William D. Polley VT-WI-IL-CO

Looking for parents of William D. Polley, born about 1829 VT(?), married to Laura Pope 1856 Walworth Co. WI, moved to Larimer Co. CO about 1865, had a son Horatio Gates Polley who died at the age of 12. William died a widower sometime after 1900 I believe in CO.

My gggrandfather Silas H. Polley b. 1837 in Cortland Co. NY was married to Laura Pope Polly's sister, Louisa Pope Polley. They lived in Freeport, IL after the Civil War.

I can't find any information that would lead me to believe that Silas Polley (he always spelled it with an "e") and William D. Polly (he always spelled it without an "e") were brothers other than the coincidence of two Pope sisters marrying two Poll(e)ys. Perhaps they were cousins? I only know that Silas' father was named Hiram and his mother was named Salome. Can't seem to find this family together. Or find anything on William D. Polly's family.

Would love to find a connection between these two, but would settle for any information on William D. Polly's family.

Thanks for any help.

Barbara McDonald

Sharon. .I am not sure our family lines are connected. .actually this side, not the Copeland is my husband's side. .I am not sure if there are any Copeland's on his side or not, I cannot get past Mary "Polly" Emily McMahan which is Elijah Mullins wife. I have no documentation on other children, other then Mary Ann mullins who married james Cain, now after re-reading there has to be a connection. .Have you read my husband's family tree? it's called Brown Family Tree. .maybe if you look at the tree it will help clarify thing. James Cain and Mary Ann Mullins were my husbands Great Grandparents. Do you have a family tree on Ancestry.com I could look at? You can e-mail me at DBFireWife@aol.com, this would be great, hope to talk to you soon and we can surely get this figured out. .thanks . .debbie

Debbie, I think this is such a coincidence -- I was just corresponding with you about the Copeland lines. Now I just came across this old Polly posting of yours and feel there must be some connections in our research.

My ggggrandparents were Charles Mullins, son of Elijah Mullins, and Catherine Copeland, daughter of John Copeland and Mary Ann Gwinn. I have been looking for a long time for documentation that Elijah Mullin's wife was indeed Mary POLLY (and not Mary with the usual nickname,Polly.) Do you have evidence of it that you could share with me? Have you had any luck in finding her parents? I have seen other researchers' belief that Mary was the daughter of Henry Polly and Athaliah Mary Mullins. According to Cainsville and Community History, Cainsville, Missouri, 1854-1990, Elijah's daughter, Mary Ann, married James Cain. I have more information about them if you would find it useful.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sharon

He appears on censuses in other states in the household of Clark Polly, who is young enough to be his son, but that is unconfirmed.
My great grandfather was Joe also. But my greatgrandmother was Marinda Amburgy. She was also married before to another man. I know they both had children from a previous marriage. My grandmother was the only child that I know of from her marraige to grandpa Joe. From my understanding Uncle Clark and Aunt Nanny were from those marriages. Is this right? I don't remember your dad, But I loved your mom. I remember her from being a little child. I was wondering if you knew where grandpa lived in ky. My dad has passed away and I don't have to many relatives left to ask these questions. Do you know how grandpa died? I had heard he had shot himself, and I had heard he had gotten shot. I would love any information that you could remember. Grandpa had passed away before I was born. Do you have any pictures of our family that you would be willing to share? If you would like to email me direct. My email address is johnnywthompson@netzero.com. My fathers name was Douglas M. Ritchie. Thank you for replying to my posting.

I sent an email to him just now. I gave him your email - hope you don't mind - he lives in Texas and I am in VIrginia so it is best if he talks with you directly. Be on the look out for his response. Hopefully he can find it easily. He just moved or is in the process of moving.
The bible had so many names in it, and was so old. Hopefully he'll give it to you for the price he got it for! He is a very thoughtful person.... pray hard none the less!! Smile.
Family history is meant for families to have..... that is why I just could not let the bible just sit there with all that valuable information in it and in the families' handwriting!!
Blessings, Pamela

PS Interesting that the bible says Havey (not Harvey) twice yet you wrote Harvey. It would be intersting to see the original again. If he does not offer the bible to you, ask him to scan the pages of names...... He should be able to do that, I believe he has a scanner. Good luck.

Donna;
I am researching a Oliver Polly. I found he was the son of James M., and James is the son James Clark., and as far as I can figure his father was Joseph Polly. With James middle name being Clark I'll bet there is a connection. I just got started on this line so I don't know all that much. Oliver Polly has to have some connection with my Fleener line as he is buried at the same cemetery as the Fleener's and they are neighbors in many of the Census. I don't know whether this clue will help you very much or not. But if you run across an Oliver would appreciate hearing from you. Barbara

Oh, do I know about moving. Seems like I am always moving. Last October I moved from Fl. to the coast of Or. I didn't like the weather so moved back to Fl. with the hurricanes. Yes, the name is spelled Harvey Polly. Thanks again for writing to me. Anilta

Darlene: I would like to e-talk with you about the Polly family. I can go back only 2 more generations with the Polly surname, but Emily Pollys' grandmother's lineage goes back quite a bit.
- Christine in Pickering, Ontario
