Ponder of SC Mystery--Please help!
I have a bit of a mystery here. There was a Ponder family listed in the 1850 Greenville SC census apparently the indexes list Nancy John Sarah Jenny and Maria as Stanfords but I believe they are Ponders:
HH390 Sarah Ponder 48 F (value of RE owned)500 b. SC
Elizabeth Stanford 80 F b. SC listed as Insane
Nancy age 22
John age 20
Sarah age 18
Jenny age 18
Maria age 3
They lived next door to Claiborne Trammel's family and William Lynch's family.
In the 1860 census in Greenville Mariah was listed as a Ponder:
HH902 Sarah Ponder age 56 F Weaver $400; cannot read/write
Mariah " age 15 F; Weaver; SC
They 'disappear' from the 1870 census.
Another researcher sent me these tidbits:
Notice in paper: Sarah w/o Jeremiah Ponder in Union Co Ga trader in business of weaving, spinning and cakebaking. May 1846. [Intention of doing business in SC]
Milton Ponder 1849 July 4. Is this the Morgan Ponder?
Does anyone have any info about this family??
