I have a copy of The Prendergasts 1169-1969 written by Caroline Mattingly Prendergast and a copy of her supplement: More About the Prendergasts published in 1972. I am not related to the Prendergasts. Is anyone interested?

Dr. William Christopher Dowling PRENDERGAST - Hanley and Falmouth, England

I am looking for information on a relative, William Christopher Dowling PRENDERGAST, who lived in Hanley, Staffordshire, England in the late 1800's and early 1900's. He was the son of John and Julianne (Dowling) PRENDERGAST.

He was a medical doctor in Hanley and spent much of his life researching the effects of lead on the life span of people working in the pottery industry including a 1898 book, "The Potter and Lead Poisoning".

He was married to Marie V. ARNOUX and they had 2 sons, John and Maurice. Marie died in 1923 and then he married Sarah E. BROWN in 1927. After his retirement, he moved from Hanley to Falmouth, Cornwall, England where he lived until his death on March 12,1933.

I would very much appreciate any information on Dr. Prendergast or members of his family. I am glad to share other information that I have on the PRENDERGAST family.

Prendergast in Galway

Has any one information about Prendergasts in Galway in the nineteenth century. There are very few Prendergasts in Australia whose ancestors came from Galway. My ancestor is Henry Prendergast (his wife was Mary Costello) and he gave his address as Tuam, Galway. He arrived in South Australia in 1852. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has ancestors In Galway.

James Prendergast from Ireland

Hi! I have family from Ireland that I am having problems tracking down! My James Prendergast was born around in 1840 in Ireland. He married a Mary who was born around 1841. They had four children, who were born around the world.

Mary Ann was born around 1864 in South Africa.
Helena was born around 1869 in St Helena
Sarah was born around 1873 in the East Indies
Michael was born around 1881 in Leeds, Yorkshire

James and Mary are my great, great, great grandparents. It looks as though James must have been in the Navy or something to have travelled with his family so much. His census of 1881 has him down as a Pensioner +Lab (Genrl) (whatever that means!) In 1881 they lived at 13 Hound street in Leeds, Yorkshire, and James was 41.

I would love to find out more about my Irish heritage.

If anyone can tell me more or has some possible matches I would love to hear from them.

PRENDERGAST Family - County Limerick

I am trying to find information about some of my Prendergast relatives who lived in County Limerick. John Prendergast (1829-1897) was married to Julianne (Julia Anne) DOWLING. John, a native of County Waterford, was the son of John Prendergast and Mary LYONS. Julianne was the daughter of Christopher and Theresa DOWLING. John was a career military man who spent time on the Island of St. Helena, Island of Malta, and in New Zealand.

After his overseas service, John and his family returned to Ireland and settled in County Limerick. Julianne died in 1894 and John died in 1897 at Dromore Castle. John was a friend of the 3rd Earl of Limerick who allowed John to live at Dromore Castle the last few years of his life.

John and Julianne were the parents of 6 children who lived to adulthood.

1) John Thomas Prendergast - He was living in Limerick City in 1897 per obituary of father

2) Marie "Minnie" Prendergast - She became a Nun and took the name Sister St. Patrick and served with a "Sisters of the Infant Jesus" community in the East Indies (now Malaysia)

3) William Christopher Dowling Prendergast - He married Marie Valentine ARNOUX. He became a medical doctor and lived in Hanley, Staffordshire, England. He spent much of his life researching the effects of lead on the life span of people working in the pottery industry.

4) Katherine Prendergast - She married Michael "Ned" Enright and lived at Russell Cottage, Pallaskenry in County Limerick.

5) James Joseph Prendergast - He married Mary Anne KINSELLA and lived in Liverpool, England. He was a captain of the steamship "SS Ardeola" which made regular trips of mail and passengers between Liverpool and the Canary Islands.

6) Walter Prendergast - He was born 1871 in County Tipperary after the family's return to Ireland. He became a dentist and spent some time in Australia.

I would like to exchange additional information with anyone who hass details of any of the above individuals.

my aunt is doing a book on our family history we have pictures of ardifniane castle on the river suir. we are told that our family name came from De Prendergast, Prendergast and Pendgraft as we go by. we have information on the first generation as james de Prendergast who was born in northern mayo, ireland. my husband will be travling to Ireland to Cork? and we were hopeful that we may get some information while he is on his business trip. we live in Minnesota. Looking for information for family history & finding living relatives of CATHERINE PRENDERGAST, born 1820's, married Great-grandfather Mathew O'Keane (Keane, Kane, Cain, etc.) in Accony & Roonah Point regions, between Louisburgh & Clare Island of County Mayo, Ireland. Mathew's family origins unknown. A son, George, was said to have been left behind with Prendergast parents when Catherine & Mathew left for America in May/June of 1848. George was said to have joined army & killed in Crimean War. James Prendergast, a nephew or cousin of Catherine's came to America a generation later to marry a widowed daughter (Mary Jane) of Catherine and Mathew. Catherine & Mathew were teachers (?). Still living in same region in Ireland, Margaret (Gibbons) Scott, her son, Tommie, and other Scott children are distant cousins since, Richard Scott, deceased husband of Margaret, was said to have been great-grandson of Catherine's sister.

Prendergast in Spain

While researching my ancestry in Spain, I found a marriage in Mondragon, Guipuzcoa, Spain in September 1771 between Miguel de Prendergast and Josefa de Bolinaga y Lapaza Cortazar. The Priest who performed the marriage recorded Miguel’s parents as Thomas and Cathlina de Prendergast. He listed the Prendergasts as being from “Clementent, Yrlanda, Obispo de Boutea” and resident in Mondragon.

There is a family legend that an ancestor who was in the Spanish Armada and washed up on the beach in Ireland after his ship was sunk, married an Irish women, brought her to Spain and that there were subsequent marriages between our two families over the succeeding years.

Any information on the Prendergast family in Spain and where Clementent and Boutea are would be appreciated. Thank you.

Elizabeth Prendergast

I am looking for any information on Elizabeth Prendergast. I have that she was born in Ireland in 1810 and died in Indiana in 1880. She and her husband (Michael Nolan) are buried in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in LaGro Indiana. I have no information about her parents, or possible siblings.

Prendergast, Jennings in Claremorris area

Unable to find anything else on my gr gr grandfather, Anthony Jennings, born circa 1827. He married my gr gr grandmother, Mary Noone at St. Colmans in Claremorris on 27 Jan 1861. The witnesses were, Michael Prendergast and Margaret Connelly. St. Colmans has a baptism record for a Michael Prendergast, son of Pat Prendergast and Sibby Jennings on 15 Oct 1839. Perhaps Anthony Jennings and Michael Prendergast were cousins. I have eliminated most of the eight Anthony Jennings that are in Griffiths Valuation. The one on Bridge Street in Claremorris could be him. Anthony and Mary Jennings emigrated soon after marrying and settled in Weston, Massachusetts, USA. I'm hoping someone researching the Prendergast name with a Jennings connection might uncover some clues.

Prendergasts from Wexford, 1790's

Thomas Prendergast came from Sutton's Parish,
Wexford and immigrated to Cape Broyle,
Newfoundland. He married Mary Keefe from
Newfoundland in 1793. There were also a
William and James Prendergast living in
Cape Broyle at the same time. So they may
have been brothers?? of Thomas. Any

Prendergast/Killeen/McAndrew

My ggggrandfather was Thomas Prendergast of County Mayo Ireland. He married Bridget Killeen February 1822. They had four sons, Thomas, James, John and Patrick. And at least two daughters. Thomas and Bridget were married in the Diocese of Taum. I have extensive lineage from these two to current and am missing Thomas' father to connect this line back to the 1100's and further back. My grandmother was a Prendergast who married McAndrew in USA in 1929. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Willing to share all info I have. Thank you to everyone.

I am researching the family and descendants of John PRENDERGAST and Mary LYONS, both natives of County Waterford, Ireland. John died in County Waterford in 1857. Mary came to the United States with some of her children about 1870. She died in 1896 in Bureau County, IL.

John and Mary had 8 known children: John, William, Catherine, Jeremiah, Thomas F., Ellen, Mary and Dennis. All of the children, except for the eldest son John, eventually ended up in the U.S.

Based on my research to date, listed below are the known descendants of John and Mary. I would like to make contact with other Prendergast descendants to share information and compare notes on our common ancestry.

I'm looking for more information on the family of Margaret Prendergast who was born in 1850 and died on August 8 1928. She was married to John Beville (could possibly be Belville). She was born in the Fourth ward of Manhattan and was a resident of Brooklyn for twenty-five years. She had five daughters: Catherine (who married Reuben Springsteen), Susan (who never married--but had a daughter named Jennie), Frances (who married ??? Leavens), ??? (who married George Dugan), and ??? (who married Alexander Bell).
She had two siblings that I know of: Catherine and John Prendergast. She had fourteen grandchildren (only know the names of 10--5 are Catherine's children, 1 is Susan's, and 4 are Frances'). She was a member of the R.C .Church of the Holy Rosary. If you have any more info on Margaret or her family email me. I would love to compare notes. Searching for other living children or Grandchildren of Richard Prendergast and his wife Sarah Ward. The two had 3 or 4 boys youngest was Edmond birth date 1/9/1912, there might also have been a son named Anthony. Sarah died between 1912 & 1920. Edmond went into the service in 1936. They lived on Dante Ave in Chicago, Edmond worked at S. Shore Country Club before going into the service. Edmond was my Grandfather he left Chicago in 1936 and never returned. I am searching for any living descendants of the above subject who was born in Tamil Nadu Province in India on September 1 1855, daughter of Hew Lindsay Pendergast (or Prendergast), General in the Royal Engineers. She married Colonel Owen Vidal Boddy RE whom she later divorced, later marrying again to Robert Sewell of the Madras Civil Service (born 1846) on 27 February 1906. She was my great grandmother on my father's side. Date of her death is unknown. Her brother William Henry Pendergast (Prendergast) was born in 1865 and was buried in Dorset in October 1910.

His father was Tom Prendergast (b 1842 in Charlottestown, Prince Edward Island), married to Catherine Stapleton (b Aug 1848 in St Johns Newfoundland).

Searching for decendants of Richard Prendergast & Sarah Ward Prendergast. They lived in Chicago, ILL in the early 1900's, had 4 boys with the last born in 1912 Edmund Francis Prendergast. I believe Sarah died around 1920. One boy was named Anthony. Edmund had very little contact with his family during his adult years although his daughter does remember receiving gifts from an uncle as a child. I would appreciate any help in finding living relatives of this family. Richard would be my great grandfather.

I am currently attempting to locate information on a Patrick and Lucy Prendergast, who were listed in the 1891 England Census of Didmarton Gloucerstershire. They had a son, Oscar Prendergast and a daughter, Margaret 'Inez(?)' Prendergast.

At sometime Oscar Prendergast moved to the United States and changed his name to Jeffery DePrend. I am told Inez was a nun.

I'm looking for Philipp Baier's (Beyer) family.Philipp Baier Married Catherine (the last name I have is Adams) they lived at 337 Sycamore, Buffalo, NY. They came from Philippsburg or Kusel Germany.
Children: Adam, Jack (maybe John or Joseph or Jacob) and Philipp. The family came to US in 1853 and settled in Buffalo with an uncle who spelled his name Beyer.
Adam changed the spelling of Baier to Beyer and moved to St. Paul, Minn. in about 1869. He married Wilhelmina Graupmann in 1874.
Children of Adam (died 1918) and Minnie (died 1924): Adam Carl, Martha, William Bartlett, Walter, Theodore, Herbert and Wilhelmina. Martha and William died young of scarlet fever.
Jack was supposed to have been in the Chicago area around the time of the Great Fire. that's all I have on him.
Philipp married and raised a family. The names I have connected with Philipp are: Philipp Baier, Alfred Baier, Fredrick Baier, Mildred Zemke, Helen Zavodny and Ann Baier who died in 1986 at the age of 95.

She was a life-long San Diego resident, growing up in Ocean Beach during the Depression. Gwen graduated from Point Loma High School and studied at San Diego State University, the La Jolla School of Art, and the Coronado School of art. She was listed in the World Who ' s Who of Women, Cambridge, England, and was a member of the La Jolla Chapter of the National League of American Pen Women. Gwen was a sculptor, commercial artist, portrait painter, photographer, and educator. She was involved with restoration work on several buildings in Balboa park, and painted portraits for the Diocese of San Diego, Calif. Medical Association, and numerous individuals. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert; two sons, Stephen and Michael; three granddaughters; brothers Howard and Kenneth; sister Jennifer; one niece and two nephews; two grandnieces; and five grandnephews. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, April 4, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Loma Portal. Seeking info. for Ellen PENDERGAST (PRENDERGAST) WALDRON and Thomas WALDRON. Six children, Richard, Patrick, Thomas, 3 daughters, names unknown. Richard, Patrick and Thomas emigrated to USA in early 1880s; family myth states Thomas later returned to Ireland.

Their son, Richard Joseph WALDRON, b.3 April <1862>, in Ireland (Dublin????). Richard WALDRON listed in 1881 UK Census living with Francis PRENDERGAST (b. in Ireland) and his wife, Celia (b. England), in Birmingham, Warwickshire. Presumably a maternal cousin.
Immigrated to USA around 1883 (through Boston???) and lived in New York City. He married Ellen WALSH around 1893. Their only child, Annie Virginia (aka Virginia Anne) was born in March, 1899. He died in 1928 in Wichita Falls, TX while visiting his daughter; body returned to New York for burial.

Martina's family included the following siblings:

Maybelle (Mamie) and Catherine.

Maybelle may have had at least 3 children. Mary Anne, Evelyn and John (possibly John S.) who was married to Stella.

My grandmother was a Prendergast from Ballycattoo, Churchtown South, Cloyne, Co. Cork, Ireland.
About 10 years ago a couple from the USA arrived in Churchtown South making enquires about Prendergasts. They only spoke to the resident RC parish priest who was new to the area. He simply said that there was no one of that name in the area & they went away disappointed. However a few days later the PP spoke to a local man & mentioned his visitors.Though the name Prendergast has died out in the area there are two families of the female line. The Kennefick's of Maytown & my family the O'Neill's of Aghada.

Florence has a son named Clinton Coddington of Waterbury, CT.

Edward L. Wildman Sr. (b. 02/02/1919 Bridgeport, CT, Ss#: 042-18-1312) married Frances (Oberstadt) Wildman, their children are: Edward L. Wildman Jr., of Southbury, William R. Wildman Sr., of Waterbury; and Marjorie Wildman Mitchell of Southbury, CT. Edward Sr. was a former member of the Danbury Elks.

I believe my grandfather, Donald Wildman, is living in FL. He married Mary Prendergast of Springfield, MA. They later divorced and he remarried.

I have been told Starr Wildman is of American Indian ancestry. I'm not sure what tribe. Another family name mentioned is Tongue.

PS- family legend says our Prendergast relative came over from Ireland via boat. The story goes that his family wanted him to be a priest back in Ireland but he did not want to. He stowed away on a boat bound for the USA. There was an accident, the boat sank and this relative of ours took the name Prendergast from a passenger who had died in the accident. Sounds very dramatic! LOL Anyone else ever hear this tall tale?
