Hugh B Provine

My grandfather is Hugh B Provine, born in 1912 (I think in MS) died in Memphis TN 1986. He married Dorothy (don't know her maiden name) and this is not the movie star, Dorothy Provine, though she is my 2nd cousin.

Given that Hugh is not a common name, I am thinking that I may be related to John Calhoun Provine who has descendants, Hugh Provine and Hugh W Provine. There is also an Isabella Provine in his line and my mother's name is Dorothy Isabella Provine, first born of Hugh and Dorothy (above).

Let me know if you know anything more - I can drill down this line down to cousins and great nieces, nephews.

Thank you.
Cindy

Death of Dr. Provine of Viola, Oklahoma

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 19 November 1903, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

DEATH OF DR. PROVINE

Dr. C. A. Provine, of Viola, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed men in this section of the Indian Territory, died at 3 o’clock last Saturday morning at the home of his brother-in-law, J. G. Attaway, in this city.

He returned Wednesday morning from a visit to Texas where he had been sick for eight days, and on account of the cold was unable to go out to his home at Viola, so he went to the home of Mr. Attaway. Here he was very unwell, but his condition was not considered serious, and his wife was not sent for until late Friday evening. However he grew worse, steadily, and at three o’clock Saturday morning he passed away peacefully. Dr. Provine was sixty-eight years of age and had for many years been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church.

Dr. Provine had lived at Viola for many years and he was not only one of the foremost men of his home community but was known and highly esteemed by the people of this entire section. He was a man of sound judgment and of rare attainments, and his death brings sorrow to his neighbors and many friends with whom he so long associated.

The remains were buried at Wells Valley Cemetery Sunday evening, the funeral being conducted by Rev. R. F. Kirkpatrick of the Presbyterian church.
Sam Provine, Paris, Texas

I am researching the murder of a policeman in Paris, Texas in 1874. An area newspaper reported one of the accomplices as "Sam Provine". He may have been released due to lack of evidence or other reasons. There were Provines living in the area that were prominent, respectable citizens. Sam Provine may have been an underage witness rather than a participant.

Would like to know if anyone has any information.

I'm looking for any information on a Loring Provine and his family. I have an old photo from about 1911 of a bunch of Provine relatives at a picnic, and he and his son Loring (who I believe died about 1914 at about age 10) are in it. I know all the others in the photo and where they fit on the family tree, but have no information on Loring, his birth, death, parents, siblings, marriage, children, etc. Any information would be appreciated.

Provine family of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas

Searching for any info on the Provine family that once resided in the Meadowbrook section of Fort Worth. I have found in the 1900-1930 Tarrant County, Texas census an Edward Provine (b Nov 1851 in Tennessee) with wife Lillie J., son Edward Provine Jr., and dau Elizabeth. It is my belief that they are related to the Provine family that resided in the Meadowbrook area but I have little to go off of beyond 1930. A street was also named after the Provine family (Provine Street) which is directly in the heart of the Meadowbrook area. I have also connected the above mentioned Provine family members to the Proviance and De Proviance family which originated in France and Ireland. I am attempting to identify the Fort Worth families that the Provine street is named after.
Send replies to Mark Peterson at: mpeterson2200@sbcglobal.net
