From
Rob Hoch,
President,White
Plains Historical Society:
"I am happy to report that the first of many headstone restorations took place this past October. After identifying 2 headstones greatly at risk of imminent damage, the White
Plains Historical Society, with the permission of almost 3 dozen descendants of Jonathan
Purdy, engaged the services of professional stone sculptor/restorer Robert
Neal Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter performed extensive work in stabilizing the red sandstone headstones of
Issac Purdy (1732-1816) and Isaac
Sniffen (1733-1816). This year's frost would likely have destroyed both of these magnificent grave stones. With your strength and support, the White
Plains Historical Society was able to begin this long journey after almost 40 years of resistance from the property owner. Please enjoy the first fruits of your commitment to this project."
I also have a photo of the Isaac
Purdy gravestone, email me at
