Daniel in NS

goblu  (View posts) Posted: 12 Feb 2000 4:46AM GMT
Since Yarmouth is close to Digby, perhaps we have some common ancestors....
Daniel Purdy married Mary Jane Burns in 1792 in Digby, NS, they had 4 chldren: Henry 1793, Obadiah 1797, Lavinia, married Stephen Elliott Mary, married _____Taylor.
I have reason to believe that Daniel was a Loyalist, arriving in NS around 1783/4. I am searching for the parents and birthplaces of Daniel and Mary Jane.
Daniel died sometime between 1847 and June, 1849, I am also searching for his burial site.

Elmer Bruce Purdy, Shelburne  (View posts) Posted: 14 Feb 2000 8:01PM GMT
My father was born in Shelburne N.S. on April 10, 1911. He had 6 brothers and sisters. Two sisters are still alive. His father was John Frederick Purdy and his mother was Catherine Acker Purdy and later she married again (d'Entremont). I understand I have a lot of cousins around Shelburne and Halifax.. My aunt lives in Sydney Mines and my other aunt lives in Newfoundland. I have more info if you want to know what I have. I live in Texas now, but we moved here from Boston, Mass when I was a teenager.

My Dad's siblings were Ansel, Doris, Hazel, Violet, Goldie and Arlie, Dad was Elmer. Goldie and Doris are still alive. They were all born between 1909 and 1920, I believe. They were raised in Shelburne and my Dad and Violet moved to Boston Massachusetts when they were in their teens. Their father died in 1928 from TB or cancer. My grandmother died in 1973 I believe. I would love to hear from anyone with any info. My name is Carol Helen Purdy Johnson

I am looking for info. on my grandmother Florence Purdy Black and her sister Elaine Purdy. They came from Canada. Both where born around 1900 to 1915. Do you have any match? Also is there any native bood in the Purdy family? My grandmother would not talk about her family in Canada and my grantant elaine said that the reason was because there is native american bood in the Purdy family.

Purdys of Nova Scotia

DianeSibley42  (View posts) Posted: 16 May 2000 4:18PM GMT
Of the Purdy brothers who came to Nova Scotia in the late 1700s in my family, Gilbert was born ca 1750 and settled at Malagash, Cumb. Co., Henry was born about 1745 and settled at Fort Lawrence, Gabriel was born 1755 and established the Purdy homestead at Westchester, Cumb. Co., N.S. They left siblings back in White Plains, New York State, but many of today's Purdys are related to them. Just putting in my two cents' worth as a descendant of Gabriel.
