ect. Michial Purtell ans His wife Elizabeth
(Kent)settled in Michigan, Washtenaw Co.,
Northfeild Twp. in 1829. He was one of 15
families who built the first english speeking
Roman Catholic log church in the state of
Michigan. the name of the current chrurch
is St.Patrick's. Michael Purtell came from
Limerick, Ireland. He had several children
one of whom ,Patrick Purtell started the
first Temperance and Bovolent Socity and
wrot and produced a play called "Whisky
Deamond" he was colleged educated and
taught in the Ann Arbor Schools he was also
a township superintendant.
