I don't know for sure that they are related, but my Lawrence and John Purtell (brothers) also were in Binghamton at that time frame. More importantly is the fact that you are only a few miles from me. I live in Harley Ont. just north of LaSallette. Most of our ancesters from the LaSallette area and some still reside there. Would really like know if anyone knows of the Schooley family, we have Mortimer, son William, son Joseph, son Joseph, son Earl ( my husband ) so far. Could use more info if available. We have Purtells, Kelly, Donahue, McNamara, McCaully and many more from the LaSallette area.
Thanks in advance, would be nice to talk to you.
Karen Schooley

I am trying to trace any decendants of my GGUncle John Henry Purtell 1837-1875. He was a Corporal in the 97th Regiment and served in the Crimea and the Indian Mutiny. He was married to Elizabeth Ladd 1844-1874.

Their children were:

John Henry b.1862 at Jubbulpore Hindustan, India.

William b.1869 d.December 6, 1876 at Hospital for hip disease. 18 Queen Square. Bloomsbury.

Robert W. b.1870 at Dover

Sarah Elizabeth b.1872 at Mullingar, Westmeath, Ireland.

James A. b.1872 at Colchester Barracks.

I believe from reading his letters that there may have been another daughter, Dorothy.

By the 1881 Census the only child I can find is John Henry who was on H.M.S Druid.

Any information will be gratefully recieved.

Steve Bidmead
Hi, I noticed your Shanagolden connection....I'm not aware of any Purtell's in my line, however, my ancestors (John and Margaret Dunne) emigrated from Shanagolden Parish, County Limerick, to Binghamton, New York, about the same time as your ancestors - 1850. Have you found any other Shanagolden families who may have emigrated to the Binghamton area?

Stacey
