I have just come across your message; its a long time ago that you posted it, and I dont't know whether its still relevant, but this may possibly be a clue :
My great great uncle was a Thomas Quin, who was born in Islington (London) in 1845. He married a Scottish girl when stationed with the Royal Engineers in Maryhill Glasgow. The family lived much of their life in Glasgow. He had a number of children ,all of whom I have accounted for bar one; named Thomas. Thomas was born in 1885 in Islington, and at the time of the 1901 census was living with Thomas senior at 119 New City road Glasgow. All I can establish subsequently of Thomas is that he still lived in Glasgow in 1936 - the address is 21 Kingsacre Road.
If this is of interest, pl respond and I can send more information on the rest of the family
