It's true. John Quincy Adams grandmother was a Quincy and John Hancock's second marriage was to a Dorothy Quincy. I have a copy of Quincy family tree that my grandmother had. The original is either at the Quincy Historical Society in Quincy, MA, or at the Newbury Library in Chicago, IL. I know that's where my grandmother did a lot of her research.
If this is true it will all link to John Quincy Adams and John Hancock. Has anyone been able to verify this?

Thanks for any help that you can give!!!!

Sick children were often "dipped," and a cure for rickets advocated in 1769 included a daily head soaking in cold water, followed by a rest in the cradle dripping wet and a dose of water, rum, snakewood, and saffron."

I am not related to Josiah.
Benjamin Quincy parentage

To Tina Wright: In the pamphlet, "Descendants of Edmund Quincy 1602-1637..." compiled by H. Hobart Holly, Historian, Quincy Historical Society, 8 Adams St, Quincy, MA 02169, 1977, p.14, it lists Benjamin Quincy (son of Edmund (1733-68), son of Josiah(1710-1784), son of Edmund(1681-1737), son of Edmund(1627-1697), son of Edmund(1602-1647), the settler: "no records, existence is doubtful." On p9 under his presumed father: "Edmund Quincy born 1733 at Braintree MA, died May 30,1768 at sea on a voyage to the West Indies; marriage intention Nov.30, 1767 at Boston to Rebecca Lloyd, daughter of John and Sarah Lloyd of Stamford CT who was born Jan2, 1745. He graduated from Harvard 1752 and was a merchant in Boston. Child of Edmund and Rebecca: Benjamin (so, born 1768?)In memoirs of the Quincy family, Eliza Susan Quincy states that they were engaged but the wedding was delayed because of his poor health."(This suggests that Benjamin may have been illegitimate because his father died at sea before his parents could get married.) Note that the Lloyds lived in Stamford CT, not far from Dutchess Co. NY) The supplement No.l, lists another Benjamin Quincy of Warwick, MA aged 24 in 1777 when he enlisted; married 1779 to Sarah Dorr: daughter Nancy 1780; son Edmund born 1782. His parentage unknown.

I am also searching for Benjamin Quincy and Sarah Hammond. Some believe that Benjamin's father and mother were on a ship and were going to be married when they landed and he died at sea and Rebecca (mother) had Benjamin after they landed. So I believe this is why it is so hard to find the parents of Benjamin. I have Edmund Quincy and Rebecca Lloyd as his parents and trying to find concrete proof of this information.
Eva Smith

I don't show this Benjamin Quincy. The Quincy Historical Society in Quincy, MA, has put out a booklet with two addendums that show a good portion of the Quincy family tree. I have a copy of the original booklet but not the two addendums. It's possible that he is listed in one of the two addendums. I am attempting to get copies of these two addendums. I will let you know what I find out.

Benjamin Quincy and Sallie Hammond are my
grgrgr grandparents. And I think the Ne is for
New york according to my records.
They had 5 children and they are according to
first born: Hannah, Anna, Abigail, John, and
Polly. I have a little information on John and
Hannah and that is all. I would like to know who
their parents are. Would be glad to send other
information.
Carolyn

The Polly Quincy you are looking for could be
the one I have but I am not certain as I have
Polly married to Horatio Hartshorn but I am not sure
about too many of the other details. I have her
parents as Benjamin Quincy and Sally Hammond.
Hope to hear back from you.

Anna Quincy married my ancestor, Sanford Harvey. Do you have any additional information on Sanford Harvey? You probably have everything that I have on the Quincy family. We can't seem to find Benjamin's or Sally Hammon/Hammond's parentage. Would appreciate your help.

I am looking for info. on Polly Quincy b. 1806 Boston. Does this sound like the Polly you know about? My Polly married Thomas Hartshorn , b. 1802 in Boston, that is all I know of them. I am descended from their son, Horace Hartshorn b. 1828 Erie, PA. Thanks, Noelle
