I am trying to research the Reel side of my family but have been unsuccessful. If anyone has anything that they could share with me that would be greatly appriacated. If you need more information about the people below, please ask. However, most of the information I have came from my grandmother before she passed away. I can not verify everything but have been told by an aunt that it has been.

1. Eliza Reel (I'm not sure what her maiden name is. She is listed on William McClellan death cert as Eliza Reel)
2. William McClellan Reel Feb 5, 1861 to Oct 7 1954
3. Charles Edward Reel March 9 1899 to March 31, 1962
4. Mary Catherine Reel March 10, 1941 to Dec 28 1999 (This is my grandmother.

Searching For a Book on the NC Reels.

About a year ago I came across information for ordering a book on the Reel family in North Carolina; Cravin and Reelsboro and also surrounding areas. Aparently a lady there, (of course a Reel,) has put together the entire family line together with local history into a book that has to be ordered directly from her. I have since lost the address and am wondering if anyone has heard of this or has the information I am looking for.

George was married to a Rachel Davis and had 4 kids that lived in the Indianapolis area. My father came to Southern Nevada and married by mother Marion Dotson. I had 1 younger brother. My grandmother was Ollie Reel Johnson. Born July 1898, daughter of Mitchell & Mary Reel. She was the youngest of the family. Brother and sisters were Charlie, Lily,& Hazel
Ollie married Robert Lee Johnson and had a son named George Jack Johnson. This is my father. George also had a previous marriage to a Rachel Davis and had 4 children.
Ollie was in the Noblesville resthome for years. Would like to make some contacts.

I have an original 8”x10” photograph of “Five sons of John and Amanda Reel – George, Daniel, William, John and Henry”, taken “in 1900”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Loveland (Pottawattamie Co.) IA, and each of them looks to be in their 20s and 30s.

I found the family of John A. and Amanda A. Reel in 1870 and 1880, in St. Johns (Harrison Co.) IA. 1870 showed John H. with approx. YOB of 1860. 1900 censuses showed dates of birth as: Henry M. (Dec 1862), William L. (Mar 1870), George D. (Dec 1871) and Daniel (Apr 1874).

I am looking for information on Isaiah Reel born Oct 1831 in Trumbull Co Ohio. He married Rebecca Crismore born about
March 1834 in Indiana. She is the daughter of Henry & Jane
Crismore. Isaiah moved to Wells Co, Jefferson Twp. Indiana between 1860 and 1880. They married on 5 Feb 1871. LDS has the marriage dated 20 Jan 1889.. they are living together in 1880 so I think this is wrong. They had two children but I don't know who they were.
LDS has his information on CD but I don't think it is correct.

Hi everyone, Now we know that Wesley Charles Reels, father
was Anthony Reel-Real. We know he was born in Ohio or
Indiana, We know he lived and died in the Gas City, Madison
County Area and Rush too. I know that his father was born
in Penn. I still need help finding Anthony's parents.
One thing we found is that he and his younger sister Mary
were living with older sister Rebecca A. Reel Moore.
Rebecca was married to a Moore and when he died young
James Reeder was the settler of the estate. Well I know
that James Reeder and James Reeder JR. came from
The group of Reels, Reals, and Reeders that migrated together, from VA, Penn than to Ohio and than Indiana!
These family's married the Reals and Reeders. They
lived near eachother and farmed together.
We know this, this Reel line was the Nicholas and Solomon
line, Anthony was born around 1830, so the Reels and Readers were in Penn. in 1800, by 1810-1820 in Ohio,
from census reports, than by 1830 is Rush.
Can anyone help me find who Anthony and Rebecca Reels
family were? Many have searched and not had much luck
in this. Thanks for any help!!

David M Reel married Emma ? they had a son George who died at age 13 in 1898. Newspaper obit states:
George Reel, son of Mr and Mrs David M Reel of New York city, is dead, aged 13 years. The family formerly resided at Elmore, and Mrs Reel is a niece of Wm. Poorman of Scott twonship, this county. The body will arrive in Fremont at 1 P.M. to-day and will be at once taken to Oak Wood cemetery for interment.
the county referred to is Sandusky Co. Ohio.
David's obit reads:
David Reel Formerly of This Vicinity died in New York State.
The body of David M Reel, 76, arrived in Fremont at 4:05 P. M. Monday and was interred in Oakwood cemetery Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Reel was a former resident of Rising Sun and menbers of his family have been buried in Oakwood.
Mr. Reel died in his home, Oueensboro, NY at 6 a.m. Friday, following a lingering illness of chronic nephritis.
Funeral services were held in the home after which the body was shipped to Fremont. Tschumy Brothers took charge of the arrangements here and conducted the burial. There were no sevices at the grave.

Seeking info about family listed in 1850 census, Pike Co. Illinois. Head of family was M.A.L. Reel (52). There are five other Reels listed including Rezin Reel (33). Also living in this family were Mary L. Mallory (27) and her son Charles H. Mallory (3). Between 1850-60 Rezin married Mary L. Mallory. I believe Mary was my GG-grandmother. Hi Kathy, I have been reading your posts, I really feel that
these people are connected to Anthony and Rebecca and
Mary Reel from Madison County, Indiana census 1850
Anthony and Mary seemed to be orphaned, living with
older sister Rebecca A. Reel Moore.
We just don't know who the parents are. We know father
born Penn. and mother Ohio.
why I think they are connected to Solomon and Nicholas
is because James Reeder was on the probate, when
Mr. Moore died, husband of Rebecca. I know there has
to be a connection. They knew eachother! There was a
James Reeder Jr. which I felt might be more like it.
I am from the Anthony line, Anthony, Wesley Charles,
Everret. all of Gas City, Indiana, My father who passed
a few years ago, was born in Ohio. Wesley sometimes
was listed in Census as Real.
Any help would greatly be appriciated!

Reel/Ruhl name change in PA

I'm researching Reel in Dauphin/York/Northampton PA and have traced back to my 6th ggrandfather Anthony Reel (possibly Johan Anton Reel or Ruhl). I'm trying to determine from which Reel/Ruhl from Germany I am descended and I find the name change confusing. Some transcribers have written it as Ruhl while others have done the translating into the Americanized version, Reel. I therefore have entries for both, for example: Johannes Reel as well as Johannes Ruhl, coming on the same ship on the same day. Both names DO NOT appear on the same manifest, just the name differs as though different transcribers have interpreted it differently for various sources. (That sounds confusing - I hope I explained it well.) Anyway, if anyone can see me out of my confusion it would be appreciated. Thanks so much. Lauren McInally

I'm looking for fellow researchers of Daniel Reel born 1815 in PA moved to Wayne co, Ohio by 1840 and on to Jackson co, Iowa by 1860. "James Reel age 21 married Martha Hogbin age 27 on May 29, 1873 by Rev. John Johnson at Jacob Reel’s Grant County. Parents: Rebecca Reel, Ann Hogbin."
I'm trying to find more on this Martha Hogbin and her mother Ann.

Daniel REEL son of Peter REEL

I have been abstracting the succession (probate) records for our journal. Daniel REEL died here (Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana) probably in August 1843. He was not married. The Louisiana inheritance laws of that time say in the case of an unmarried person, the estate goes back to the parents, if they are not living then in goes to the siblings, divided equally. This probate says Daniel was the son of Peter REEL, who died about 30 years [1813] ago in Berkeley County, Virginia. Peter's wife died about 3 or 4 years later. This probate names the brothers and sisters and where they are living. If anyone is interested, I will be glad to send an abstract of the probate.

Just beginning to work on this line of my family. In my mother's belongings, we found bits and pieces of paperwork where she must have began a search. I have the following:

Daniel Reel, 1775-1842, married Barbara ?
Children: Henry Reel, 1805-ca 1842, married unknown. Unity Reel, 1809-? married Redin Mason. James Reel 1813-___, married Mary ?

Then on another piece of paper she had Elizabeth Reel, 1820-1909. Married Merriweather Ussery, 1817-? Children: Susan Josephine Ussery (1842-1937), Thomas Ussery (1845), Mary Ussery (1846)

Second married to William Inch. Children: James William Inch (1852-1926), Lavinia Inch (1855-1890?), Martha Inch (1856-1919)

Susan Josephine Ussery was my great grandmother, I do know that. It comes down from Susan marrying John Joseph Roe, and their child Alvin Silliman Roe was my grandfather.

I am in contact with various members of the family, but of course I'm digging for more information. Any connections with anyone else?

June 6, 1919 - April 25, 2006

Charles Norman Reel, 86, Kokomo, died at 10:28 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hall Hospital. He was born June 6, 1919, in Kokomo, the son of Alva Reel and Minnie (Morris) Reel. On July 18, 1940, in Galveston, he married Frances F. (Wagner) Reel, who survives.

He retired from American Standard in Kokomo in 1977. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1940. A veteran of the Army, he served during World War II stationed in Samadan, Iran. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Kokomo and St. Patrick Church in Kokomo.

He was an avid chess player and Chicago Cubs fan.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia and Jerry Collin, Kokomo, and Sandra and Rick Shepard, Young America; nine grandchildren, Melissa Dennis, DeQuion, Ill., Stacey Eaker, Kokomo, Susan Woolley, Kokomo, Jennifer Reel, DeQuion, Ronnie McClory II, Rochester, Charles McClory, Young America, Ashley Rice, DeQuion, DeAnna Healy, DeQuion, Patricia Shepard, Young America; several nieces and nephews and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, John A. Reel; three brothers and two sisters.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with military honors by the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Father Randy Soto will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

Hi all.

I'm trying to find out anything about the Reel family. I don't have any dates at the moment but I do have this. My great great grandfather was Abraham Clark Reel from Indiana. His son, in my line, was Jacob Reel. Jacob's son was Commodore Jacob. Commodore's son is Jerry Melvin, my father. I've been told that Abraham and several brothers left Indiana and started for Missouri. Abraham made it but I don't know what happened to the others. I would like to find out about this side of my family but I'm not sure where to start and like I said, I don't have any dates. Thursday, 04 Apr 1895: "Mr. Benjamin S. Reel and Miss Louisa Eichelberger, both of Hancock, were married Monday evening at 7 o'clock in the parlor of the Franklin House, by Rev. Isaac H. Condit. Among those who witnessed the ceremony were Miss Mary Gilleece, who accompanied the couple here from Hancock, and Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hanna, of this city, cousins of the groom.

The bridal party returned to Hancock last night on the 8:05 train over the P. V. Railroad. The groom is a well-to-do farmer of the Hancock district. The bride is an estimable daughter of LaFayette Eichelberger. She formerly taught school in this county."

His daughter Catherine married my great great grandfather James Galbraith and they lived in Lacakwack NY in the Mid to late 1800's. James Reel lived with them as per the 1880 Census. Info I have. Adam Aronhalt married Rebecca C. Adam born about 1838 died before 1900. Found headstones in Alkire cemetery near Mt. Storm, W Va that read Adam Aronhalt age 60 yrs, died 1898. Catherine (Reall), no dates, wife of Adam. I am wondering could Rebecca C. be Rebecca Catherine Reel and the headstone be a sounds like spelling as was common at that time. Thanks Larry

Thanks to the archivist Stadtarchiv Schreisheim we have the following on this line from the "Familienbuch Schrieshiem 1650-1900":
Emigrants Johann "Peter" Riehl b 1808 and spouse Susanna Forster b 1811-they emigrated 1869 -it appears that Peter returned to Germany about 1879 and died there in 1885;Susanna stayed and appears in the 1880 Ohio census living with her son Lewis- she died in Austintown Ohio 1887.
Children of: Magdalena, Ludwig ( b 1834 called Lewis) emigrated with spouse Christina Haas), Elizabetha, Anna Maria ( b 1839 m. Andreas Hoffman, emigratedto Ohio then removed to Kansas), Susanna, Philip Peter ( b 1846 died as infant),George "Peter" b 1847-d 1900,emigrated and married Katherine Mohr b Germany 1854 daughter of Nicholas Mohr she emigrated as a child and married in Ohio d 1921-they had 12 children

Does anyone have any information on a Nora Reels. I believe that Nora is the middle name. I have an old tin type that says it was a present or presented to F.M. Reel. The name under the picture is un-readible. Could be Sh....something, or possibly even a Mi...something as the first name. Then it says Nora Reel after the first name. This woman has fancy pin curls and a bow in her hair. Also wearing a cameo on a dark neck ribbon. If you have any clues to who this might be please let me know. I have reason to believe that this "REEL" is from or has relatives in Indiana.

My Great-Grandfather was called Doc Reel and he was a Pastor in North Carolina.

Jean's mother was (d. abt 1955) Etta (Fietta) Irene Strausser from Shamokin, PA. I'm told that Sherman's father is William Sherman Reel but I cannot locate ANY informtion on him anywhere. 1974-2002

Jon D. Reel, 28, of Laramie died Dec. 12 as the result of an automoblie accident.

He was born Sept. 8, 1974, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Randy and Cathy (Watson) Reel.

He attended catholic schools in Iowa, graduating from Bishop Garrigan High School in 1993.

After his schooling, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in
Cheyenne. He completed four years of active duty before finishing his obligation in the Airguard.

Mr. Reel married Tammy Longhway on June 26, 1999, in Cheyenne. They moved to Laramie in 2001.
He was a journeyman electrician, employed with WG Dale Electric.

He enjoyed outdoor activities, including camping, hunting, snowboarding, horseback riding, scuba
diving and hiking. He loved to read and play video games with his son, Braxton. He was a loving
husband, father, son, brother and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy of Laramie; son, Braxton Reel of Cheyenne; parents, Randy and
Cathy Reel of Iowa; brothers, Thomas Reel of Minnnestoa, Michael Reel of Navy Academy; and a
sister, Sarah Reel of New York.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Darrell Reel and Charles (Pete) Watson; grandmother,
Darlene Boudreau; an aunt; and an uncle.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Heggie Family Mortuary with the Rev. Carl J.
Gallinger officiating.

Services are under the direction of Heggie Family Mortuary.

Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are.
This is here as a lasting memorial for Mr. Reel.

I need help in locating Ronald Lee Reel, originally from either Grafton, WV (Taylor county) or possibly Grant county, WV. He is a white male, 5'9", appx 140-150 lbs., brown hair, blue eyes, was married in the 1960's and had 2 sons who were born between 1962 and 1966. The last known address I have for him is in Bellaire, Ohio (1998). I believe his mother's name is/was Beatrice A. Reel, who died in Canonsburg, PA and lived in Bridgeville, PA before her death. Beatrice's date of birth is Sept 2nd, 1911, and she died on March 31st, 2000. Ronald (aka "Ronnie") was incarcerated in the Moundsville, WV prison from 1967-1969 for "breaking and entering".
