Re: Reddy / Ready/ Roddy Families from Ireland and England

Our family has been looking for a "Charles Roddy" born "near London England" c.1845 plus-or-minus 10 years. I ran across your post and started looking for the family hoping for a connection. Unfortunately, what I found in the "London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906" records were a distinct "Ready" family with father William John Ready and Mary Ann "Ready", parents of Mary Sophia "Ready" (b. 2 Apr 1818), William Wilson "Ready" (b. 13 Sep 1819), Joseph Fidler "Ready" (b. 13 Mar 1821), and Anna Maria "Ready" (b. 21 Sep 1822). All four children were born in Saint Giles, Camberwell Parish, Southwark, Middlesex, except for Mary Sophia who was born in Saint James, Clerkenwell, Islington, Middlesex, 5 miles or 8 kilometers away.

John "Reddy" (b.~1786 Ireland) is listed in the 1841 England Census as living in Buckland, Faringdon, Berkshire, living with wife Mary "Reddy" (b.~1791), and may be the same as the father of the above childen, having the same birth year as in your post. Also, it is only 22 miles (35 kilometers), so it is quite possible.

I found a Charles John "Rhoddy" (b. 20 Jan 1822 - Parents John and Mary Rhoddy) in Clewer, Berkshire, whose birthdate falls between Joseph and Anna above. Also in Clewer, Berkshire, a Sarah Anne "Roddy" (b. 6 May 1824) was born making it unlikely that the Rhoddy family and Ready family are the same, even though the parents names are similar. It is interesting to note that there is a Charles "Roddy" still living in Clewer, Berkshire, in the 1871 England Census.

So far I haven't been able to find birth records for an Elizibeth Ready/Roddy/Rhoddy/Reddy in the same area with parents John/William and Mary.

Having said all of this, I am wondering what the source of your original information is since it appears you mixed these two families (Charles and Sarah Rhoddy/Roddy and Sophia and Mary Ann Ready)? Since your information has last names spelled slighly differently, I am guessing that your source is from family history passed down? If you do have family history, and are willing to share it, I may be able to link your Charles with the one I found in the birth records and hopefully, through exchange of information with you, I may be able to link both to our Charles Roddy.

Hi Nancy,
Just read my message again and I realise it is a bit confusing.
My great grandad was Michael Reidy, I know his Dad was Michael or Maurice Reidy but I don't know of any of his brothers and sisters, though I believe there were about 6 siblings.
The Annie, Michael and Maurice I referred to were his kids.Annie known as Ciss was my Grandmother.
The recycling of family names can be very confusing.
I'll keep you in mind if I think our trees cross.
Ann Marie

Hello, my greatgrandfather was Maurice Reidy from Castleisland, but none of the other names sound familiar to me. He married my greatgrandmother Hannah Sullivan in Cambridge Massachusetts in 1884. He may have had a brother Michael also, but I don't think he had a sister Annie. Nancy

My grandfather was MICHAEL, My great-grandfather was Thomas i know that some of my Dads Aunts and Uncles went to the USA some of them lived in Mass. The names were. Edward, Martin, Thomas. Ellen, Nora and maybe more but these were only the ones we know about. Edward would have been born about 1862.I dont have much information on them, but I do know they were all born in Castleisland, Co Kerry Ireland. Wondering if there might be any connection.

Maggie.

Keith. So if Jerimiah Reidy was your grandfather then the Margaret, Joe and James were your aunt and uncles.(but you have more aunts than that) If i'm thinking of the Reidys in Glenlarhen then you are also related to the Reidy's in Kilcushnin.(I dont think that is the correct spelling) I think Jermiah Reidy Glenlarhen and Micky/Michael Reidy Kilcushnin were 2 brothers right. if we are talking about the Reidys in Glenlarhen. I knew Margaret, and James. they have more sisters than that though.but i cannot think of the names off hand. We wouldn't be related then keith if these are the same Reidys that i knew.
I am looking for Patrick Reidy (born 1950??)or related family. They lived in the San Francisco Bay area near Prospect High School and San Jose in the late 60's and early 70's and seemed to vanish off the radar. My Mother lost track of them and there are so many Reidy variations out there that my history has been difficult to thread together. Please let me know if you might know of any related Reidy family members from the San Jose area. Thank you!

The info I have for Edmond is he was born in 1862 in castleisland to Thomas and Mary. I'm afraid that's all I know about him. Sometimes this is so frustrating, I've found mistakes on certain documents and it throws you off sometimes. People give the wrong info or typos or whatever. And it's sort of hard going back and forth like this also. I never heard of a Michael connected to my Maurice, but who knows. What year did you say he was born?
