Ridenour connection into my Ohio Family

I was given a box of photographs that was pulled from an attic a few years ago. The family reunion is of the descendants of William Michael. He was a farmer in Paulding, Putnam and Allen Counties in Ohio and his descendants have migrated from the area and into other counties in Ohio and into Indiana, Michigan and other states.

I scanned in the box of 157 pictures last night and put
them on one of my other family pages. A couple of the
photos I know while many others have no identifying information at all. Some photos I was able to put an individual name or photo studio as it appeared or was written on the photo.

Feel free to check out the photos. If you can identify
anything please let me know so I can pass on to our family
reunion. There are some names that are prominent that I
believe these people relate to and those names are Michael, Prowant, Ridenour, Zickefoose and Andrews.

Thank you for your help.

http://geocities.com/buttermoreclub/putnam.html

Ryan

Hello all,

I recently visited Tieffenbach in Alsace and I do have some photos that I would like to share with all who can trace their lineage back to the Reutenaurs (and various spellings of the name) who lived in that area before immigrating to the US. It is a beautiful part of the country and I should say my humble attempts of photographing do not do justice to the area. Please contact me offline and I will send copies of them.

John Pace

The 2000 version does not contain Dolphia's family, however.

In 1936, he married Ruth Ellen Peacock (1914 - 2000) in Santa Barbara and they raised their family there.

If anyone is maintaining a tree containing William J Ridenour, I would be pleased to share Dolphia's line with them

I am a descendant of the Maries County Ridenours/Ridenhours, grandson of John William Ridenour, great-grandson of Adam Ridenhour. Thanks to Mo Ridenour's database and the Harwell's book, I know the bare facts all the way back to Anton of Alsace, but don't know much of the more recent history. Of course it would have been good to be curious about this while my father, his brothers, and their mother were still alive, but I wasn't curious enough.

So, I'm interested in corresponding with any of the descendants of Adam Ridenhour who might be able to fill in some of the gaps, and maybe share a story or two.

Will Ridenour
wridenou@illinois.edu

Can anyone verify any of the following information? Samuel Ridenour and a Ms. McFarland (possibly Celia Elizabeth or just Elizabeth) married and gave birth to George Washington Ridenour in Kentucky about 1853. I have just learned some new information that I need verified. Samuel left home to enlist in the Civil War. Celia Elizabeth???? (George's mom) sent George to live with another family...possibly the Elams or Evan's. Where did this family live? My aunt, who gave me this information, said that she can find nothing more historically about Samuel or his wife and very little about George and doesn't even know how accurate the information that I have just listed is. We do know that George later married Almira Harrison and she died in Rocky Comfort MO. By the way, who was Samuel's father and mother?

I understand that her last name may have been Myers when she married E.G. as I'm not sure if Mr. Myers was her first husband or Mr. Ridenour. She was also married to a Mr. Jacobs and a Mr. Fred. J. She didn't drive, and lived on Madison st. near the downtown area. Many times over the year dad would give her rides, and one time I remember her, I , dad and mom going to the festival at st. joe upper church. Mom was busy with grandma, so Agnes and I walked around. I'd of been about 4 - 6 yrs. old at this time, but I remember it. She bought me some pie, or something good like that to eat. She was always very nice, a true Christian woman, and left some money to the St. Mary's church in Tiffin here. I think the lawyer for the estate was a Mr. Bastel, who is a relative on the other side of the house and who practiced in Upper first, and perhaps tiffin later. That's about all I can tell you as I was young, but if I think of anything else....I will write it to you".

Generation Three

8.
Please help!!!
Am trying to find a friend of mine Terri Ridenour (Ridenhour). Her last name might be Jackson now. She lived in Tucson, Arizona in the 1970s. She attended high school in Tucson.
She had a sister who was married to a sergeant in the Air Force, they also lived in Tucson. Both sisters moved to the Arkansas or Missouri area in 1979 or 80.
Have called every listed T. Ridenour (Ridenhour) in the last three years but no luck. Did converse to many people but she appears to have disappeared off the face of the earth.
Thanks, John Jolley (jjolley3@bellsouth.net) or (455306@pilot.fedex.com)
Ritenour/George connections in Warren, VA

Hallo! I am looking for information on the family of the wife of William Henry Ritenour. Her name was Martha Ellen George, born 1841 (either Dec 31 or Jan 1) in Warren County.

Her mother is listed on Martha and Henry's marriage record as 'Mailda', and the couple was married at a Jonathan Ridenour's house (I do not know the exact relation to Henry - something other than brother). I have located censuses from 1850 and 1860 showing a Matilda George living with a Martha Ellen George (Age/locations match). Also listed in the household is a Rachael George (20 years older than Matilda), a Mary George (three years older than Matilda), an Enoch George (12 years older than Martha), a John W George (a few years older than Martha) and a pair of twins (?) Algerius and Alpheus who are the same age as Martha. John later appears to have been connected to a Mary Martin, and they had 6 children in Warren County. Martha died in Carroll County, Illinois in 1909.

All of these people are listed as 'mulatto' (up until they became prosperous in 1900), and there are no older men present. Family history has it that Henry married an Indian and had to leave the county because of this. According to the archives, 'mulatto' was a possible designation used by census givers for Indians living off of the reservation (and therefore subject to tax).

If anybody has any information on this family (pictures, obituaries, etc.) please contact me. I would very much appreciate any help.

Albert "Bert" Ridenour of KC, MO

Hi all!

I am hoping to find any cousins in the Ridenour line, related to Albert RIDENOUR and Ellen/Helen BRANDELL. Albert's mother's name was Sarah Jane ALLEN and Ellen's father's name was Louis, I believe. In 1910, Bert and Ellen had four son's, Doyle (who died in May of 1910, age 9 years), Albert, Clifford (who became a Kansas City PD detective), and Ralph Phillip (who died in June of 1910 at the age of 3months). Albert's mother, Sarah, died at his home on Lister Ave in Kansas City, in 1916. He had a sister, Dottie ALLEN, who married Carlos J. BIRD, and another sister, Frances Elizabeth ALLEN(my great grandmother), born after the 1900 census, who married William J. ENGLE, my great-grandfather. If this line looks familiar, please contact me, as this brickwall has me stuck!!

According to Frances and William's children, she was full-blooded Cherokee, but all death certificates say differently, though in her picture she certainly looks to be of Indian descent. Frances died in May, 1933 at the age of 31 while giving birth to a baby who also died. I have no idea if Uncle Bert was also full-blooded Indian, and census records prior to 1900 have - so far- been unfruitful.

Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

Amy

R B RIDENOUR-Mansfield, Ohio

I am searching for a cousin who married R. B. Ridenour and was shown as a resident of Mansfield, Ohio in her father, Frank P. Wharton's obit in 1947.

These people would probably be in their seventies (or older) if they are still alive. They are one of the few opportunities I might have to find some living cousins--albiet far distant cousins.

The woman I am looking for probably lived in Alexandria, LA or that vicinity before she married.

If anyone has any clue--a living child, grandchild, info on an obit, anything, please contact me.

I have been searching in the census but apparently 1/2 of the population of Ohio is named Ridenour so I haven't been able to find anything. Sure wish I knew her first name.

Thanks for any assistance.

Carolyn Tregre

Their are two of our campaign radio spots. One is of the Ridenour men in Law Enforcement and emergency services. The second is Jim's two daughters. We had a lot of complements on these adds. I have found an entry in world connect that lists her as married to Richard McCarthy but both California Death Index and SSDI state her name was McCarty. I was wondering if she could have been married to John Sheffler McCarty who also died in San Diego Co. Thanks.

I was hoping someone could tell me what record shows the death of Martin Ridenour (son of John R Ridenhour b. 1740) in Clay County, KY in 1838. I see it is listed as such in "Ancestors are Forever". I have searched quite a bit in Clay County records and have never come across that. I can locate a Henry Ridener in several records, one mention of a George Ridener(in 1831), and one mention of a David Ridenour (in 1829) but no mention of Martin Ridenour (not even in the tax lists for this county).

Tom

First I was born in Austin, Texas in August of 1962. This person was in the armed forces in some way and apparently stationed in the central texas area. My natural mother was 19 when i was born and i was given up for adoption. Just recently i found her and she has told me little about this person. She thought she remembered that he was from somewhere in the Carolinas. Now since i am 41, I am going to guess that this gentleman might be around the ages of 61-65 or maybe a few years older. any and all help is greatly appreciated
