Adam Ritter DOB 6/20/1888 Milities Hungary

I am looking for any information on Adam Ritter. He was born 6/20/1888 in Milities Hungary.
Arrived in the US in 1907 on the La Lorraine. He was a tailor by trade but probably worked other jobs as well, especially after he left Manhattan.

He married Marie Kitsch in Ohio somewhere between 1907 and 1910. I can trace him up to the 1930 Census. He was my great-grandfather. He left his family (I believe about 1939) to seek work elsewhere-the family in 1930 was living in Manhattan. He never returned to his family.

In 1930 he had 4 children but I believe there was a 5th after 1930. In 1930, he was 41 years old. It was rumored that he sought employment at the World's Fair. It is possible that he also ended up in Michigan?
Known places lived:
Cleveland, Ohio (1910 Census)
Manhattan, NY (1930 Census)
Any help locating Adam would be greatly appreciated!
Bronx NY (1920 Census)
Yhank You!!!
Beth Ritter

RITTER/RUTTER/RIGHTER/etc of Pennsylvania

My gggg grandparents were John RITTER/RUTTER and Mary E. STINSMAN/STINSON/DINSMAN/STONEMAN/etc. They were the parents of

Mathias RITTER married Mary Ann VANCE born about 1825 in Ireland. They eventually moved to Camden, NJ

George RUTTER born 1833 in Philadelphia married an Emma Matilda who's mother's maiden name was DUFFY/DUFFEE?. These were my ggg grandparents. They lived in the Southwark section of Philadelphia all throughout the census years.

Anna RUTTER born about 1835 in Philadelphia married George CROMLEY/CRUMLEY/CROWLEY?

The following 3 brothers are definitely connected to my tree but I haven't found the common link yet since I do not know who their parents are...

John RUTTER born about 1821 in PA married Margaret GOUGH/GOFF born about 1824 in PA.

Joseph RUTTER born about 1826 in PA married an Emma born about 1830 in PA

Bishop RUTTER born about 1828 married? to a Theresa V.

My grandmother told me that the HETZEL/HANSELL?s were related through one of her RUTTER cousins and also that there was a Heber RUTTER that was related.

While I was trying to find the HETZEL/RUTTER connection I found the following information which adds 2 more RUTTER branches to my tree but of course with no common link...

Southwark Ward 5 1850 census

Robert RUTTER age 47 baker
Mary age 43
George W. age 22
Elizabeth age 18
Mary J. age 14
William DURRAND age 13
Elizabeth CALHOUN age 10

very next family enumerated...

Jacob HETZELL age 35
Matilda age 32
Mary A age 11
Margaret age 9
Jacob L. age 9 or 1
Jacob SLOAN age 15

When I searched for Robert in the 1870 census I found the following informationRobert RUTTER age 67
Mary age 58
Elizabeth age 30
Mary J. age 24

Enumerated a few houses before is the following family...

Anna RUTTER shop keeper age 48
William L. age 23
Jacob B. age 19
Joseph J. age 16
James R. age 13
Emma MARKER age 16

I do not have this particular Emma MARKER connected to my tree yet but Sarah RUTTER born Oct 1851 in Philadelphia, a daughter of my ggg grandparents George and Emma RUTTER, married Adam William MARKER/MERKER/MAERKER/etc born about 1849 in PA. I am about 99.999% sure that that she fits into his family somewhere.

Now, a RUTTER family with a Heber in it in the 1880 census T9 1181 p. 260d

Margaret H. RUTTER age 45 self
James age 21 other
Bradford age 20 other
Heber age 17 other
Mary age 14 other
Henry age 8 other
Charles age 6 other
Ann HANSELL (Could this be HETZEL?) age 83 mother
Louisa FRENCH age 25 niece
and 2 servents Margaret RYAN age 42 and Mary McCALLA age 17

I'd love to hear from anyone with a connection that can help me put these RITTER/RUTTERs together. There are so many of them and I think at least most of the Pennsylvania RITTER/RUTTER families are connected through blood. marriage, friends or business.

Happy hunting!
Ella

Abraham RITTER - Bavaria > PA > MN

Abraham Ritter and his wife, Maria Antonia, brought their family to America on the ship Argo, which arrived in New York from Havre on 24 Jun 1847. Listed on the ship's manifest with them are 4 children. I have only identified 2 of those children, Crescentia Ritter (my great-grandmother), who married Mathias Schadegg, and Maria Thekla Ritter, who married Johann Georg Kugler. Would like to find any information about those other 2 children. One is a girl - Therese - who was 19 at the time (so born about 1828), the other is an 18-year-old male whose name starts with "Ma.." but the rest is unreadable. Of course the sex could be wrong, as both Thekla and Crescentia are also listed as male farmers.

The Ritter, Schadegg and Kugler families moved from New York to Elk County, PA, and then to Waconia, Carver County, Minnesota. I have not yet been able to locate the families in the 1850 census.

Would love to hear from anyone with any information about these other 2 members of the family.

George RITTER born 1833 in Philadelphia, PA son of John and Mary RITTER (STINSMAN)

Hi everybody! I just found out that death records are free online and found a boatload of information more on my family!!

It might not really seem like a lot of information but it has broken down a few pieces of my RUTTER or so it seems, RITTER brick wall.

Those of you who remember me from doing extensive RITTER/RUTTER research about 4 years ago, please drop me a line with an up-to-date email address. I can't wait to hear from any of you and anyone else who might think they might have a possible connections!

According to my ggg grandfather's death certificate his information is as follows...

George W. M. RITTER lived at 1741 S Water St (originally Otsego St) at the time of his death. He had lived there most, if not all of his life.

He was a white married male and was employed as a gas fitter.

He was born March 13, 1833 in Philadelphia, PA and died of apoplexy on November 26, 1910 in Philadelphia, PA at age 77 years 9 months and 13 days. He was burried in Union Vau?? K of P Cemetery on December 3, 1910. His wife, my ggg grandmother, Mrs. Emma M. RITTER signed his death certificate.

I have a deathe certificate for Emma also. Her father's name is unknown and her mother's maiden name was DUFFY.

His parents were John RITTER and Mary RITTER (STINSMAN). They were both born in PA.

I have John RITTER's deather certificate here also. Unfortunately, at the time of his death, parents' names were only recorded if the deceased was a minor.

John RITTER was a white male age 90 years and married (actually widowed) when he passed away on September 23, 1873 from dropsy. He was burried at Union Cemetery on September 26, 1873.

He lived at 1741 Otsego St (Water St) at the time of his death where he and my ggg grandparents lived together since at least 1860.

He was a rope maker and was born in Philadelphia, PA.

Now I'm at the brick wall again but still quite elated! I look forward to hearing from anyone who has or might have a connection.

Happy hunting!
Ella

An Ritter descendants of George Christian Ritter (1760-1830) and George's wife Eva Schreiner (1768-1850). There was a book written by their grandson in 1905 about the family history. It contains all the descendants and biographical innformation on them through the date the book was written (1905). There is a copy of it on Ancestry.com: http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=22661

I am trying to locate current Ritter's that may have one of the original copies of this book. Ritter, b 1912, d 1972 in Milwaukee.

There were also three younger children listed with the family in the 1930 Census, Milwaukee:
Otto Ritter Jr., b ~1912;
Mae Ritter, b ~1914;
Ray Ritter, b ~1915.
They aren't listed as survivors in Caroline's 1950 death notice, so they might have been nephews and a niece--or perhaps all three died before 1950.
Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 26 May 1904, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

HORSETHIEVES IN PLENTY

Twenty-Two Head Stolen Near Coweta – Thieves Captured

Muskogee: Within the past few days there have been twenty-two head of horses stolen within a few miles of Coweta, northwest of this city twenty miles. Charles Hobbs has been arrested at Coweta, John Wilkinson at Muskogee and Jim Ritter at Brooken, all charged with either stealing the horses or receiving them after they had been stolen.

The horses were running on the range near Coweta and belonged to farmers. The thieves swooped down upon them, rounded up the twenty-two head and drove them out of the country. Hobbs lived at Coweta and disappeared at the time the horses were stolen. He returned and was arrested. The other two were arrested with some of the stolen property in their possession and are believed to know all about the thieves. It is understood that they are willing to tell of three companions who were with them and assisted in stealing the horses. Three of the stolen animals have been recovered, and it is likely that the rest of them have been run out of the country and sold.
I am trying to find any of the Ritter clan from Climax Springs, Missouri in Benton, Camden, and surrounding counties. There is a book of names, dates, and pics on this family but I live in TX and can't get to it. My mom was Zelma (Ritter) Canfield and I don't have any where to go from there other than her brothers were James, Robert, Johnny. Sister Viola who was in Kansas. My grandfathers name could have been C A Ritter. Names I can remember are: Gordon and Iva B who had Gordinia and Roberta. John Ritters all over the charts. Dorothy, Lewis, Wilbur Lewis,Charlie, Elmer, and Clarence. I have my dad traced back to the 1200's but nothing on my mom. My memory is so bad. All I remember is that they were from Climax Springs and that their old homestead was the second house on an dirt road just off hwy. 5 north. My mom was born in that house and it is no longer there. Please help. ozarkianroadkill@comcast.net

Jacob Ritter (1757, Springfield Twp., Bucks Co., PA - 1841, Plymouth, Montgomery Co., PA)

I recently purchased a little book "Memoirs of Jacob Ritter, A Faithful Minister in the Society of Friends," by Joseph Foulke, Philadelphia, 1844, which chronicles the life (mostly religious events) of Jacob Ritter, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Ritter (who came from Germany and settled in Springfield Twp.). Jacob Jr. married twice: His first wife was Dorothy Smith (spring 1778) with whom he had several children. She died in Philadelphia where Jacob was a successful shoemaker, year unknown, before 1794. In 1794 he "removed with [his] motherless children to Springfield" and in 1802 married Ann Williams of Buckingham. In the spring of 1812 he moved his family to Plymouth where he remained until his death.
The book chronicles his service and desertion in the Revolutionary War and his imprisonment, but mainly deals with his conversion to the Society of Friends.
This is a wonderful piece of historical significance for the Ritter family. I see that the text is on line, but if anyone would like to have the antique book, it's yours for what I paid ($10) plus postage.

Priscilla Stone Sharp
State College, PA

Issac S (1859-1917) RITTER of Mississippi > Oklahoma

Our branch of the Ritter Family originally came into the America's through North/South Carolina from STUTGARDT, GERMANY. We are directly related to the BARON von RITTER whose family still owns the RITTER CANDY/CONFECTIONERS in Stutgardt.

We have only a small amount of information on this side of the family. Our Ritter's owned a sizeable plantation in Mississippi from about the 1830's until after the war Between the States. There were at least six sons and possibly two or three daughters.

The father's name was either JOHN, JONATHAN, or BENJAMIN. There is no record of the mother's name. We believe they may have lived in ITAWAMBA COUNTY, but there is no confirmed record. In about 1867 the entire family moved into ARKANSAS where the elder Ritter may have died. Five of his sons moved into the INDIAN/OKLAHOMA TERRITORIES in about 1885 settling in the area near VIOLET SPRINGS, McCLAIN COUNTY.

The only family members we have record of are ISSAC S. RITTER his younger brother JOHN ROBERT RITTER. ISSAC married at least twice, first to MARY FLOYD in about 1890?, then to a MRS. MARY(?) JONES. Issac's known children were CLARENCE COLUMBUS, WALTER EVERETT (our Grandfather), ULA/BULLA, and DONEY/DONIE and by Mrs. Jones IRVIN, RAVIS, IRENE.

JOHN ROBERT became a Judge in McClain County, and eventually had to give up the bench for "legal reasons." He gave the County of McClain land which was to be used for the community cemetary. It is now the DIBBLE MAIN CEMETARY on the line between McCLAIN GRADY COUNTY, OKLAHOMA. There is record of only one child born to John Robert and his wife ADA KELLY Ritter, she was OPAL RITTER who married a MR. McMAHON. Ada died on 18FEB1965 in Oklahoma City. She was living with her daughter's family at the time. We do not have any further information on this side of the family.

We would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have detailed information on these ritter family members.

On the 1860 census Moses was living next door to son Everett and his wife Rebecca. On the other side was Mary Campbell Autry, widow of William A. Would also like to know how Ephraim Autry was related to Mary Campbell Autry's husband William A. Autry. I have hit a very stubborn brick wall with the Autrys.

I am a RITTER family descendant.
I took photos at the KOPE cemetery in Wayne Co., OH and found graves of RITTER family who I can not link up in my database.
Jacob RITTER, died Sept 8, 1847 at age 67y 9m 22d
putting his birth at: Nov 17, 1779. He has a military flag mounted onto his tombstone for the War of 1812.
Beside him is his wife, Magdalene, d. Feb 15, 1833 at age 45y 10m 2d
putting her birth at: Apr 13, 1787
**************************************
Also buried in this cemetery are Descendants of Johannes (b.1743) and Maria Elisabeth (KECK) RITTER, namely their great-grandchildren, Theophilus, Maryann, Levi and an infant. Children to two of their grandsons, Frederick and Henry (sons of Johannes'(b.1743) son, Johannes (b.1771)and wife Anna Maria (BESCHERT) RITTER).
Johannes (b.1771)and Anna Maria (BESCHERT) left Pennsylvania and came to Wayne County, OH in 1822.
**********************
My hypothesis is that this tombstone I have found is in fact the brother to Johannes (b.1771) and a son to Johannes (b.1743), although most other databases I am finding online show that Johannes (b.1743) had a son, Jacob RITTER born in 1785, who married a Maria Magdalene STUMPF.
************************
Does anyone have any further information on Jacob RITTER?

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Mcalester County, Oklahoma as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: THOMAS WARREN RITTER
Born: July 2, 1925. Caucasian
Date of loss: March 29, 1951. Missing in Action

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Ritter family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
My grandmother was a Ritter from Edmonson Co., Ky. Their homeplace is now part of the Mammoth Cave National Park. I have information I'd be willing to share. My grandmother was Hattie "Ritter" Davis of Cave City, Barren Co., Ky. She was born Jan.1, 1891 and died June 1, 1979. Her parents were William Johnson Ritter and Nancy Susan Blair. William was born Nov. 15, 1865 and died June 6, 1938. Nancy was born Aug. 20, 1869 and died Aug. 8, 1940 They were married Nov. 14, 1889.
The information I have goes back to Abraham Ritter, born about 1740 either in Maryland or Virginia. He died in Barren Co., Ky. in 1810. This early information I'm not 100% sure about. But back to Ealey Thomas Ritter (William Johnson's dad) born Oct. 27, 1837 and died May 18, 1922, I am sure of.
