I replied on the Robinson list and then realized that this came via the Robinson Message Board. For some, this is a repeat of information. I apologize.

I've found John and Eunice in the 1860 Federal Census of Hartsville, Steuben County, NY (post office Purdy Creek). This is only conjecture, but there are 3 Robinson families within 4 houses and all work with shingles, which means
they could be related. (My guess is that James B. is the father of John P., who is the father of John C., who is the father of your grandmother, Myra.)

Household #118:
John P. Robinson, age 54, M, steam engineer, born NY
Alvira Robinson, age 49, F, house wife, born NY
William L. Robinson, age 17, F, shingle sawyer, born NY
Almira Robinson, age 15, F, born NY
James Robinson, age 13, M, born NY
Charles R. Robinson, age 9, M, born NY
James B. Robinson, age 79, M, shingle buncher, born VT

Household #120:
John C. Robinson, age 29, M, farmer, born NY
Eunice Robinson, age 22, F, housewife, born NY
Willard A. Robinson, age 6, M, born NY
Mandonia Robinson, age 4, F, born NY
Nathain Robinson, age 2, M, born NY
Vandelin Robinson, age 1 month, born NY

Household #121:
Willard Robinson, age26, M, shingle sawyer, born NY
Clarissa Robinson, age 20, F, housewife, born NY
Ada Robinson, age 2, F, born NY

Again, I found John and Eunice in the 1870 Federal Census of Genessee Falls, Wyoming Co, NY (Post Office Portageville) living next door to probably yet another relative (possibly his brother):

Household #101:
Joseph Robinson, age 21, M, White, Works on farm, born NY
Lucy Robinson, age 18, F, White, Keeps house

Household #102:
John Robinson, age 39, M, White, Farmer, born NY
Eunice Robinson, age 33, F, White, Keeps house, born NY
Willard Robinson, age 15, M, White, Works on Farm, born NY
Mandana Robinson, age 13, F, White, At-home, born NY
Melville Robinson, age 11, M, White, Attending School, born NY
Van Amler Robinson, age 9, M, White, Attending School, born NY
Hiram Robinson, age 5, M, White, born NY
Ella Robinson, age 3, F, White, born NY
Mary Robinson, age 1, F, White, born NY

In the 1880 Federal Census of Pike, Wyoming Co, NY I found the following family with yet more children:
John Robinson, age 50, white, head of household, farm laborer, born NY, both
parents born NY,
Unice Robinson, age 44, white, wife, keeping house, born NY, both parents
born NY
Willard Robinson, age 22, white, son, single, born NY
Hiram Robinson, age 14, white, son, single, born NY
Ella Robinson, age 13, white, daughter, single, born NY
Mary Robinson, age 11, white, daughter, single, born NY
Myra Robinson, age 9, white, daughter, single, born NY
John Robinson, age 7, white, son, single, born NY
Henry Robinson, age 5, white, son, single, born NY
Fred Robinson, age 2, white, son, single, born NY

There is no 1890 Census available. What was her husband's name? Perhaps I can track her family through 1930. I did find a family tree on Ancestry.com that included a Myra Ida Robinson, born in 1871, but it's a private tree that can't be viewed. So, I'm not sure this is your Myra.

I hope this all helped.
Wendy

Hello, Diane,

Unfortunately, I don't have any information that would help with your Georgia Robinson family. Good luck with that research!
I'm still wondering about the identification of Letticia, the wife of Robert Hoge, as a Robinson. You say you got that information from this web site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~milliken/j...
The way I interpret that site is that the Mrs. Robinson he's talking about is Jenny Hoge who married Alexander Robinson, and the sister Martha whose grandson inherited is Jenny Hoge's sister Martha. I might be wrong about that, but the interpretation make sense to me.

Linda
After the death of a relative, I as the executor of my parents estate received a great deal of information on my family tree, thus I've just started researching our geneology and am looking for help, suggestions or further information on my father's lineage.

Robert, my father is the son of Clayton, my grandfather, who is the son of Sidney James Robinson, who is the son of James H. Robinson and Prudence Attarista Smith. James was born in Jan 1841 somewhere in New York and married Smith in Lapeer County, MI. I've come across some information that indicates James may be the son of Simeon and Stella Robinson....a match to the geneology of Peter (ancestry.com email is petermal1).

Any suggestions, help, or further info would be greatly appreciated...thanks to all.

Douglas

Hello Patrick,
I am wondering if you have a list of children besides Samuel (married Hannah Crane) for John Robinson (b.1690 Woodbridge) and Mary. They were the Andrew Robeson descendants who died in Westfield, NJ.

I ask because I saw your old post. I am hoping you are an authority on this line!

My hope is that they had a son named John (b. 1718 Woodbridge) that married a "Desiah" in 1739, who died in 1746 and is buried in the First Presbyterian Church in Woodbridge.

I have narrowed my list of candidates down to this couple as parents of my 5th great grandfather James Robinson (1744-1825). He was from Middlesex County, lived on the Old Post Road between Woodbridge and New Brunswick in Piscataway and married Catharine Provost. His sons were intermarried with the FitzRandolphs, Dunns, etc. He was a "townie" apparently. There are few other candidates!

Linda,
Unfortunately no, this is the first info I have on these two women. And it all came from the same source.
My family has stories about being Irish/Scots, having 8 siblings(or possibly cousins included) and coming over to America abt 1800. This DOES NOT match up with actual data found that proves we are descended from William C Robinson b 1824, a landowner, slaveholder, and physician in Jasper & Newton County Georgia. It can be shown that this William C Robinson is son of John Robinson, who was son of John Luke, who was son of Luke Robinson. In this family the names Luke, Jesse, & Martha come up a lot, as well as being healers/physicians comes up often. Our group is from the Carolinas but is in area of Newton/Jasper County GA by as early as 1800.
And although our Luke is the "EKA" Earliest known ancestor for our group, he is said to have been born in the USA, probably VA, and obviously before 1800. So- although there are similarities and circumstantial evidence to connect the two families, there are also discrepancies when I try to match these two families up.

Anyone else have any ideas or information that may show a connection between our Luke Robinson who married Christian Ussery then Obedience Leggett Adams---

and
---(probably 2 generations later in the same location)
this physician Luke Robinson, son of Jesse I. & Elizabeth E. Robinson, who the son of Luke Robinson a baptist preacher in Henry County?

All help appreciated. Thanks!
Diane

sources for some info is:
Men of Mark in Georgia
A Complete and Elaborate History of the State from its settlement to the present time, chiefly told in biographies and auto- biographies of the most eminent men of each period of Georgia's progress and development.
Edited by William J. Northen (former governor of GA)
Historical Introduction by Editor John Temple Graves
A. B. Caldwell, Publisher, 1907

And possibly her sister Martha is the same as this Martha:

Martha Robinson b 1749/50 married William Bratton, d1816 GA.
Bratton family tradition states that Martha Robinson/Robeson/Robertson was born on a ship bearing her parents to the American colonies from Northern Ireland. She grew up learning about herbal medicines and home health care from her Ulster=Scots elders in VA or NC. She brought that knowledge with her when she married William Bratton and moved with him to the area that would become York County in the 1760s.
Shirley, that's a very good question. My copy was passed down through my family.

I seriously doubt obtaining one nowadays would even be possible unless through sheer luck.

Should one get lucky and find one, they'd be shocked to realize it probably weighs 15 pounds since it was printed on only one side of the page.

Making it even more "user-unfriendly," it contains neither an index nor a table of contents.

I spent quite a bit of time extracting information and entering it onto a genealogical data base last year. I do monitor this message board and run queries through it. Although I don't nesessarily announce the fact that I've done so unless I get a match.

Mr. Oates has, as this Robinson Family's Patriarch:

1. Thomas Robinson was born Between 1675 and 1676 in Pasquotank Co., NC and died January 31, 1719. He married Sarah Symons October 9, 1711 in Newbegun Creek, Pasquotank Co., NC. She was born Between 1679 and 1680 in Pasquotank Co., NC and died August 28, 1717 in Albermarle Co., NC..

If you'd like for me to search for something specific, by all means let me know, and I'll gladly do so. I didn't digitize this thing for any other reason other than to share its contents with interested family researchers.

I'm also attaching a copy of the behemoth's cover, in case you - or others - might want to look for a copy.

Cordially,

~ Jeff

Northen (former governor of GA)
Historical Introduction by Editor John Temple Graves
A. B. Caldwell, Publisher, 1907

P216

LUKE ROBINSON
IT IS perhaps within the truth to say that in every town of the Southern States, prominent in the various walks of life will be found the descendants of Scotch-Irish immigrants, who, between 1650 and 1800 came to the Southern States from the old country. The sturdy Scotchmen who emigrated to the North of Ireland and then in turn after a generation or two came on to America, appear to have greatly strengthened the Scotch blood by the intermixture with the Irish. The Irish blood gave a dash of the adventurous spirit which characterized that people and which was all the solid, steady Scotchman needed to make him the ideal pioneer. It was not surprising, therefore, that in the making of all of our Southern States they cut so large a figure, and the newer States, like Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia owe to them an enormous debt. They were always on the front line, and to the courage of the pioneer added the solidity of the prudent and law abiding citizen. Of this stock comes Doctor Luke Robinson, of Covington, who, though yet a young man, stands at the head of his profession in that flourishing little city.
He was born in Walton county, Georgia, on May 17, 1869, son of Doctor Jesse I. and Frances Elizabeth (Etchieson) Robinson. Luke and Jesse Robinson, the progenitors of the family in Georgia, came from Ireland about 1800. Luke was a Baptist preacher who settled in Henry county near where the town of Conyers now stands and was the recognized head of the family. His son, Jesse I. Robinson, was a physician for thirtynine years in the active practice, and served as a surgeon in the Confederate Army. Doctor Luke Robinson received his education in the common schools of the country, with a short term at Mercer University, at Macon. Having decided to follow his father-s profession he entered the medical college, at Atlanta, Georgia, and in 1893 was graduated with the degree of M.D. He began the practice of his profession that same year at Walnut Grove, Walton county, from which place he later removed to Covington, and has there built up a practice second to that of no man in his county.
On January 17, 1894, he married Miss Emma G. Armstrong, a daughter of Captain William and Lucy Armstrong. Of this marriage there have been born five children, all living.
Doctor Robinson is a communicant of the Southern Methodist Church. In politics he is a lifetime Democrat. A strong fraternalist, he is affiliated with the Masons, Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows, and Woodmen of the World. For years past he has served as medical examiner in his county for some of the leading life insurance companies of America. His life is a record of hard work and professional success.
In looking for Luke Robinson & family I found a Margaret Robinson b 1750ish d 1816.
Martha Robinson b 1749/50 married William Bratton d1816

Bratton family tradition states that Martha Robinson/Robeson/Robertson was born on a ship bearing her parents to the American colonies from Northern Ireland. She grew up learning about herbal medicines and home health care from her Ulster=Scots elders in VA or NC. She brought that knowledge with her when she married William Bratton and moved with him to the area that would become York County in the 1760s.
She likely doctored her family, her neighbors, and her husband's slaves. One story that illustrates her talents as a healer took place after the Battle of Huck's defeat, fought near her homestead on July 12 1780. British casualties were brought into her house after the morning battle. It appears that most of them were able to leave the Brattons by that evening, with one notable exception. Captain John Adamson, a Loyalist officer who came to Mrs Bratton;s aid the previous day, fell off his horse during the battle and was impaled on a pine sapling. He stayed with the Brattons for several days, while Martha nursed his wound.

From this posting
http://chmuseums.org/_pdf/Brattons_Family_of_Physicans.pdf

If anyone knows anything else about this person and her parents/siblings please let me know. I am studying the physicians in the Robinson family (who were in Jasper & Newton Co GA mid 1800s.)Especially about Luke Robinson b 1738ish who lived in NC, SC, and descendants in GA.

Thank you-
Diane

Shirley,
I appreciate the offer. I am looking for any info on my Robinson connection. I am descendant of "Dr. " William C Robinson b 1824 GA, of Jasper & Newton County GA. He married Sarah Frances ...Morgan? and they had three children together. They had a volitile marriage, and at his death in 1858 he had disavowed her and put her out of his will, and in his will gave custody rights of his children over to his brothers! This went on in courts for some time, and I believe from what I can tell so far that she eventually took the kids and ran, getting married just across state line in AL to one of his business partners named Dr Allen P. Morris.

I know some of William C's family story. He was son of John, John L Robinson, son of Luke Robinson. I do not know what the middle initial "C" stood for in this family line. I do not know how he was educated as a physician, and if he was a self taught plantation doctor or if he had some kind of medical apprenticeship or school training.

I would like anything on this Robinson line at all, if anyone has anything I would greatly appreciate sharing.

Thanks!

Diane
This may be a long shot but maybe not. I have wondered what happened to James Robinson b abt 1846.

Your family names correspond with my Robinson family, I have a James b. abt 1846 in Canada. He has brothers Levi W. and John Wesley Robinson.

My James could be the father of your James Wesley.
Now Levi W Robinson moves to Michigan abt 1870 with his family, sister Elizabeth and husband Samuel Bannister family. Samuel and Elizabeth leave for the west and go to Oregon. I wonder if my James went part way and headed to Texas?

My Robinson family is on Worldconnect at this website. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=botting

Like I said likely a long shot.

Regards,
Dave Botting,
Ontario, Canada

I just got my hands on my great grandfathers pedigree charts and I found this same, John Robinson (along with a long line of John Robinsons) born in Meppersall, England and settle in Ipswich, Haverill and Exeter 1652 and was killed by indians in 1675.

Vachel Hall Robinson (b abt 1822, d after 1895) was born in Ohio, lived his late years in Kansas. This man was married twice, once to Eleanor Dinsmore; once to Mary Buchanan. Does anyone know Vachel's origins? The censuses say his parents both were born in Maryland.

I am trying to find out what school the girls attended in England. My g-grandmother said that they all did some schooling back "home". On the 1891 Cambridgeshire census there is an Ethel and Florie Robinson boarding at Wisbech. The ages and place of birth correspond with my other information. Do you have anything on this?

- Liz

I've found some records that could be close, but not quite (missing this by a decade of two). Does anyone have any information or recommendations on sources?
Hello again,

Thank you very much for the information about John Robinson. Your information has filled in a missing piece of the family jigsaw. He was one of my great-great grandfathers. I only have sketchy information about his career.

I have also found six children for Zachariah Robinson. According to census records, all of the sons, with the exception of John, stayed around Worcester/Staffordshire. The Robinson clan seems to have been fairly prolific in these areas for several centuries. As they tended to use similar names for their children over the generations it is difficult to sort out who is who - have you had any luck in this regard? The Chance family also goes back quite a way in Worcester and there is quite a bit of information about them through Ancestry.

Thanks again,
Liz

Noticed your post on Col Robinson. Would like to get additional historical info on his life. I have transcribed his very extensive obituary from the Cumberland Times and would be happy to forward it to you. I was born in Patterson Creek, WV and, in fact, lived directly across the road from Col Robinson's home. My Aunt and Uncle owned the home for several years. Unfortunately, the current owners have allowed it to fall into disrepair. Would you happen to have a picture of it in the late 1800's or early 1900's. Also have a letter written by J. Humbird Smith to Aunt Grace that I have also transcribed. It is an interesting historical view of Patterson Creek.
Please provide your direct e-mail address and I'll send you the data that I have.
Bill Anderson
customer1st@bellsouth.net
770.454.8475

Hello Liz
Yes we have the same info.
John Robinson died in Tientsin China on 3rd April 1905.
He had been unwell for a while before that. He is buried in Tientsin in the same grave as Alice. That should be the other way around of course, as she survived him. I have a photo of the grave somewhere. I saw an obituary written by the Methodists, which gives an interesting insight into his career. Zachariah had 6 children that I know of. John and Alice had four daughters.
Can you tell me your relationship to John Robinson? John was one of my great-grandfathers.
Best Wishes CK
Hi,

There doesn't seem to be much activity from the Robinson side of things - perhaps we are the only two looking at present!

Zachariah and Mary Ann (nee Chance) were married on 14-5-1838 in Halesowen, Worcestershire. He was the son of Benjamin and Sarah and Mary Ann was the daughter of John and Caroline - all from Worcestershire.

Do you know when and where John Robinson died? Alice died in China in 1918 but I can't find John after that.

Regards,
Liz
