I would be happy to be contacted if there is
information on a Captain Roche (believed to
be)from ILL.USA. He skippered a Tall Ship
plying trade in the South Seas.Eventually
settled in Hong Kong (mid 1800s) and fostered three
Spanish/Filipino boys from Manilla
(cabin boys). There might be an Irish/Texas
Connection. Also possible he skippered a
British vessel. He never married!I am the
great grandson of one of the adopted boys.
Lizola could have been spelled LISSOHER.

thank you for your reply. My father heard some interesting facts re: our name (roche). First he mentioned that we were direct decendents of William the Conquerer and that there was supposedly a norman french knight that fought in one of the crusades and intermarried into the house of pharoahs. it sounds like make believe to me...I mean, can this be true?

Looking for a Nicholas Roche

I am Looking for a Nicholas Roche of VANCLUSE (i.e Vauchluse) married on the 10th June 1800 to Leitita BOURKE they had four children one of who was Edward Roche who married Maria Theresa Bourke.
Edward Roche's seal/signature seems to have been signed to one of the above deeds c. 1833. He seems to have sold the property at Toulougher and Vauchluse ( which are mentioned in the deeds) to a Barrington of Dublin just before he emigrated in 1833
There may be more mentioned in the above deeds.Vauchluse Cottage is shown on 1842 maps and is situated just north of Slievefelim mountain. Toorlougher is situated just south down the road from Vauchluse. In the deeds Vauchluse is stated to be an alias for Toorlougher as well.

Edward and Maria sailed to Australia in 1833 and had two children a John Bourke Roche and a James Edward Roche. In 1837 Edward was Chief Constable of Yass (incorporating that area down to Victoria) there is one mention of him in the Historical books from that era. In 1837 sometime he was replaced and there is no record of him leaving or been killed or the like, there is also no inquest or similar enquires. Maria and her two sons move to Melbourne in 1840 where she is left a considerable amount of money from Ireland. In legal sworn documents I have from the time, state that she said he was dead, however the legal documents I also have tell that the lawyers do not believe her, as she says she cannot remember when he died not the day month or year. One of the sons later moves to New Zealand which is where I am from and one stays in Australia.
The line is very small on both sides. I won`t go into too much here but it is very interesting and if there is interest I can send of details of the History.

Any information on Nicholas would be greatly appreciated, and if I can share anything with you please let me know
A Trabulgan Roche

A memorial of an Indenture Deed of conveyance Bearing date the Twenty Fourth day of September one thousand Eight hundred and Thirty three made Between Edward Roche of Vaucluse in the County of Limerick Esquire of the first part Mathew Barrington of Lower Fitzwilliam Street in the city of Dublin Esquire of the second part and Samuel Barrington of said City of Dublin Esquire Barrister at Law of the third part

After Reciting as therin is recited Said Deed witnessed that for the considerations therein mentioned the Said Edward Roche did Grant Bargain sell alien and release unto the said Samuel Barrington to his Heirs and assigns All that and those the southern part of the town and lands of Tourlogher and the Subdenomination of [Barnernong] there unto belonging as the same was formerly laid out and shown by Mr Henry Judge and Henry Fisher and so divided from the Eastern part of Tourlogher demised to Mr John O'Brien by Richard Morgan of the City of Dublin Esquire who also demised to William O'Brien said Southern Division all which said Lands and Premises contain Four hundred and Seventy acres or thereabouts plantation measure be the same more or less situate lying and being in the Barony of Owneybeg in the County of Limerick

-------------------------------
We're trying to find any relatives still living in Ireland, or find out more of the family history. Richard's parents were Michael Roche and Catherine Grady; Michael's parents were Richard Roche and Mary Regan; Richard's parents were Patrick Roche and Catherine Ambrose; Patrick's mother was Ellen O'keefe? (there's a Joseph Regan in there somewhere too). Any info. or connections?

Freeman/Rose/Spanberg/Roche DNA match...any help?

Greetings, My sister and I had a MT DNA test done(both to verify results) and we have a direct match back starting with Polly Freeman born 1795 in Onondaga NY. Then her daughter Emily Elizabeth Freeman born 1817 in Onondaga also, married John Andrew Rose in 1844 in Colden NY. Their daughter Polly Rose born in Humphry NY. in 1853 married Thomas Thompson and moved to Hinton, Michigan. From there the Thompson family went out west, with no access to our ancestors. My maternal lines are as follows: Great great grandmother Cornelia Spanberg(maiden name unknown)married Charles, Great grandmother Elizabeth Spanberg(maiden name unknown),married Homer. My grandmother Ida Mary Roche(maiden name Spanberg) married William. Last but not least my mother Rowena Coleman(maiden name Roche). All of my ancestry are from NY where they must have met a Rose or Freeman. Any connection please?????

Roches of Enniscorthy, Wexford

My parents Michael Joseph and Bridget Ann Roche (Cullen) moved to Australia in 1961. My father was born in Enniscorthy in 1934 to Peter Joseph Roche and Margaret Roche (Larkin) and my mother was born in England in 1938 although her father John Joseph Cullen was from Wexford and mother Mary Ellen Cullen (Gallagher) was from Birr in Offaly. I have practically no information on my family and would love to hear from anyone who could help trace my family tree. I believe my father had an uncle John Roche who moved to Laois.

If anyone has any knowledge of this family I would appreciate hearing from you at blazick123-genie@yahoo.com.

Hope to hear

The children were Ellen, Mary, Michael, John, Margaret, James (1837-1903). The three sons married and had families. John Martin Roche married Bridget Shea, Michael Roche married Mary Barry and James Roche married Mary Power. James and Mary were my great great grandparents. He married Mary Jane Dorsey on June 27, 1883 in Haverhill. They had 9 children Norbert (1884-1885), Leo David (1886-1948), Ann Norton (1887-1937), Bernadette Mary (1890-1920), Donald Francis (1892-1929), Catherine Dorsey (1894-1971), Faber Neuman (1896-1944), Dorothy Esther (1898-1988), and Mary Gertrude (1899-1993). Bernadette was my grandmother. She married Joseph James Gavin (1889-1954) on February 15, 1912 in Haverhill. They had 3 sons and 1 daughter. They were Donald William (1913-1981), Helen Bernadette (1915- ), William Francis (1917-1944) and David Roche (1919-1999). David was my father. William was single and was killed during WWII.
1798 Rebellion Roche, Murphy

Hi - my grandmother Agnes Irene Murphy was the daughter of John Murphy and Harriet Carrole, who was the daughter of Daniel Carrole and Susan OConnor , who was the daughter of Patrick OConnor and Anna Roche. Their tombstones state that they were born in 1803 and 1817, respectively. They were on the 1860 census in Herkimer Co, NY.

My Grandmother used to say that her grandmother (Susan OConnor) was never allowed to talk about her maiden name or where they came from (IRE) since their family was involved in the 1798 rebellion. Another family member says that Anne Roche was the daughter of someone in the rebellion...but those dates wouldn't add up right. He also said Anna Roche had a half-brother named Robert Dempsey.

Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on this? TIA

Is anyone researching David Roche who married Ellen in Boston. According to the 1920 Census they were living in South Boston at 673 Second Street. David was 32, a 1905 immigrant, and he worked as a clerk for NHRA. He was naturalized in 1910. Ellen was born about 1867 in Ireland, immigrated in 1900 and was naturalized in 1910. At the time there were no children, and I have not found them in the 1910 census. It is quite possible that David is part of my Roche family.

HELP! Have limited info on this family and have begun to search in earnest!

Know that Patrick Roche of Castle Street in 1881, died April9, 1887 at age 45 and was buried in St. Mary's Catholic graveyard. Patrick was a grocer. When and where he was born or the names of his parents are a mystery that we are attempting to solve.

Patrick was married to Mary Maginnis (Maginness) but don't know when or where? The Maginnis (Maginness) line is another mystery?

We know that Patrick was the father of John Maginnis Roche born July 29, 1879 Newry, Down, according to his birth certificate which is in our possession. John emigrated to USA in late 1800 or early 1900. He became a citizen. He married Catherine Frawley of Canada and they ar borth buried in Orilla, Canada.

If other info that we located is correct, John Maginnis had 2 older sisters, Mary and Maggie (Margaret). We believe that we have found birth info on Margaret born Jan 11, 1878 in County Down. And, if what limited family lore that has been shared, John had a brother called Felix who became and died as a gangster in Chicago around the 1930's?

John Maginnis Roche is husband's grandfather. He sired 4 children, Mary Patricia, Nicholas, Thomas D'Arcy and Katherine, all of whom are deceased. We have info on them and their families.

We would apprecaite any and all information or leads where we might find further info to aid our search attempts. It will be a couple of more years before we set foot on the Emerald Isle as retirement is just that closed.

Does any in the Newry/Down area know of a reputable researcher or research firm whom we might hire to do some digging?

Please feel free to e-mail us at Roche1131@aol.com.

Thanks for reading this and have a great day!
