My grandpa was Joseph Thomas Roddy Sr. of Galves,Louisiana,he married Elmie Lambert. I have traced my root's from Louisiana to Ireland. My research stopped at Edward Roddy born ABT. 1725 in Ireland. He was Married to Brigita Boughan. They had one child- Richard Roddy, born 1756 also in Ireland. Richard married Marie Clark. I would like to know if anyone know's what part of Ireland these families came from. Also, what boat they came to the States on. Who was the first Roddy to come from Ireland to Louisiana. What part of Louisiana? Does anyone know of an webb sight for some history on the Roddy name? Thank you.

Harvey Roddy of TN (Rhea County)

I am researching Harvey Roddy who married Martha Boulton in Rhea County, TN in 1838. Harvey was born circa 1817 and died circa 1898 in Rhea County. His parents are unknown, but some believe he is the son of Isaac Roddy. I know that Isaac married Mary Martin in 1821 and moved to Arkansas and later to Caldwell Texas, but have not been able to find a marriage to a first wife. If it occurred it would have been in Jefferson or Hamblen County, Tennessee.

I am in the progress of building a web page dedicated to the gathering of information about Harvey Roddy in hopes that if we all pool our information the pieces will somehow come together on who the parents of Harvey and his wife Martha were. If you would like to contibute or have any information to share, please email me at teresab@earthlink.net.

I'll post the website address when I get it up later this week.

Thanks,
Teresa

Isabella RODDY, born ~ 1844, Rockford TN

My step mother has me on a search to find this ancestor and to somehow tie her to Cherokee blood. Well, I have been locating her in the census records (1850, 1870, etc.) and have her marrying a father of 3 children, James SHAVER, in Blount County, TN. (daughter Lillian SHAVER later marries Wm ROACH in TN, hence my step-mothers interest)

I have no idea how to find out her Indian heritage though, if any. Anyone have any data on these surnames in this area and time frame? Also, anyone that has a clue on how to make the tie to the 'Cherokee Nation" (or other) if there is such documentation or data available for this era.

Thanks in advance!!

William Silverthorn
San Diego

I have Roddy's from around the Londonderry area. They are in County Tyrone but the northern area near the next county. I think they were near Donemanagh (Dunnamanagh). Matilda Roddy married an Alexander. They were my great great grandparents. They lived in Fawney.

Helen Jenkins

Margaret Roddy of Blount Co., TN

Margaret Roddy, d/o James Roddy & Ann Cowan, married John Wheeler about 1812. We have seen info that she was previously married to David Haston. There is a problem with this theory since both families were having children at the same time.

We now believe these were two different Margaret Roddy's, but are unsure of the info on either. If anyone has information to help sort this out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Carlene
Missouri Ozarks

My great grandfather/mother (John Dominic Roddy and Mary Elizabeth Welsh/Walsh) immigrated from Ireland sometime after their marriage in 1882/3(?). We found them in the 1885 census records of Elm Creek Nebraska. Sometime after that they moved to Idaho and homesteaded in the Crystal Idaho area. They also changed the spelling of the name from Roddy to Reddy. I'm trying to locate information on their Irish roots in Ireland. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am hoping someone can shed some light on a Roddy a ran across. I found a Patrick Roddy listed on the 1788 Tax Assessment list of Quemahoning Twp (then in Bedford Co, PA now in Somerset Co, PA). I also found a Patrick Roddy, son of a Rachel Roddy listed as a legatee in 1777 in a will of Edward Goar of Londonderry Twp, Lancaster Co, PA(Rachel is also listed as executor). Not sure if this is the same one or not but I am curious to know if anyone has come across this Patrick in Quemahoning again? Thanks!

~Jill Roddy

James D. Roddy b. 1856 poss TN

Have been searching for info on my g grandmother's family for a long time. Her name is Martha E. (Mattie) Roddy b. July 1877, Rhea co, TN. She married my g grandfather John Frank Bishop, (1874-1955) 4 July 1896, Rhea Co, TN. Recently found the following info:

1880 Rhea co census, James D. Roddy(e) age 24 lives in district 6 with no wife but two children, Samuel age 4, Martha E. age 2.

On 19 Sept 1875 in Rhea Co, James D. Roddy(e) married Anna Graves.

Believe this is my g grandmothers family but want to make sure. Because this couple (James and Anna) appear in no other census reports. Anna must have died/disappeared after Martha E. was born and before 1880 census.

Willing to exchange info. JBishop538@aol.com

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any info on these people:
Elizabeth Heaston:. Born, before 1783, in Dunmore Co, (now
Page Co), VA. Census: 1783, in Shenandoah Co, (Page Co), VA.
Relocated: circa 1785, in Washington Co, TN. She married
William Thompson, 1 Nov 1802, in Washington Co, TN.

The info about William Thompson is incorrect, I found the following:

Washington Co Marriages 1788-1840

HOUSTON, Elizabeth marr. RODDEY,James on 21-DEC-1793

Knox Co Marriages

RODDY, Betsy marr.
COX, James on 09-APR-1801

So - Betsey Heaston/Houston was first married to James Roddey and then to James Cox. Can you send me more info on this family? Sherry

Rhodes & Roddy's of Terrebonne Parish, LA

We (myself and another person) are seriously researching Rhodes & Roddy's of Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. My mother's (maiden name) is Rhodes while my friend who I am working with is a Roddy. We have had "loads of trouble" with the parents of Thomas Rhodes married to Heloise Bergeron in 1812. We feel that previous studies have "assumed" that this Thomas was "some other Thomas who came from GA" and not a son (or nephew ?) of Richard Roddy and Marie Clark,
the ancestors of the Roddy's of our Lousiana parish. We feel that the families are one and the same but, if we accept the current " interpretation of records", they would probably not be. Both the Rhodes and Roddy's ended up in the tiny town of Montegut, LA, and married among the same Cajun families there. Any ideas on this would be appreaciated. Thanks, Sue Ellen
