I am trying to identify the family of William Robert
Roscoe, a coal miner, living in William Street,
Pendleton in 1895.
I think that he may be the William
Roscoe, born about 1959, and son of George
Roscoe born about 1836 and living at 194 Whit
Lane,
Pendleton at the time of the 1881 census. George was a widow in 1881, but in the 1871 census, the family may be listed under the name of
Boscoe (sic). His wife in 1871 is called Loyce (may be spelling error), and there are also sons
Abramo and
Leish. Someone has suggested that this may be a family of Jewish origin, but I am not sure.
Any information would be appreciated. There appear to be a number of
Roscoe families in the area, all with similar names.
Thanks
