Just FYI Eugenia Sequin (38yrs) married Lewis Roy (52yrs) both of Clyde, Cloud Co Ks 2 June 1900. This was the first marriage for both of them. It states that Eugenia's dad is Frances X Sequin. The mother's name is very hard to read but last name looks like Eber or Eler.

I'm working my way through my in-law's pictures, trying to bring order for them. My mother-in-law's 2nd cousin is Joseph Francis Seguin, 1913-1968. He is the son of Joseph Anthony Seguin and Blanche Perrault Seguin. They were married in Wasco County, Oregon, but Joseph Francis was born in Chehalis, Lewis, Washington. Is there anyone who recognizes Joseph?
Happily in Christ,
Harlene

I'm working my way through my husband's grandfather's photo's. His last name was Rondeau. His mother was Selanise Seguin Rondeau. The picture I have reads (on the back): Carol Ann Seguin - Age 6 1/2 ------ Made her ---- Communion May 28th, 1946. The front has the date and her name. I'm curious who this darling little girl's parents were. Our family was in Marion County (Gervais area), Oregon during that time frame. I don't know if little Carol Ann is from the same area or not.

Thanks in advance for any information or clues you might have.
I did not look at the image. But, if you are speaking of the Francoise Seguin married 18 Sep 1786, she married Joseph Denoyon s/o Joseph Denoyon and Marie-Josephte Huet.

Chris

Hi List,
I am looking at a Marriage on the Pilot Site, http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start , and would like to get a better idea of what the groom's surname is. It looks like Joseph Denoyou and I don't think that's right. I can't figure out any other spelling at the moment. He is marrying Francoise Seguin.
The image is Boucherville, Ste. Famille de Boucherville; 1781-1795, image # 82. It is the last event on right page, M 10.
I tried looking at father's name in the document and that didn't help. The image is clear but I'm not sure of surname because of handwriting.
Thanks for your help.
Sue macduff@embarqmail.com
Peter Seguin in Chesterfield, Essex County NY info please

I am trying to trace my 3rd great grandmother, Julia Seguin's parents. I have ruled out 2 other possibilities as her father.
I have found another possibility in the following census:
--------
1860 Chesterfield, Essex County, NY
Peter Seguin (Sequin) age 43 Lower Canada
Matilda age 43 Lower Canada
Elizabeth age 8 NY
Francis age 7 NY
Matilda age 4 NY
Julia age 1 NY
Joseph age 9 NY
-----------
1870 Chesterfield, Essex County, NY
Peter Signa (Transcribed wrong) age 53 about 1817 Canada
Mary age 38 1832
Freddy age 7 about 1863
Nellie age 4 about 1866
George age 3 about 1867
Joe Pava age 14 about 1856
Leander Pava age 11 about 1859
Peter Pava age 19 about 1851
Julia Pava age 17 about 1853
Matilda Signa age 14 about 1856
Frank Signa age 17 about 1835
-----------
Now I realised that Matilda (& daughter Julia) must have passed away and he married Mary Pava. Upon searching I found her name to be PARO, not Pava.
--------
1850 Ausable, Clinton County, NY
Peter Paro
Mary Paro
---------
1860 Chesterfield, Essex County, NY
Peter Paro age 31 NY
Mary age 27 Lower Canada
Juliette age 6 NY
Esmel age 4 NY
Leander age 1 NY
-------------
Now I have written down fromthe Iroquois County, Illinois Marriage Records the following:
--------
September 4, 1874
Louis J Ducat age 26 of Chebanse
License # 1669
Julia Seguin age 16 of Chebanse
WITH THE CONSENT OF FOSTER FATHER
Married September 6, 1874
Charles Gonant, Catholic Priest from Chebanse.
----------
So I am thinking that Julia Seguin is actually Julia Paro using the Seguin name. Listed on her death certificate is father Peter Seguin. No mother.
-----------
I would appreciate any info that can help me sort this all out.
Cindy

I am searching for more info on Francis Seguin (and his wife Matilda). They may be my 4th great grandparents. I beleive he went by Peter except on important documents. Here is were I have found him in census:
1850 Ausable, Clinton County, New York
Francis age 35 born Canada about 1815
Matilda age 34 born Canada about 1816
Francs age 10 born New York about 1840
Nelson age 7 born New York about 1843
Frederick age 4 born New York about 1846
Jane age 1 born New York about 1849
Mary Ann age 68 born Canada about 1782

1860 Bourbonnais, Kankakee County, Illinois
Francis SEQUIN age 44 Canada about 1816
Matilda age 43 Canada about 1817
Franklin age 20 born New York about 1840
Nelson age 16 born New York about 1844
Frederick age 15 born New York about 1845
Jane age 13 born New York about 1847
George W. age 11 born New York about 1849
Julia age 10 born Illinois about 1850
John H (Henry in other census) age 8 born IL about 1852
Adolphus age 5 born IL about 1855
Mary E (Eugenia) age 1 born IL about 1859
Mary Anne age 85 born Canada about 1775
Judit Poventio age 77 born Canada about 1783 (female)
Adaline Mercy age 17 born New York about 1843
NOTE: Mary Ann age 85 must be Francis' mother
NOTE: Judit Poventio is Matilda's mother according to a tree in Ancestry.com. The name should be spelled Judith Parenteau. Judith's maiden name is LaVelle.

1870 Bourbonnais, Kankakee County, Illinois
Francese Seguin age 55 born Canada about 1815
Mathilda age 54 born Canada about 1816
Frank age 28 NY about 1842
Nelson age 21 NY about 1842
Ella Mercer age 6 IL about 1864
G W age 18 IL about 1852
Julie age 16 IL about 1854
Hnery age 14 IL about 1856
Adolphus age 12 IL about 1858
Eugene age 8 IL about 1862

1880 West Clifton, Washington County, Kansas
Matilda age 61 widow born Canada about 1819
Eugena age 18 daughter born IL about 1862
Adolph age 23 son born IL about 1857

1880 Strawberry, Washington County, Kansas
Henry born 1855 IL
wife Mary born IL about 1856
daughter Laura born Kansas about 1879

My 3rd great grandmother is Julia Seguin who has a Peter listed as her father's name on her death certificate, no mother mentioned. There is no Peter in the Kankakee or Iroquois County, Illinois area. I think her father was Francis and he went by Peter.
She married September 6, 1874 in Iroquois County (the county below Kankakee) to Louis Joseph Ducat. She died in Chicago on April 21, 1917 in Lakeside Hospital. She is buried without a tombstone in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Can anyone connect with this Francis and place him in their family tree. Or does anyone have any info on him other than what I have here?
Cindy

I have removed the Peter and Catherine Brochuire as my Julia's parents. Upon reading other message board replies I find that the Julia of this couple married someone else.
I am leaning to a Francis or Francese Seguin and wife Matilda who were living in Bourbonnais, Kankakee County Illinois in 1860 and 1870 as being her parents. I fell he must have had Peter in his given name or was simply a nickname. That is the only explanation I can find. Now I have to find info to back it up. They had a Julia but her birth dates vary from census year to census year. I am trying to find Julia Sguin Ducat's obituary to see if her parents are mentioned. As her death certificate just mentions Peter as her father.

I was all set to tell you where Julia Seguin went. Then you went and found a completely different one.
Now I am totally confused. I have the death certificate of a Julia Seguin Ducat. She was born October 2, 1858 in New York and her father was Peter Sequin. The mother's name is blank. So all my info hooking up my Julia to Catherine Brochuire and other various spellings is all wrong.
I guess this explains why I could never figure out how Julia could be in New York with her parents and yet married to her husband Louis Joseph Ducat in the 1880 census of Iroquois County Illinois.
So there has to be another Peter Seguin family that came from New York and moved to Iroquois County Illinois area. I just have not found them yet.
Cindy

In searching for my Seguin line from France to Canada, I have run into 2 lines. I'm hoping someone can enlighten me and connect these Seguins.

According to PRDH record #93316, my 7X greatgrandmother, Marguerite Seguin, was the daughter of Francois Seguin and Simone Verret. Marguerite was b- 24 Sep 1644, France and was married to Etienne Proteau. She died in Charlesbourg 18-Feb-1702. Her father Francois, was born in Paris, France about 1611 and died 09 May 1704 in Montreal, Canada. Her mother Simone Verret, b- abt 1620 in France.

My second line is through Francois Seguin b-04 Jul 1744 and Jeanne Petit, m- 31 Oct 1672 in Boucherville. This Francois' parents were Laurent Seguin, b- abt 1621 in France, and Marie Mossieu.

The 1744 Francois is in the same dated area as 1744 Marguerite. Is her father, (abt.1611) Francois a brother of (abt.1621) Laurent?

Does anyone have information to share on these families?

Thank you.

Canada to Black Brook, Clinton Co., NY

Seeking relations to and information about Alexander Seguin [Sawyer] and Amelia Julia Amell (father D. Lamelle), born in Canada in the late 1820's to early 1830's, who migrated to Black Brook, and Keeseville, New York. Alexander reportedly died 3-18-1886 of typhoid fever in Au Sable Forks, NY. A local newspaper, the Plattsburgh Sentinel (1929), reports that Amelia died 9-29-1926 and the probate of her will by her son-in-law, Louis Bombard. I am aware of 12 children, all of whom took the Anglicanized version of Seguin [Sawyer]: Phoebe who m. Mathais Eurbin; Emelie Amelia b. 1853 who m. Moyse Labombard; Margaret b. 1854 who may have m. Dr. RJ Bombard; Angeline b. 1855; Alex b. 1858; Louis E. b. 1862 who m. Margaret 'Maggie' Vassar b. 1872; Marie b. 5-17-1864 and m. a Duprey; Ludovica b. 9-4-1866; John b. 11-1-1868 m. Mary Thibault; Eleanore 'Ellen' b. 6-26-1870 m. Jesse Vassar; Phillip William b. 1871 m. Orzilla Bourrette; and Melinda b. abt. 1862 m. a Monty. My line descends from their son, Louis E., and his daughter, Bollea May Sawyer. They may have originated from the Quebec area, where there are a lot of Seguin's and variations thereof.

I found Alexandre's birth record and verified the date with his entry in the 1901 Census of Canada - January 18, 1831, son of Alexis Daoust and Louise Piegon. The birth dates for both Felicite & Alexandre have been a family mystery, but these documents (attached) confirm his date of birth, and thankfully, the names of his parents.

I found Félicité's baptismal record (on this website). She was baptized on March 8, 1820 at Ste-Rose-de-Lima in Laval, Québec. Her parents are François and Marie-Josephe Desjardins. Conflicting age info in her death records. Burial record from St. Andrew's says she was 76 years old (making her birth year 1818), but the Ontario death index record says she was 70. I also located her marriage record to Alexandre Daoust at St. Patrick's Church, Hogansburg, NY on October 16, 1852. Their first son Joseph was born there as well. I'm still researching Alexandre. your cousin, Madeleine

The Jean N Seguin you speak of is actually Colonel Juan Nepomuceno Seguin who played a role in the Battle of the Alamo and later became Governor and was also a senator (he was also Spanish).

Juan's mother however had some sort of French roots: Here is a website linking the French connection to the Spanish:

http://www.seguinfamilyhistory.com/guillaum.html

I know this because Colonel Siguin is the cousin of General Ignacio Siguin Zaragoza, who I am related to as a Zaragoza.

General Zaragoza's father married to a Maria de Jesus Seguin. (If anyone has any information on Maria Seguins family, I would be interested in it, as I am working on my family tree.)

I hope you do not forget the Spanish connection here to the name, because in your story, the Colonel's name is changed to Jean - which would indicate that the story had been passed down from generation to generation and got mixed up.

Maybe some Seguins were embarrased of the Spanish roots? As Colonel Seguin later was hated by some. Why? You'll have to do the research.

1641 - Guillaume Seguin, Gevauden,,Paris, France To: Aquascalientes, New Spain
1712 - Santigo Seguin, Tejas, New Spain, 1722 - Bartolome Seguin
1754 - Jose Santiago Seguin, San Fernando de Bexar,Tejas, New Spain
1782 - Juan Jose Maria Erasmo de Jesus Seguin, San Fernando de Bexar, Tejas, New Spain
1806 - Juan Nepomuceno Seguin, San Fernando de Bexar, Texas, New Spain
1829 - Jose Erasmo Seguin, San Antonio, Texas

The Juan N. Seguin Burial Site is located in the Juan N. Seguin Memorial Park Plaza in Seguin Texas. Please visit the site, it was dedicated in 1976. The Flag poles were donated and dedicated in 1995. There are future plans for the expansion and beautification of the Juan N. Seguin Memorial Park Plaza. To be included in this project is a life size statue of the Colonel on horseback and the Col. will be pointing in the direction of The San Jacinto Battlefield, the historic battle in which Texas won her freedom and independence, and became The Republic of Texas. There are also ongoing plans to brick in the area around the flag poles with monogrammed bricks to be donated by the Seguin and related families.
My grandfather was Peter Joseph Seguin. He was also from Ellenburgh. Most of my family still resides in Ellenburgh. i know my granfather had a brother named Herbert I'm not quite sure of the others though. If any of this ties in I'd greatly appreciate any information.
Alpena, MI Seguin and Corriveau and Monette families

I'm hoping someone can help me fill in my family tree. I'm the great granddaughter of Phillip Seguin of Alpena and his wife Leontine Corriveau of Alpena.

The information I have so far is Leontine's parents were Philias Corriveau and Exilda Bleu of Ottawa.

As far as the Seguin family goes, Phillip's parents were Amadee Joseph and Lea Monette.

If anyone has any further information, I'd love to hear from you. I have histories on all of Phillip and Leontine's children.

Thanks!

I believe I know who Joseph Norman(d) was and Mary Seguin was likely his wife Marie Jeanne-Chantale Seguin. The following note I received from a fellow Seguin researcher some time back may explain why Joseph and Mary had the opportunity to attend your ancestors' wedding. This is the note I have on Joseph Norman:

Joseph Normand has been extremely hard to locate. He was a day laborer at farms and spent much of his time moving his family around in search of work. He was enumerated in the 1860 Madrid, St. Lawrence Co., New York census but subsequently left New York. His family left Madrid, New York prior to 1865 because they were enumerated in the 1865 Madrid, St. Lawrence Co., New York census. It is my belief that the family left New York prior to the start of the Civil War because they felt it was not their fight, nor their country to be involved in the fight. Joseph Normand and his family were enumerated in the 1871 St. Anicet, Huntingdon Co., Québec census. I believe that Joseph Normand and Chantal Sequin stayed in the St. Anicet area until their deaths. Chantal Sequin died in 1875 and her burial record was located in the Ste. Agnes de Dundee parish registers in Huntingdon Co., Québec.

It is possible that Joseph was a neighbor or an employee or a fellow worker of your gg grandparents?

Sorry I have no further information on you Abraham or Sarah.

My name is Mark Seguin, Isaic Seguin and Melindee Rouleau are my Great Grandparents. My Grandfather was Edward Joseph Seguin. I'm not sure when Isaic and Melindee
moved to Massachusetts but I do know that Melindee died in
during childbirth on May 9, 1896 and is buried in St. Bernard's Cemetary located in Fitchburg Massachusetts. After Melindee died Isaic remarried to Mary Facteau
either in late 1897 or 1898 at West Boylston, Massachusetts.
I am currently researching documents and hope to have more information soon. My Father who has passed away did mention
some of the names you listed, they were Joseph, Arthur and
Albert, but I don't remember any others. From what I understand the family split after Isaic remarried and the
children from Melinde were raised in Fitchburg by Isaic's brother Joseph. I would like to know where Isaic and Mary went. The last entry of Isaic in the Fitchburg Register was "removed to New York", but gave no exact location. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Mark R Seguin
seguin@mcmxxx@charter.net
