Elizabeth Shook +GW Keth/Ditty April 23 1859 Pa

Looking for info on Elizabeth. She was 2nd wife of George Washington Keth/Ditty. Ditty being his step dad's name and he went by it sometimes.

For the Keth/Ditty family, the 1860 census has Washington Ditty (George W. Keth apparently stood for George Washington Keth), 38, living in Toby Twp., Clarion Co. with his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Shook, listed as Elizabeth Ditty, 25. The children from his lst marr to Eliza Smathers have already been split up among various local families. The Keth name is also spelled Keath and Keith in various census records.

Would like to find her parents and if her and George had chidren, any leads are helpful, thanks kindly

George W Keth Dec 20 1843 b abt 1823 d 1862 CW Pa
+1Elizabeth Caroline Smathers b Sep 18 1821(JACOB SMATHERS, CHRISTIAN SR, JACOB SR, WILLIAM SMITHER1PA)d Nov 12 1858
George is buried in Licking Lutheran and Reformed Church cemetery, Churchville, Monroe Twp., Clarion County
had 9 kids some went to Australia so said.

My guess is that George was just so young when his mother married James Ditty that it was natural for him to use the same name as the rest of the family. (I have no idea who George's real father was.) George was born May 21, 1821 and his eldest half-brother, William Ditty, was born Aug. 31, 1826. My real question is why George and his son Alex went back to Keth for enlistment during the Civil War. No idea! His children generally went by Keth, though there were a few still going by Ditty in earlier census records.

1850 Porter Twp., Clarion County PA
she was with her husband, then going by his stepfather's surname:
George W. Ditty, 27, labourer (?)
Eliza, 26, so the date of birth isn't perfect b abt 1824
Alexander, 6 b abt 1844
William, 4 b abt 1846
John, 2 b abt 1848
Lavina, 1 b abt 1849
1860: Levinna Ditty, 12, servant in the household of Daniel and Eve Vomeldorf, Porter Twp., Clarion Co. PAlisted as "moved to Australia" in Alex's willOddly, a Lavina Keth is buried next to George W. Keth!

Eliza is clearly designated as a Smathers in pension files for George's children.
(George died in 1862, as a result of his service in the 103rd Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers.)

"I have known George W. Keth whom was a half Brother of mine from my infancy up to his death July 31, AD 1862 a period of 35 to 40 years nearly. have known Eliza Smathers his first wife from their marriage Dec.20" 1843 up to her death Nov. 12th 1858. knew of them living together as man and wife during all that time and they were the Father and mother of the claimant Nancy L. Reigle and allso (sic) George W. Keth and Eliza Smathers where (sic) never married before they married each other."
William Ditty JP, aged 81 Past, July 3, 1908

[might be Wm Ditty above ??]
1880 United States Census
Name: William Ditty Residence: Lewisburg, Union, Pennsylvania Birth date: 1814 Birth place: Ireland
Relationship to head-of-household: Self Spouse name: Ellen Ditty Spouse birth place: Ireland Father birth place: Ireland Mother birth place: Ireland Race (Term on Certificate): White Ethnicity: American Gender: Male Marital status: Married Age: 66 years Occupation: Farmer
NARA film number: T9-1197 Page: 502 Page letter: D Entry number: 518 Film number: 1255197
Vess Shook's father - unknown - mother is Martha

I don't know Uncle Vess's father's name. His mother, Martha, married him when she was 18 and he must have died shortly after. She remarried George Hamilton (my great great grandfather) but I don't know when. I am also looking for any of Vess's siblings as they may lead me to his father. Martha was born abt 1859 and was married abt 1876. There were other children from her 2nd marriage - Wade Shook, George Hamilton Jr, Margaret Shook, Martha Hamilton & Joe Shook. I don't know her maiden name. Her 2nd husband wanted to join the military and could not enlist under Hamilton. He changed his name to Shook (her first married name) and enlisted that way. The family legend is Uncle Vess helped him do it. He never changed it back because Granny would have lost her benefits. Can anyone help me!!!

My g-grandmother, Barbara Catherine Shook (b. 7/25/1856 in Statesville, Iredell Co.,NC), was the daughter of Miles W. Shook(b.1828) and Antha Minerva(?)
Jefferson SHOOK, Darke County Ohio 1830-1860

I'm working the ancestry of Jefferson SHOOK and would appreciate hearing anything you have on someone by this name: his parents, siblings, children and their spouses. Here's what I have:

Jefferson Shook (b. Jul. 11, 1802; d. Jun. 28, 1875) m.
Mary Winbigler (b. Jun. 22, 1807; d. Oct. 18, 1853) on
May 29, 1827. Jefferson was born in Maryland and married Mary there, near Hagerstown, Frederick County, Maryland [Gause]. They may have immigrated via Pennsylvania but
moved to Ohio prior to 1830: a "Jefferson Shuck" is listed in the Jefferson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio 1830 census [p. 235]. Jefferson and Mary settled in York Township, Darke County, Ohio where they are listed in the 1840 and 1850 censuses [Grant]. His occupation is given as that of a blacksmith. Mary passed away and is buried in
Brock Cemetery in Darke County. Only their youngest daughter Harriet lived with "J. Shook" in the York Township, Darke County 1860 census listing, his occupation then being given as a grocery keeper. When he died, Jefferson was residing with his youngest son Samuel in Indiana [Gause]. Their children included [Allen, Gause]:
- John Shook (b. c1829) m. Lydia ? in 1850
- Mahala Shook (b. Jan. 11, 1831; d. May 15, 1895) m. Dayton Irelan Nov. 28, 1850 and had eight children.
- Mary Shook (b Feb. 29 1832; d. Mar. 5, 1902), never married
- Susan Shook (b. c1833)
- Catharine Shook (b. 1837)
- Samuel R. Shook (b. Jan. 27, 1839; d. Nov. 16, 1917)
- Elizabeth Shook (b. 1841)
- Malinda Shook (b. 1844)
- Harriet Shook (b. 1846)

Samuel R. Shook married Rosetta Stevens (b. Oct.14, 1854; d. 1935) on Dec. 18, 1873 in Grant County, Indiana. He is my wife's g-g-grandfather.

Shook-Williams family in southwestern Arkansas early 1800s

I'm looking for more info on the Williams and Shook families of southwestern Arkansas. Reverend Jacob Shook, who came to Arkansas about 1819-1820, was a Methodist preacher. His son John Shook married Susan Williams---a daughter of Captain John W. Williams of KY, who came to AR in 1830s. John Shook & his wife lived in the 1830s about 7 to 8 miles east of Old Washington in Hempstead County AR at the Marlbrook community. It is also written in the local history book SAM WILLIAMS: PRINTER'S DEVIL that the first court ever held in Hempstead County in 1819 was in the log home at the farm where John W. Williams (then or eventually?) lived. This first seat of justice and court was presided over by Stephen F. Austin, who was Territorial Judge at this time.

I'd like to particularly find out more about the Williams line, as one of my GGG-Grandmothers was Melinda Williams. Note that research has shown that John Shook's wife Susan Williams was probably related to my Melinda Williams because Susan's bible has Melinda's children listed, including Charlotte Howard. Melinda Williams had married Bridges Howard in LA in 1826 and they came to the Hempstead County AR area in about the 1830s-1840s. Melinda & Bridges Howard had daughter Charlotte Howard, who is my direct line.

If anyone has more info on these lines, please respond.

Looking for any information on a Thelma Shook (b. 1916) and Catherine Shook (b. 1918) as listed on the 1920 Bingham Co., ID census with their mother Letha Shook, and grandparents James Garrett Buckner and Mary Jane Parks Buckner. The Buckners born in AR with Thelma and Catherine in ID.
In 1930 Freida Shook (b. 1921 ID) is listed in Skagit Co., WA with her grandparents, the Buckners. Information given me is that George S. Shook is the father. Letha said on the 1920 census she was married but husband not there and maybe Letha and George have both died by 1930. Freida did live with her grandparents until their death. J. G. Buckner died in Skagit Co. but Mary Jane probably died near Everett WA.
Would like to make connections with family.

She married a John Jacob Holzapfel and lived in Toledo, Ohio and then settled in Nashville, TN. Minnie Shook died in May 1919. Jacob & Minnie Shook Holzapfel had four children: Louis J., John J, Johanna Dora and Frederick Ernest.

I was told by my grandmother that Minnie traveled with sisters to America. No one could ever remember the sisters names.

Please contact me if you have a connection or if any of these names sound familiar.

Thanks!

Hi Elieen. Thanks for info on my Uncle Elijah and Aunt Lucille. They had two sons S. R. and Edgar. Edgar died at a pretty young age, I can look that up if you would like. S. R. was married with one child. He also died pretty young. They are also are buried in the same place. They lived in Mountain View and my uncle owned a chevy dealership. As you know David died in 1906. Amanda lived with her daughter Emma and her second husband in the 1910 census. Oscar Allen. Her son by her first husband,Ranza Triplet. There were other children, if you need their names I wil get them. I don't remember a lot of the relatives. I will ask my brother and let you know. I forgot to add a David to Stephens children. I show David in the 1880 census in Iowa. His and Amanda's children were Stepen, Emma, Martha, Myrtle. I have seen another document that had a Prudence on it. Stephen is listed in the 1920 census, married to May, my step-grandmother. They had two children S.A and Ivey. Ask any questions you want I will try to answer.

I suspect that the name was originally schook and was at some point shortened. can anyone enlighten me? thank you

I have recently been given copies of pictures from an old album belonging to Mary Ann Oliver Cluverius. Mary Ann was the sister of my greatgrandmother, Mahala Ellen Oliver Allen. They were the daughters of James Oliver and Hannah Raines. If any of you have old pictures, we'd like to compare and see if we can identify some of these. Two of them are identified as Mariah Oliver Floyd, sister of Mary Ann and Hannah, and Sally Musidora Cluverius who was the daughter of Mary Ann Oliver and Atwood Cluverius. The one of Mariah was made in Blanco, TX.There is another of a young woman and written on the back is "Taken at Golconda, Pope County, Illinois. 12/20/1898, From Silla(n) to Mrs. Mary Cluverius. Some of those unidentified are made in Shelbyville, Tennessee, Nashville, Tennessee, and Gainesville, Texas. Other sisters were Sarah Ann Oliver Stone & Louisa Margaret Oliver Stone Shook.

I have discovered my family! I am the daughter of Ralph Marion John Shook He is nearly 90. My grandfather was Ralph Ambros Shook. My great-grandfather was Marion Wesley Shook. The divorce of my parents in 1952 when my mother took me to California, seperated me from my Dad's side of the family. Until recently I knew nothing about them. I would love to hear from anyone related to me. I grew up feeling very much like an orphan. I missed out on having aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins to grow up with. I understand there is a reunion every year. I would love to meet all of you!
