Dear Nancy,
I am most interested in learning the lines of Vasili Pavel Sakrekoff and Lucretta Sebastianovna Cheechov, and read where you could go back a few more levels.
I would be most interested in knowing if there is any relationship to Irene J Cheechov the husband of William Bolotin, she was buried in the Russian Sectarian Cemetary. I am also interested in going back in their lines, I believe she died in Santa Rosa area abt 1939.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Tim

Nancy - My g-grandmother and grandmother came to America via Ellis Island in 1913. I have had their names placed on the plaque there to commemorate their immigration. I have all their immigration documentation, unfortunately it is all in Russian, which I don't read or speak. They settled in the Potrero Heights district also for a short time. They lived in Kerman for a while before moving to Los Angeles. I have also looked at the online info on the Molokon church. My grandmother is buried in the Russian Cemetary on Slauson Ave. in Commerce, CA. Are you in California? Chris

Re: Shubin

I'm related indirectly. Some Poppin family members married Sohrakoff, Soriakoff, Sakrekoff, etc. Paul Paul Sakrekoff md. Anna Jack Haprov (my cousin by marriage sister). Paul's father is Paul William Sakrekoff (md. Susie Ivan Berukoff). Paul William's brother is Michael William. His father is Vasili Pavil Sakrekoff (md. Lucretta Sebastianovna Cheechov). I can go back a few more levels.

Another reason why I'm interested is that I've been researching the Russian Molokans for many years. My grandparents were born in Kars, Russia and came to America in 1911. The lived in San Francisco on Potrero Hill. There was a group of Molokans who lived in Los Angeles. I've been posting information on the Russian Molokan message board for many years and have open communication with other Shubin family members and a few other researchers such as myself who wish to preserve the Russian Molokan history in memory of our ancestors. If you visit the Molokan message board, you will find obituaries, marriage information, immigration and military records. There is also a website for the Molokans and just recently photos of Russian Molokan headstones from various cemeteries. I uploaded about 700 from the Russian Sectarian Cemetery in Colma CA. I've also posted well over a thousand obituaries.

The message board is at
http://boards.ancestry.com/topics.religious.molokan/mb.ashx

So.........you can see I have a great interest in connecting the various families together. It is vital we keep this information open and available to family members who wish to trace their ancestors.

I'd be most interested in sharing information with you and you can possibly provide additional information that I do not have.

My email is heisable2@comcast.net.

Nancy (Poppin) Posey

Hi Jack....I received notification that someone answered the query from Kristina.

I show Andrew Peter Varonin was married to someone with the initials of 'SN' after Mary's death. I found it on the CADI record for his death. Do you know when Mary died? I show Approx. 1920. As you may already know, I'm active on the Molokan message board. I've been researching the San Francisco Molokans from Potrero Hill. My grandparents lived on The Hill. During my research I kept adding on to the various families and eventually started collecting information of any them. George and Bill have also kept files chronicling the families.

If you have the information for Andrew's family, would you mind sharing? You can email me at heisable2@comcast.net. I can also share with you what I have.

Interesting that your family used to be Novikoff. Why did they change the name? My first cousin is Fae Papin Veronin.

Nancy Poppin Posey

I am the great grandson of William Jacob Shubin who emmigrated to Los Angeles in 1910 from Russia. He and his family were part of the Molokon emmigration at that time. He passed away in 1967 I believe. My grandmother is Vera and is still alive. I am very interested in finding anyone that may have information on the emmigration or any knowledge of any traces back into Russia as well.

My great grandparents came through Galveston, TX and then on to Los Angeles, they were accompanied by his father and brothers. I remember my grandmother talking about an uncle that was her age or just a little older but I need to go back through the records to get the names straight.

I know that for a short time, around 1915 or so, that they relocated to Spokane, WA for a few years, then moved back down to the LA area for good. I will pull my data together and come up with some of the other names, including some of the families that my great-aunts married into.

I never attended any of the Molokon services, but did get to attend a couple of weddings, wonderful events that even though I was young (last one I attended was around age 12 or 1965) they are memories that I will never forget. I have looked up some of the Molokon history on the internet and learned a great deal, plus my grandmother passed a book along to me that is a collection of the prophetic writings. After reading about some of the beliefs and ceremonies, I talked with my grandmother about them and she recounted to me what they were really like, as in the wedding march, the funeral processions, etc. Some very interesting and facinating history.

My great grandmother was born in Nikitina, but was not Molokon, just my great grandfather was. However at the time of their emigration they were living in Moscow, family legend has it that they were the maid and the carriage man for a wealthy banker there. I keep hoping to find a few more details or threads that I might be able to follow up on.

Margie is my grandmothers sister. My grandmother is Vera, born 1912 in Los Angeles. Her parents came into the states through Galveston, Texas and arrived in Los Angeles just before she was born. They moved to spokane for a few years then came back to Los Angeles to stay. I know that among those to came the the U.S. at that time was Vera and Margies grandfather on their dads side and their uncle, their dads brother who was only a few years older than them and was pretty much raised by their parents. At least that is the story as I remember it.

I am looking for any stories, names or other information to better figure out where they were in Russia before they emigrated and what family members may have been left behind.

Margie is my grandmothers (Vera Scott) younger sister. Her other sister was June and she has a brother John. Vera is in a nursing home in San Gabriel and John lives with his wife in Montebello.

I am interested in anything that gives more information about their parents or their life in russia before they came to the US.

I have the information that they came through Galveston in 1912, one of the last of their group to emigrate. My grandmother told me that her father was Molokan, but her mother wasn't, even though she was from Nikitina, which was a stronghold for those of that faith (at least that is what I understand).

I am also interested in better understanding some of the principles and teachings of their faith so that I can better appreciate the things they did and the way they lived. I have gathered some materials from the internet and I have a book or two from my grandmother, but am always interested in learning more. I remember attending the wedding of Margies and Bills son when I was about 14 (would have been around 1966 to 1968), and I remember taking my grandmother to visit her sister, and we used to have Christmas get togethers with all the russian cousins (well my moms cousins and my second cousins).

I would enjoy anything you can share with me about family stories or traditions that you might have picked up from Bill and Margie over the years.

Chris; I think we may be distant relatives Andrew "Andy" Shubin was my Grandfathers First or second cousin. They both lived on Trinity Ave in Kerman, Ca. about 1/2 mile from each other. I knew both Andy and Nellie as a kid growing up in Kerman. Both Families raised grapes for raisins. Andy and Nellie had Three boys Nick, Abe and Walt which all Three still live in the Kerman area.

I wonder if names like Nick, Walter, Andy, Nellie are typically Russian names? These names ring a bell with me.
My grandmother, Anna Shubin, married a Susoeff (also spelled Suesov) around 1915-1920. They settled in Boyle Heights, California. She used to go to Kerman to visit when she was alive. She had several brothers, one of whom was Andrew. I seem to remember an "Aunt Nellie" who I think was an apple farmer in Sepastopol, CA (northern CA), and an uncle Nick who retired in San Mateo County. Does any of this sound familiar?
My grandmother and grandfather emigrated from Caucasus, Russia in 1905 and settled in San Pedro, CA. They were part of the Molokon emmigration. My grandfathers name was Andrew Harry Shubin, My grandmother was Elsie Butchnoff. They landed in New York and with the help of Leo Tolstoi and Peter Demansoff they applied for land grants and with the help of the railroad, got to San Pedro, Calif. This is about all I know. Hope this is helpful, also I am interested in finding out more about my relatives past. If we are somehow connected, please let me know.

Thanks

I spoke with my mom and she remembers Uncle Andy and Aunt Nellie's boys. She clarified the relationship as best as she can remember it: Andy was my mother's grandfather's brother. Her grandfather's name was Jack Shubin (Yakov). Again, that's about all I have.

Hi. My great-grandmother was Tatiana Shubin from Russia. She came over in 1912 with my grandmother Pauline who was eight months old at the time. My great-grandfather's name was Jack or Yakov. They lived in San Francisco for a while and then came to L.A. though I'm not too sure of the dates. They were Molokon also and I lived with my grandmother when I was young and attended the churches in the area. My grandmother married William Michael Sakrehoff or Sakrekov and my mother's name is Dorothy. That's about all I know.

Hi. I had a great uncle named Andrew Shubin who lived on a farm in Kerman California. I think his wife's name was Nellie. I remember visiting him there where he had grapes growing in the front yard. Went to the Molokon Church there about 1968. My grandmother's name was Pauline Shubin. She was born in Russia, came here as a baby in 1912. Her mother's name was Tatiana.
