this is the true story of the Afircan American side of the Spring Family. Col. Lero Springs had a Brother and a Sister.
the brother's name was William or Bill. William senior was white. he had a child also named William Jr. he was African Amercian. The african american son married a lady named Betty Porter. They attened. Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Fort Mill S.C. This church is located near Regency Park near the Jim Baker Heritage USA .They are also buried in the cemetary located in the back of the church grounds. This church is located less that 2 miles from the Col. Leroy Springs Home.
As the story was told to me . William Springs was hiding out in a cave during the Civil War. His son William Jr. (the African American one ) knew where he was. After the war he went to get him out of the cave. William senior looked like an old white man with long finger nails and long hair. He had been living like a hermit. William senior lived with William Jr. for a short time but later died. William Jr had over sixteen children one of which was my great grand mother Laura Springs. There was also a spitting image look alike of Col. Leroy Springs. He was my great uncle Albert Springs. He could Pass for White because he was so fair skinned. We have pictures of him in our family album. Along with Laura. Anna, Annie and Carrie. other names of the family are listed on a previous post. The African American Springs family have our family reunion every Fourth of July at Mt. Zion AME Zion church in fort Mill S.C. If you want to know any more or doubt this information just attend this Church and ask anyone and about the Springs/ Williams family.

Are you related to any Masseys or McKinneys from Waxhaw area? It looks like you may have my grandfather, Banks Massey, on your tree. He was married to Azzie Lee Cousart whose mother was Sallie McKinney

I believe I am a decendant of William Springs. His son Rassie (Razzie) Springs is my grandfather. Razzie's son is my father (William Springs). Razzie married Elizabeth Anderson (my grandmother).

My cousins (Cletus Anderson and Andrewetta Anderson) attend Mt. Zion.

I know my Grandmother (Elizabeth) is buried there as I attended her burial as a teenager. As well as other family members.

Do you have any dates of birth or death for William or Bettie

Thanks so much.

Granderson Sr. was my great great Grandfather.
Lemuel who also went by the name Samuel was my great grandfather. He married and had two sets of children one set by Amanda Mills Springs (my great grandmother)and by Elizabeth. My grandmother was Bessie Springs Melton formely of York,S.C. then later died in Charlotte in 1934.
Would you happen to have any more info on Granderson and the rests of the family?
I believe the plantion house still stands.
It is called Springfield Plantation.
I believe Andrew Baxter Springs was the slave owner.
There are many books that mention the Springs families of North and South Carolina.I found the information very interesting. For instance, Springfield Plantation was the last place that the confederates had their last meeting before the civil war ended.
