Photograph - Newton Thomas Stimson

I have a very nice 4x6 photo card labeled "Newton Thomas Stimson, Dolgeville, N.Y., July 2, 1894". The picture is of a young man, approximately 18 years old. I found the picture in a box I purchased from a thrift store a number of years ago, and would be happy to give it to someone who can trace their ancestry to this young Mr. Stimson, as he is no relation of mine.

Daniel Stimson 1810, Luther Stimson, William Henry "Harrison" Stimson, Harriet Beckwith,

My GG Grandfather is Daniel Stimson, son of Luther and Polly Evers Stimson; born 1810 in Ontario Co. NY. I have looked through all of the family trees I can find but no one has him listed there. My GGrandfather Luther Stimson wrote an article that stated who his parents were, where they were born etc. They both died along with I assume a daughter in 1840 in Loraine Co. Ohio. I found their headstone at the Jackson Family Cemetery while in Ohio researching. In the article my GGrandfather stated that as an orphan he was sent to live with his uncle William Henry "Harrison" Stimson. From there he moved to Michigan and westward to Washington State where he resided the rest of his life. I would like for someone else to verify that they might have heard of my GGGrandfather somewhere in their searches. Also his wife Harriet Beckwith is coming up as a brick wall, according to her son she was born in NY also. But I can't find any ancestors for her. Any help would be so appreciated, I would like to finally finish up this loose end I've been tackling for so long. Thank you in advance!!

Hi there, I am looking for descendents or reasearchers of the Stimson or Clark family from Sutton in Cambridgeshire. Here is what I have so far; Mary Matilda Stimson married Charles Clark in 1907. Mary Matilda's parents were Matilda Roberts and Frederick H Stimson, they had other children, John, Mabel, Martha and Jesse. They all resided at Stewards Lane in Sutton. Charles parents were Roads and Jane Clark and they resided in High Street Sutton. They also had other children, George, Mary Ann and Martha. Would e really interested to hear from anyone who has any information on these families for information sharing.

I have an oil painting done by a J.E. Stimson in CA - it was purchased on my father's birthday by his parents (lived in Berkley) when he was born in 1923. It's a painting of Green Lake in Wyoming. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Susan,

It's always satisfying to help a fellow researcher.

If, while you're connecting the dots, you come across ANDREW WASHINGTON STIMSON (sometimes indexed as Andrew H.), b. Feb 1829 Canada/English, d. bet. 1900-1910 in New Hampshire, I'd love to hear from you again. According to his US censuses, his parents were b. New Hampshire, but given the generally accepted earlier dates for the Stimson clan's arrival in QC, it may refer to his grandparents' birthplace.

Andrew md 1st Sarah (Nook) -- I find only one or two other Nooks in the QC records -- and 2nd Georgiana Ross Clark, 25 Sep 1862.

CHILDREN OF MARR #1:
George Washington b 9 Apr 1855
Celina J. b 1857
Henry N. b Aug 1859.

CHILDREN OF MARR #2:
Lizzie A. b 1863
Curtis C. b 1866
Henry R. b 1869
Ellie L. b 1871
Sidney Clark b 4 Feb 1876
Andrew C. b ? d. 15 July 1879

As near as I can figure, c. 1895 Andrew, Georgiana and one son from each marriage (#1-Henry N., #2-Sidney) moved to Grafton Co., NH.

I'm not related, but researching to help a friend who is.

Best regards,
Susan Bork

I'm not sure where it happened, but I looked through tons of Mass and Maine records at the DAR. I happened to come across a book on Limerick ME with tons of Stimson/Stimpsons in it, but nothing that linked any Emersons. That doesn't mean that maybe a daughter down the line had married an Emerson that could be my g-g-grandfather's parents.

I'm going to keep looking...it's got to be a link out there somewhere! :)

If I could only find his birth records, that would unlock so much...

I am completely stumped on my great-great grandfather,
William Stimson/Stimpson Emerson.

Born about 1873 and died in 1904. He died in Charleston, SC and his birth certificate states Waterford, ME as his place of birth, however, my great-grandmother's birth certificate states her father was born in Limerick, ME. She was born in Boston.

We have absolutely nothing on his parents or siblings. Family story has it that he left home at an early age because his family was mean and/or he got in trouble alot. My great-grandmother and her sister both stated that after their father died and after they got out of an orphanage they stayed in in SC (which was 1908 when they got out) and before they were married (around 1915)they traveled by train to Maine to see their father's family. Not sure if it was the Emersons or the Stimsons.

I do know he was in Boston in 1896 (birth of his first daughter) and was in Charleston SC in 1900 (census records and birth record of his second daughter) until his death in 1904. So from time of his birth (about 1873) to possibly 1895 he was in the Limerick or Waterford area.

Does anyone have maybe a female in their family born around 1850-ish that could have married an Emerson? Or any suggestions on where else I coudl look? I was at the DAR library and checked into Limerick ME vital records books, found plenty of Emerson and Stimpson/Stimson, but nothing connecting.
Stimson

I am searching for information on a Harriet Stimson who was born in Vermont or New Hampshire around 1800. She married Isaac Wilkins about 1836 in Canada. They had two sons, Charles Wesley and Alfred Lafayette. I only know her mother's first name which was Anna. They all died in Iowa, except Alfred. Any information would help me a lot. Thank you.

How to Subscribe to the Stimpson Mailing List

Hello,

To Subscribe to the Stimpson mailing list, this is what you do...

Send an email to Stimpson-L-request@rootsweb.com or to Stimpson-d-request@rootsweb.com if you want to join in 'Digest' mode. Digest Mode is used if you want fewer emails (not really a problem on the Stimpson list) , the postings are just aggregated and sent out once a day in Digest Mode.

In the subject section of the email, put the word 'Subscribe.'

That is it! You should receive an email welcoming you to the list.

Thanks for asking,
Scott Stimpson

My husband is a Stimson (thus, by marriage, so am I!). His family comes from the Camberwell area of London, and he knows very little about them, as all immediate relatives have passed away.
Please could we be added to this mailing list?
Jan

Cecile

I know this is a longshot but this is the first time I have seen any British Stimson's mentioned on this list so I thought I would inquire if you or anyone else might know anything about Stimson's from Buckinghamshire, namely a George STIMSON b. abt 1852 in Old Bradwell and married to an Elizabeth FOWLER b. abt 1853 in Heath & Reach, Bedford. This is my Great Grandfather and I would dearly love to find out who his parents were and also info about his son Howard Fowler STIMSON b. 1880. Thanking you in advance for any assistance you can render.. Judi McRae Tacoma WA USA

Hello Deborah

You've sent this message a long time ago, but if you are still interested I have information about Frederick Stimson, born in Brighton in 1889 (married to Kate Sargeant). His family actually came from Brighton.

Cécile
