Historically marked Strother grave

Classification: Cemetery
Surnames: Strother
Thought this might be of interest to Strother descendants.

In Collin County Texas near the town of Anna, (north of Dallas) stands a small cemetery called Highland Cemetery. It is well maintained and still in use. The first marked grave in the cemetery is that of:
Robert French Strother, b Nov 11, 1785 Franklin County, North Carolina; d Jun 21, 1861 Collin County, Texas.

R.F.'s burial site has been noted on a large bronze historical marker issued by the Texas State Historical Commission in front of the cemetery. Some family trees I have seen show this descendent to have died in Tennessee, however this is not the case. He is, with his son (Western Green Strother) the first Strother's to have settled in Texas (then known as the Republic of Texas) in 1854. W.G. purchased 1000 acres in Collin County, part of the Peter's Colony established by Rep of Tx in 1841.

R.F.'s ancestry is:
< Judd Strother, b Feb 23, 1771, d Dec 15, 1857;
< Christopher Judd Strother, b 1715, d 1741;
< Jeremiah Strother, b 1655, d 1741;
< William Strother (the Immigrant).

Robert French Strother's descendants (that are also buried at this cemetery) are:
> Weston (or Western) Green Strother, b Mar 28, 1816 Murfreesboro, TN, d Dec 24 1900 Anna, TX;
> James Lafayette Strother, b Aug 17, 1879 Collin County, TX, d Oct 25, 1952 Anna, TX;
> Guy Orlando Strother (my father), b Oct 4, 1916 Anna, TX, d Sept 23, 1999 Fort Worth, TX, buried at Anna.

Note: W.G., my father's grandfather was born 100 years before him, wow! And my grandfather J.L. was born 81 years before me! S-t-r-e-t-c-h those generations!! Not uncommon, look at Jeremiah and Judd, 116 years difference between grandfather and grandson!! Crazy!

There are other Strother descendants buried here as well, most probably descendants of R.F. and W.G.

I have the names of R.F.'s descendants as well as W.G.'s, but it would go on forever, these are large farm families! If interested, please post back.
