Seeking additional information on Christian Stutzmann, a farmer, age 34 of Reformed religion, who, with his wife
Magdelena Stuck, age 37 and a
Baptist, left Spiez, Germany on the ship "
Oberlander" in 1711 to emigrate to Sappameer, Holland by way of
Amsterdam.
They traveled with others from their native Germany to avoid religious persecution. Sometime after 1721 these new
Swiss families split up - some going to
England, some to Ireland. Many later emigrated to
Pennsylvania, some by way of
New York state and later included in the Schoharie Valley settlers who traveled by raft down the Susquehanna River to settle the Tulpehocken area of
Berks Co., PA. which was then still a part of
Lancaster co., PA.
Has anyone found a record of Christian
Stutzman emigrating to PA about 1729? Or, perhaps, the Peter
Stutzman who arrived in
Berks Co. about 1741 was his son?
Any assistance tracing this family would be much appreciated! All descendents, including the progenitor Christian, can be found in Evangelical Lutheran Church records.
Thanks!
