I was wondering if you have any proof that a Jacob Stitsman b. abt 1779 who later married Susanna Ullery and was a dunkard minister in the Somerset/Bedford Co. area. They had a daughter, Elizabeth who married a Weaver. There seems to be alot of confusion in the Jacob/Christian lines. Thank you. buhl@epix.net

You may be attempting to track the same elusive Christian Stutzmann who I have been tracking since 2001. My CS served in the 2nd Pennsylvania Battalion which later became the 3rd Pennsylvania Regiment and he is listed on the Valley Forge roll. He married Eva Elizabeth Radenback in 1766; he was married previous and had a son, Christian Jr. The family lived in Hegins Valley in Schuylkill County (it originally was in Berks County). My line eventually moved to Mt. Carmel in Northumberland County.

I will be glad to share information.

I am replying on behalf of Reuben Stutzman. From the Ancestry World Project I found a Johann Jacob Stutzmann born on 1 Jan 1706 in Switzerland married to Magdalena Steck. It also shows Christian Stutzman born in 1732, married in 1753 in Berks County, PA and died on 17 Nov 1770 in Berks County, PA. I have also found this same birth date (1 Jan 1706) for Johann Jacob Stutzmann, but born in Germany. Can anyone help? Please reply direct to joan_kay2006@hotmail.com.
Many thanks.

I would love to have a copy of the history for my Amish friend, Reuben Stutzman. He comes in through Jerry J Stutzman who married Ida Gingerich. Jerry was also known as "Cherry". I have been trying to help him and I have seen Johann Jacob Stutzmann born on 1 Jan 1706 in Switzerland and also the same date born in Germany. Does anyone have any proof out there?
Is it possible for you to scann and e-mail me the info at joan_kay2006@hotmail.com.
Thanks.
Joan

I'm searching for more information on my GGGrandfather Jacob Stutzman, born in Alsace France (or Germany) in 1823, husband of Sophia Specht whom was from Baden Germany and immigrated around 1950. It seems he came to America my way of Mississippi and never made his way up the river to the other Stutzmans in the Midwest.

I have all of almost all of his records in America, except for how he got here in 1843. Just fishing for more information, and trying to link him with the European side of the Stutzman family.

Her maiden name was Huss. She was born in 1863 in Pennsylvania. She married Warren Stutzman (b.1861). Her dad was Abraham b.1829. Her kids were Edna b.1888, James b. 1891, and Warren b.1899. I'm looking for death dates, birth dates, info on her mother (I've found 2 names for the mother so maybe Abraham remarried?), siblings, spouses, and descendants. I'm also looking for the 1870 census for these people. I've only been able to find 1860, 1880, 1900, and 1910.

This posting is several years old, so you may have since heard, as I had, that it wasn't unusual for individuals to be forced by the state to be baptized in the Lutheran churches -- people who didn't comply were persecuted.

It was not unusual for Swiss German ancestors to have been baptized or had their children baptized in Lutheran churches and became (if they weren't already) Amish, Mennonite or Dunkards / Brethren when they reached America.
My husband recently came across an old photo that belonged to Ethel Stutzman. She was the daughter of Daniel Fremont Stutzman and Laura Etta Wert. The photo is from approx the 1850/1860 (not an expert) based on the clothing. It is a picture of a man maybe in his fifties and woman who appears older. On the back, in Ethel's writing, is "my great grandma & pop". Does anyone have an old Stutzman photos that maybe compared to try and verify if they are truly Stutzman?
(They could easily be on the Wert side.)

Janet Stutzman

CHRISTIAN STUTZMANN

Seeking additional information on Christian Stutzmann, a farmer, age 34 of Reformed religion, who, with his wife Magdelena Stuck, age 37 and a Baptist, left Spiez, Germany on the ship "Oberlander" in 1711 to emigrate to Sappameer, Holland by way of Amsterdam.

They traveled with others from their native Germany to avoid religious persecution. Sometime after 1721 these new Swiss families split up - some going to England, some to Ireland. Many later emigrated to Pennsylvania, some by way of New York state and later included in the Schoharie Valley settlers who traveled by raft down the Susquehanna River to settle the Tulpehocken area of Berks Co., PA. which was then still a part of Lancaster co., PA.

Has anyone found a record of Christian Stutzman emigrating to PA about 1729? Or, perhaps, the Peter Stutzman who arrived in Berks Co. about 1741 was his son?

Any assistance tracing this family would be much appreciated! All descendents, including the progenitor Christian, can be found in Evangelical Lutheran Church records.

Thanks!
