Vincent Charles Thompson

I am trying to find information about Vincent Charles Thompson. He was married to Beatrice Franks in 1911 in Frindsbury, Kent England and he had 3 children, Stanley, Gladys and Sybil. He worked on building sites and was hit on the head, which caused his death, sometime between 1941 and 1965. He was in his 20's when he got married(at the time of writing I haven't got the certificate with me, but can get this information. My Mum says that there seems to be some kind of mystery about him. His father was also Vincent Charles Thompson, who was deceased by 1911. He had a sister called Annie, possibly with a middle name beginning with C, as an AC Thompson was the witness at his marriage. Can anyone out there help me trace any more info, as ancestry has only led me to his birth certificate? Many Thanks

I would appreciate any information.

Andrew Thompson, b.1816, IN, IL, son of Ephraim and Margaret?

I'm looking for the family of an Andrew Thompson, possibly the son of Ephraim and Margaret Thompson who were early settlers in Daviess County, IN.

In 1850 Andrew Thompson married Harriet Degan of Wabash County, IL; she was daughter of Henry and Jane Lauvellette Degan both of Vincennes, In. They had two children: Henry R. b 1852, and Laura Ann, b 1854. They both disappear by the 1860 census.

In the 1860 census, Andrew Thompson's daughter, Laura, b 1854, is living in Wabash Co, IL with her mother's parents, Henry and Jane Degan. Her older brother Henry R. Thompson, b 1852,is not with her. There is however a Henry R. Thompson age 9, living with Samuel R. Alexander and his wife Dorcas Alexander, b 1811, in Knox County, IN. There is also a young Mayhall girl who may have been Susan Mayhall's sister? The connection here is with Gibson Co, IN, where a John R. Thompson is married to a Susan Mayhall.

Dorcas Alexander's maiden name was Thompson, then she married Minard Smith, and after being widowed, married Samuel R. Alexander, widowed son in law of Rev Scott of the Presb. church. Samuel Alexander became the Pres Church minister after Scott in Knox Co, Vincennes.

Dorcas was born in S.C. and then lived in Daviess Co with Minard Smith, then Knox Co with Samuel Alexander where we find her in 1860. In the 1850 census is a John Thompson, b 1801 also in SC; living with him is his mother Margaret, b Maryland, 1783. John has a son named Ephraim. This Ephraim as a young man, goes on to CA to work on gold mines and his letters have been preserved. He eventually returns to Daviess Co and marries Eliza someone, I think the girl he left behind, and they have one child, Martha (Mattie) before Eliza dies. By 1870 Ephraim is living with his parents John and Elizabeth, with his 11 year old daughter in Washington, Daviess Co, IN. Ephraim, b 1834, becomes a successful merchant in Washington. His daughter Mattie marries a J.C. Lavelle, deputy auditor of Daviess Co, eloping against her father's wishes, but she is 20 or so then, per the Daveiss Co Democrat newspaper.

Now I think that Margaret, John's mother, Ephraim's grandmother, is the widow of an Ephraim Thompson who was an early settler in Daviess County, per Goodspeed's book. Ephraim Thompson is in the 1830 census, age 50-60. His youngest male then was 10-15, who could have been my Andrew. His wife was 40-50 (Margaret would have been 47). They also have a daughter of the right age to be Dorcas. The brother John Thompson is already out of the house since he was 29. This older Ephraim Thompson was an elder of the Presb. Church in 1814 in Daviess. He was also a Daviess Co commissioner for many years. He was in Commers Fort.

So I'm seeing the link between these Ephraim Thompsons and Andrew Thompson based on Henry R. Thompson, boy same age as Andrew's son Henry R. Thompson, living with Dorcas Alexander who was a Thompson, and may have been Ephraim and Margaret Thompson's daughter, sister of John, and maybe sister of Andrew?? It's a stretch, but nothing else has worked so far...

I would appreciate any assistance or info.

Lillian Ann (Quillia) Thompson

I'm looking for descendants of Lillian Ann (Quillia) Thompson. She may have been baptized under the name Lillian Coallier or Coalier, as some of her siblings were. The father used various spellings throughout his life. I think Lillian was born in Malone, NY about 1896 then moved to Branford, CT and married a Thompson. Lillian's mother, Therese (Gervais) Quillia was living with Lillian in Lillian's home in Branford until Therese Gervais Quillia's death in about 1936. Lillian's father's name was Samuel Quillia. I'm hoping a descendant of Lillian will have photos of Lillian's parents, (Therese Gervais Quillia and Samuel Quillia) and some of Lillians 15 siblings (Raymond, Mary, Elizabeth, William, Wilfred "Fred", Arthur, Florence, Rena, Edward, et al). I'm hoping Lillian was the "keeper of the family photos" and a descendant who inherited the family photos would be willing to share. I have two photos of Lillian. If you have a Lillian in the family married to a Thompson and she was in her twenties around 1905-1920, and you think it might possibly be her, contact me through the Ancestry.com connection service and we can compare photos. Thanks.

Thompson & Walker families from Missouri & Arkansas 1852 to Oregon

The bulk of these Thompson families lived at Lost Creek township, Newton county, Missouri and are found there on the 1850 U.S. Census. That much is clear and documented.

What isn't completely clear is if they were all the children of one Thompson father or two brothers. It is thought they may be the children of John Leonard Thompson born in VA circa 1760 to John Thompson and Lady Spotswood, widow of Alexander Spotswood. Until her marriage she was known as Anne Butler Brayne.

I am looking for anyone with information and or family connections to:
Alexander Thompson born VA 1812
John C. Thompson born VA 1814
James Thompson born KY 1818
Mercer Thompson born KY 1821
Joseph Thompson born KY 1823
Mary Thompson born KY 1826
Frances Thompson born MO 1833

Most of these children lived near Lost Creek. Mary married Washington P. Walker and they moved to Benton county, Arkansas which isn't far from Newton county, MO.

By 1852, the Thompson and Walker families were traveling overland on the Oregon trail. Washington Walker was the captain of the wagon train, which appears to be a rather large one. It arrived in Oregon Sept.about Sept.4th of 1852. I show the following people on that train....
List is from Donation Land Grant records:
ALLINGHAM, David W.
ATTERBURY, Josiah
BARBRE, Thomas
BOYES, Samuel B.
BRASHEAR, John C.
BRISBINE, Joseph
CANADAY, Henry
CHENOWITH, John
CHURCHILLE, Lewis
CLYMER, Christian
COPPLE, John
DAVIS, Hardin
DENTON, Charles W.
EARNEST, Willis B.
ELMER, George W.
GOULD, John B.
GRAY, James
GREER, Henry S.
HEATER, George
HEATER, Lorenzo
HILL, Harvey
ILES, Henderson
JACKSON, Edward
JONES, David
KILLAM, Leonard
KISER, Jacob
LINVILLE, John
LITTRELL, Samuel
LITTRELL, Samuel Jr.
MASON, William
McCORKLE, William N.
McCULLY, Henry F.
MONTGOMERY, William N.
MURPHEY, Calvin L.
OGLE, Joseph
OSBORN, Samuel P.
PROBSTEL, Wendel
RUDIO, Peter
SMITH, Christopher C.
SMITH, Elijah
SMITH, John
STANTON, Daniel
STARR, Benjamin F.
THOMAS, Andrew
THOMPSON, Ewart
THOMPSON, Fayette
THOMPSON, Joseph
THOMPSON, Merier
TICE, John M.
TUREMAN, Leonard
WALKER, Jesse F.
WALKER, WashingtonP.
WOODY, Reuben B.
YATES, William N.
ZAHNIZER, Aaron

Can you trace your ancestors to any of these early pioneers? If so, please post here.
Andrew, Rebecca and their daughter Sarah Thompson, Quebec 1927

My g/uncle and g/aunt sailed from Belfast on the 'Athenia' to Quebec on 27th Sept. 1927 with their 10 year old daughter Sarah. They arrived in Quebec on the 9th Oct.1927.
The Canadian Immigration paperwork shows them going onward to the 'British Settlement Society' at Picton (I think) in Ontario. Does anyone know what this Society is, is/was it at Picton? I can't seem to be able to trace it.
The family originally came from the Kesh area in County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. I didn't know this Andrew was my g/uncle until I saw that he had given his closest relative as my other g/uncle that I knew and had met. It has taken me 5 years to get this far.
I'm now trying to go beyond Quebec to Ontario, if they went there. Would anyone have any clues please, as to where I could look next??

Ben

Cincinnati Thompsons

I am seeking information about the ancestors of Samuel Joseph Thompson, a prominent attorney in Cincinnati, b. 26 Feb 1820 d. 14 Oct 1895. Records are inconsistent concerning his state of birth, but W.VA. seems the most probable. He is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery. He had a brother, Moses Franklin Thompson, b. abt 1823 in Wheeling, W.VA, who was a merchant in Cincinnati and is also buried in Spring Grove Cemetery. Their father was John Thompson, who appears to have been living in Cincinnati with Moses in 1870 at the age of 82 and is listed as born in PA, although Samuel lists his father as born in Ohio. Family history says that the Samuel's mother was Elsa Livingston, but the interment records at Spring Grove Cemetery list the parents of both Samuel and Moses as John and Mary. I have information on the descendants of Samuel and Moses. Samuel's son Charles Telford became a prominant attorney and civic leader in Minneapolis. But I am trying to find out what other siblings they had, where John Thompson came from, who the mother of Samuel and Moses was, and any other information about this family. I believe they were Scotch-Irish, but have no information about their arrival in the U.S.

Thomas Jefferson Thompson from Scotland,TN,AR,TX born 1851

I am searching for ancestors of my great grandfather whose name was Thomas Jefferson Thompson who was born in Scotland on January 4, 1851 and lived at least in the states of Tennessee, Arkansas, and moving to Texas in 1872 to Gonzales, Texas. He had a number of brothers including a Columbus Thompson and a Robert Thompson who stayed in Tennessee with Robert Thompson becoming a policeman in Memphis. He married Mary "Molly" Elezibeth (maybe Elizabeth) Rankin on February 25, 1875 in Goliad, Texas and also lived in Cuero, Texas and Snyder, Texas where he died on February 6, 1934. He went by "J.T.". I am looking for any information on his ancestry as his immigrant's father's name is unknown as well as his mother's name is not known. Thanks, Mike Smith michael8689@sbcglobal.net

I am searching for my great grandfather Thomas Jefferson Thompson, born January 4, 1851, who immigrated from Scotland to Tennessee. He had a number of brothers including Columbus Thompson and Robert Thompson, a Memphis policeman. He went by the nickname of "J.T." and eventually moved to Arkansas and then Texas (Goliad and Cuero) and he died in Snyder, Texas on February 6, 1934. He married Mary "Molly" Elezibeth Rankin on February 25, 1875 in Goliad, Texas. They had a number of children. I am looking for any ancestors as the name of his Scottish immigrant father is unknown as well as the name of his mother is unknown who died when Thomas Jefferson Thompson was young. Thanks. Mike Smith michael8689@sbcglobal.net

George and Sarah J. Dixon Thompson family of Alambama (AL), Mississippi (MS), Arkansas (AR), Texas (TX)

I am searching for any information on the following family:
George Thompson born circa 1819 in Alabama (AL)
Sarah J. Dixon Thompson born circa 1818 in Alabama (AL)
Charles Thompson born circa 1839 in Mississippi (MS)
David Thompson born circa 1841 in Mississippi (MS)
Drury Thompson born circa 1843 in Mississippi (MS)
"Ann" Margiana Thompson born circa 1845 in Mississippi (MS)
Columbus Thompson born circa 1847 in Mississippi (MS)
John Thompson born circa 1849 in Mississippi (MS)
"T.J." "Jefferson" Thomas Jefferson Thompson born circa 1851 in Mississippi
George Thompson born circa 1854 in Mississippi (MS)
Martha J. Thompson born circa 1858 in Arkansas (AR)

This family was recorded in the 1850 U.S. Census in Pontotoc County, Mississippi (MS).

This family was recorded again in the 1860 U.S. Census in Lagrue (LaGrue), Prairie County, Arkansas (AR).

After 1860, it appears that only Columbus Thompson and "T.J.", "Jeff", and "Jefferson" Thomas Jefferson Thompson appear again in U.S. Census reports in Gonzales County, Texas (TX) and Snyder, Scurry County, Texas (TX). At least three of the four children of "T.J." Thomas Jefferson Thompson eventually settled in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas (TX).

It appears that Columbus Thompson and "T.J." Thomas Jefferson married granddaughters of John Keith Rankin in Charlotte E. Neel who married Columbus Thompson and Mary Elezibeth Rankin who married "T.J." Thomas Jefferson Thompson.

As only limited information is known to me about Columbus Thompson and "T.J." Thomas Jefferson Thompson and their descendants, so any help would be appreciated to find out more information including the prior origins of George Thompson in Alabama and Sarah J. Dixon Thompson in Alabama.

Thanks,
Mike Smith
michael8689@sbcglobal.net
