Hi Lori,
William and Caroline is my mothers grandparents. Hubert Thorsen is her biological father. I have pictures of the Thorsen's and also one of the house when they lived in it. My grandmother has told me stories of the house. Hubert and Eric have both passed away. I know that Hubert has several children. Eric and Hubert both were adopted in Michigan at an early age. You are welcome to e-mail at gcal123@att.net. I do have some info to share with you,
Catherine.

My son lives in the Thorsen House in Berkeley, CA. It is owned by the Sigma Phi Fraternity. The house is a National Historic House which is open to the public for tours on Saturdays. It is considered an Ultimate Bungalow, designed by Greene and Greene.

My son asked me to do some research on Ancestry to find out about the Thorsen family. William R. & Caroline Thorsen lived in Berkeley, CA 2307 Piedmont Ave. from about 1909 until 1942 when they both died. There are two sons that show up on Census records in 1920. (Both listed as adopted sons) John Eric age 13 in 1920 and Hubert R. age 12 in 1920. Let me know if you need more info. I'm still digging. Have you tried looking up Thorsen in the phone book in Santa Clara?

Lori

Biography: Osbjorn Thorsen

Walsh Heritage, ND 1881-1981 Volume 1 page 457
OSBJORN THORSEN
Mrs Osbjorn Thorsen was born in Austad, Satersdalen, Norway in 1852. Her parents were Olave Isackson Austad and Joraand Salvesdatter. Gunhild Austad was married to Osbjorn Thorsen in Norway in 1874.

In 1878, Mr and Mrs Thorsen and their two sons decided to leave Norway. After an ocean voyage in a sailboat, they landed in New York. From there they continued by train westward to the end of the railroad, which at that time extended as far as Fisher's Landing, located on the Red River south of Grand Forks. They remained with friends in Bygland, Minnesota near Fisher's Landing until the nest spring, when they came to Fertile Township.

Upon their arrival Thorsen homesteaded land now owned by their son, Kittel Thorsen. The Thorsen family lived at the Bjornson home while a log cabin was being built on their homestead. Mr and Mrs Thorsen were charter members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Fertile Township and they actively assisted in the organization of the church. Mrs Thorsen was also a charter member of the Zion Ladies Aid. They bought their supplies fra the store located at Sweden, no longer in existence, three and a half miles fra their home.
