Classification: Query
Surnames: Langham/Smith Treadwell/Devane
Hello All, I've just racked my brains and proved a great, great grandmother, (after years of searching!) and of course it's lead me to another brickwall. James Thomas Langham married Nancy Ann Smith. Years after their death a lady shows up in one of their son's household as his Aunt, after tracing the Spinster aunt backwards, I finally proved Nancy's parentage, ( with a Smith name that's an accomplishment by itself!). Anyway, Nancy's parents are Tryon and Mary. I found a couple of references as Mary's maiden name being Devane, daughter of George Devane and Mariam Treadwell, (Mariam is also the spinster aunt's name!).
I find Tryon in Bladen County, North Carolina in 1800, 1810 and 1820. 1830 he disappears, then reappears in Monroe County, Alabama for the years 1840 and 1850. The 1850 census gives his year of birth as 1770 and Mary's as about 1785. Mary and Mariam show up in her son's home in 1860 by which time Tryon's dead. By 1870 Mary is dead.
Has anyone ran across this family? If anyone can even give me a hint of where to go to now, I would GREATLY appreciate it!
Thanks in advance
