Mrs. Elizabeth "Betsy" Armstrong, age 76, beloved wife of 54 years to James L. Armstrong of Milford, CT, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2008 in Shelton. Daughter of the late Harry and Beatrice Allen Turton, she was born on April 9, 1931 in Bridgeport, CT and was a Milford resident since 1957. Mrs. Armstrong was a graduate of the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1952 and retired as Health Coordinator of the Valley Head Start Program in 1991. She was a volunteer at the Milford Hospital and a member of the Laurel Beach Garden Club. She enjoyed her grandchildren, camping, fishing, hiking, and traveling around the United States with her husband in their RV. In addition to her husband she leaves her children, David Armstrong and his wife Mary of Raleigh, NC; Richard Armstrong and his wife Beth of Orange, CT; Thomas Armstrong and his wife Cissy of Milford, CT, Patricia Borges and her husband, Christopher of Monroe, CT and Donna Correia and her husband Michael of North Haven, CT. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Swan and her brother Harry Turton. The family would like to thank the staff at Gardner Heights in Shelton and in particular those of the Cedar Unit. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. in St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 283 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. Committal will be private. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street on the Green, Milford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Center, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., Clarksburg, MD 20871.
This was my mom. She suffered from Alzheimer's for at least 10 years and now she's at peace. She died the day after their 54th anniversary.
