LANCASTER, Ohio:
Born December 27 1928, the only child of Herbert E. and Dorothy (Prentice) Wedge of Chardon, Ohio passed on August 4, 2010 with his loving family by his side.
He was a veteran of the second world war in the United States Navy where he served as a radar specialist.
After an honorable discharge Herbert choose to attend and was a graduate of Purdue University in 1952.
After graduating, he pursued a career as a Pyrometallurgical Engineer, first in Rockwood, Tennessee and then Riddle, Oregon where he was employed by the Hanna Mining Company. Herb's career with Hanna Mining included the start-up of a Nickel mine in Columbia where he served as Vice President of Operations. He ended his career as General Manager of the Riddle, Oregon mine in 1987. After his retirement, he moved to Roseburg, Oregon and still has residence there. He was also a member of the American Legion, and a former member of the ELKs.
Survivors include his wife of sixteen years, Joan A. of the Lancaster, Ohio residence; sons, Herbert C., of Houston, TX, Thomas J. (Tamie) Wedge; and daughter, Deidra (Wedge) Daigle of Roseburg, Oregon; there are four grandchildren, Anny Wedge of Bend, OR, Codie Wedge of Kalamazoo, Michigan, T. Riley Wedge of Adena, OH, and Blake Daigle of Roseburg, Oregon; also surviving are three step-children, Jodie L. (Patrick) Keels of Lancaster, OH, Julie R. (Patrick) Quick of Pickerington, OH, and Shawn E. (Dandra) Wedge. Lancaster, OH; nine step-grandchildren, Shawnda, Cassie, Brandon, Danielle, and Jennifer Wedge, Erika and Samantha Quick, Stuart and Douglas Keels; three great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Jackie Wharton, Phyllis and Tom Kuhn all of Lancaster, OH, sister-in-law, Dorothy Courtney of Hayward, WI; several nieces and nephews.
Herbert was preceded in death by his first wife, Millicent (Courtney) Wedge; and his parents
Caring Cremation has taken place through the FRANK E SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Lancaster, OH.
Burial will take place in Roseburg, Oregon where a memorial service will take place at a later date to be announced.
