Weinbergers Munkach (now Moukachevo) A/H

Harold Weinberger  (View posts) Posted: 2 Jun 2000 5:17PM GMT
Abraham Weinberger born in Austria Hungary
in (I believe) above named town was grandfather I never knew.
He married Fannie (Isaacs? or Auslander?) he died Jan 1931, buried in Queens NY in 'society' plot (not sure of name of society).
There were relatives (e.g. Dave Weinberger
of Kinsgton NY(?) and talk of 'Seven Sisters' dont know exactly who they were.
I myself am named after Harry Auslander, which is why I think that may have been Fannie's last name

My great-grandfather, Jacob Weinberger came to the US from Munkash, Hungary (now Mukachevo, Ukraine) in the 1880's, a widower with 3 daughters and a son, William (my grandfather). Jacob W. was a pious, observant Jew who had been a winemaker or wine merchant in Munkash. he married a widow, Sally Eisner in Scranton, PA and died and was buried (age ~88) in Scranton in the 1920s. Jacob had a cousin, Rabbi Weiss, who lived in New York. I am interested in any additional information that anyone can provide since I am unable to trace the family any further.

There seems to be some overlap in our lineage. (This is my husband's family)....

(Morris could have been your g,g,grandfather's brother - )

In the 1880's (approx) Morris and Honey Weinberger emigrated from Hungary to McKeesport, PA. They had seven children in McKeesport....

William - deceased
daughter Carol in OH
Joseph (my husband's grandfather) - deceased
Bess
David - deceased married to Esther(?not sure)
daughter Saundra in AL
Harriet - married to Albert Silverman
kids - David Mark
Primid

This is all I have so far. My father-in-law was going from his own recollection but I expect to collect more soon.

I made a typographical error, the last Name is Weinberger, not Weunberger.

As a child, I recall visiting 'relatives'
in McKeesport . It was 1958. I remember a
woman with a cat. The house was 'elevated',
as if up on a hill. I can recall some
views (visuals) which have stuck in my
brain for some reason.
In response to Weinbergers Hungary-
McKeesport
Weinbergers from Mukachevo (Munkach).

Hello Dr. Weinberger.
My grandfather, Abraham Weinberger emigrated
with wife Fanny well prior to 1919 (when
my father was born 'over here').
So, your ggf. Jacob's son could potentially
be a cousin of my grandfather , I would
guess.
My problem is to trace the Weinbergers
in Munkash.
Regards,
Harold W.
