Hi, I recently found out that my great great mother named Roza weinberger was married to a Rabbi, first name unknown and they were from Zboro. Her maiden name was Silva and she was born about 1850. Her husband's family was full of Jewish scholars. They had a daughter named Fanny ( if others they are not known) and the 2 of them came over to USA about 1900. Wondering if any of your are familiar with my family.

Interesting information. I have a huge amount of information on a Weinberger family with ties to New York City, Lackawanna County (where Scranton is) and Chicago. There's even a William Weinberger on my tree, and I never knew who his parents were. The family is also tied in to some Weisses, but that's a real common name. Anyway, you can write me at jillschoenberg@earthlink.net.

I believe this Paula Schwartz was one of my the younger sisters of my maternal gfather, Theodore (Tivador) Schwartz of Ungvar. Viola's name in Hungarian was Ibolyka, according to a photo I have of her and her mother. Please contact me if you have any information. Thanks very much!

Hello, I'm sorry to say I have no answers,....only questions. I too have some Weinberger ancestry on my mothers side. My G-grandpa Weinberger (Sabastian) was born in Radstat in 1879, he died in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan,Canada in 1969. He was married to Frances Moser, but I'm sure this was his second wife, the first may have been a Frei. His fathers name was Adam (b. in Radstat) and he was married to a Odilia Hitchrich.

As North Dakota is directly South of Saskatchewan there may be a connection.

Please note new e-mail address! Thanks for the info. The Vicic name is actually my married name. We have very little info other than Jack Josef Vicic, Austria-Hungary, emigrated from Trieste and arrived at the port of New Orleans around 1907, then lived in Galveston, Texas for an unspecified amount of time. He worked his way over on a ship, I think shoveling coal on the boat. We have no family information other than that. He lived in Sugarland, Texas at Imperial Sugar and was a sugar boiler. Had one child in 1922. Does any of this sound familiear in your papers?
Sarhita

Chuck,

I have to wonder if there's a connection w/us. Here's what I know,

Samual Grossman married Fannie WEINBERGER (my gg grandparents). They came to the US around 1874 from Hungary. They had at least one child, Louis Grossman (my great grandfather) who is burried next to Frank and Cecelia WEINBERGER in Forest Park, Illinois. I haven't put the pieces together yet, but I'm theorizing that Frank may have been Fannie's brother according to dates of birth.
My great grandmother Elisabeth Weinberger married Karl Braun geboren Karlsruhe. Elisabeth was born 1830 in Rastadt and died in 1903 in Richardton, North Dakota, USA. She came to America in 1891 with all of her children and their families.

I do not know who her parents were. There were these sons born to Peter and Mariana Emnet Weinberger, who went to Russia in early 1800: Joseph ca 1801; Johann ca 1802; Adam ca 1806; Matthias ca 1807; Thomas ca 1813 and Jakob ca 1813. One of these must have been her father.
My great-grandparents, Josef and Hanna (Anna) Czalku, and grandfather Sam Czalku (then a teenager?), came to the Port of Philadelphia from Munkacs on the Hannover in 1911. The manifest lists their sponsor as "Weinberger, McKeesport." Czalku became Salkovitz (adopted by my family members who had arrived earlier) and Sam settled in Braddock, Pa and later Pittsburgh, Pa. He died in 1950. My cousin (ie also Sam's granddaughter) remembers that there were old family friends named "Weinberger"...So thank you, Munkacher Weinbergers!
Lisa Salkovitz Kohn

Weinberger from Rastadt

I too am descended from Peter Phillip WEINBERGER 1767-? He was listed in a 1828 record of "State Debts for Loans Credited to the Colonies" from Rastadt. He had 4 males and 5 females in the family
There was a Johan Weinberger with 3 males and 1 females living almost next to him.

My gggrandmother was Magdalena Weinberger who married a Johannes HECK from Rastadt She was born 1823- 1908, seems kinda old. I got these dates from a fellow researcher, Tim Geiger from CN. Their children emigrated to Canada except my ggrandmother, Elizabeth HECK METZ who emigrated in 1898 to Dickinson ND she died in 1931 Her husband Peter Metz died in 1905 in Dickinson, both buried in St Joseph Cemetery.

I am trying to find her(Magdalena) father and have only the 3 possibles, Joseph, b 1800, Johann b 1801, and Adam b May 13 1804 in Zeiskam, RP,
Anyway, she had 2 possible sisters, Marianna and Elizabeth.
Still trying to figure this family out.
I am in the process of joining the Beresan District of Odessa (BDO) a private listserve. They are getting an ongoing amount of information through Odessa and in the process of getting more and putting on their website.
Anyway, I found through ordering through the Family History Center Church records, for Zeiskam Germany, that Peter Weinberger's parents were Frederick and Maria Catherina BRUCKER.
Phillip had one sister that I know of, Maria Catherina b 1767, married to a Balthazar WETZEL They are listed in Muenchen in 1811

Would like to correspond with anyone descended from this family.

Hope to hear from anyone

Linda Evans
Sandy, Oregon

My Great-grandfather, Jacob Weinberger, emigrated from Munkach (now Mukachevo) to New York city about 1882. he was a widower with 3 daughters and a son (my grandfather), William (Wilhelm) who was 13. Jacob re-married Sarah Eisner, a widow from Scranton, PA and moved there, leaving William with an older sister. He subsequently married my grandmother and had 9 children (Blanche, Lillie, Pauline, Joe, Leo, Max, Morris, Sam (my father) and Herbert. My father recalls Jacob coming to his Bar Mitzvah in 1923 at the age of 88 with a white beard, meerschaum pipe and "davening" all the time. He stayed with a cousin, Rabbi Weiss, when he came to New York and was said to have been a wine maker in Munkach. Any connections?

A.J. Eiler, I am very interested in what history you have on Adam Weinberger & Anna Maria Stein and there children. I beleive Adam was some kind of relation to my Great-Grandmother as she talked about him. He was possibly an Uncle to her. My G-Grandmothers name was Elizabeth Weinberger (B) 15 Aug 1877 in Rastadt (D) 23 Sep 1961 in Bismarck,ND was married three times 1st Michael Zimmermann (D) 1931 2nd Valentine Schwengler (D) 1945 3rd Peter Eisenzimmer (D) 1948. Michael Zimmermann is my G-Grandfather his 1st wife was Eva Makelki the mother to my Grandfather Michael Zimmermann Jr. she died in childbirth with him in Landau. It was then that he married Elizabeth and they had ten children, they came to the US in 1902 finally settling in Pierce County,ND near the village of Orrin. There address at the time they homesteaded was called Brazil,ND

The above names came up on the passenger list of a ship I am researching. I am posting this to all the bulletin boards for passenger’s last names. The list shows a Mr. and Mrs. Jan Weinberger plus what I assume are their daughters. They were joined later in voyage by a Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Weinberger. I don't know for a fact that these families are connected. But it would be strange on a passanger list of 44 people if they are not. My hope is to compile a short biography of the passengers. If you have someone by this name that might have made a voyage to/from South America on the Delta Lines Delorleans in early 1941 I would love to hear from you.

Note: rootsweb is giving me an error message unless I take the space out of the email address. If ssdelorleans doesn’t work try ss deloreans both are @aol.com

Mitch Fisher
SS Delorleans@aol.com
I'm thinking that your grandfather must have been a nephew to my gr. gr. grandmother. Just because of the birth dates. If my Elizabeth was born in 1830 and your grandfather Adam in 1855 then that would make sense. They'd be about 25 years apart. Do you know who your Adam's father was? Fraidenadorf Russia is also a place I've never heard of...must be a daughter colony of one of the primary colonies in Russia. I will check and let you know. Do you still have family who enjoy doing the family research? Was wondering if they found out who the Uncle was who was in the Richardton area? So glad you got a chance to go back to Glen Ullin and see things again with your two sons. I haven't been back there since I was a kid in the mid 60's early 70's. but I know I still have kin there. My mother was born in Richardton.

I will contact the fellow you mentioned in your post and see if we can't hook up. Will gladly keep in touch and let you know what I find out.

It is good chatting with you. Please don't hesitate to tell me more if you think about it. Would love to hear what you remember.

Warm regards,

Jackie Peterson

My grandmother Anna Marie,Stein, Weinberger (b,Jul 4, 1860 d Jan 13,1945 ) ( yes July 4 is correct) was born inLandau Russia as stated in her huspands Petition for naturalization. Her husband Adam Weinberger (b Apr 15,1855, d Oct 2, 1927) is stated as being born in Rastad, Russia. They and 11 children landed in New York October 6, 1901.The patition for naturalization states that all the children that came to the USA were born in Fraidenadorf Russia. I have never been able to confirm that. Anna Marie last child was born in December of 1901 in Glen Ulin N. Dak. When they arrived in the USA they went to the westeran part of N. Dak and homesteated about 10 miles south of Glen Ullin. I have bee on the homestead many times.

There was anouther Weinberger branch in Richardson N. Dak wheb I was a child ( I am 80 now) I remember my mother saying that the Richardson rbranch was from her Uncle. I never looked into that branch. I had a hard enough time working on Adam & Ana Marie. There is no part of the Adam& Anna Mrie family left in N. Dak. They scattered to the westeran part of the USA.

In 1999 my two sons took me to Glen Ullin so they and I could see where I grew up. I hadn't been there in 50 years. We went to the old St Joe' church south of Glen Ullin and we found a Weinberger on a duty roster. We didn't have time to look them up.

The Weinberger family is a large family they started In Germany and sometime in thw 1700's some of them moved to Russsia and the USA. Then in the late 1800's some of the family in Russia moved to USA. It seem that some are Catholic and some Jew nad now in the USA some og the Catholics have joined other churches.

You might want to contact John X Niessen at iessen@juno.com. He is looking at some branch of the family.

Good luck and keep me informed. TONY EILER in texas
