James Hamilton Wolfe, age 89,
formerly of Hastings Road in Millcreek, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008
He was born in Edinboro on August 2, 1919, the son of the late James T. Wolfe and Sadie Leacock Wolfe. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp in World War II where he began his love of airplanes. He worked for Atlantic Richfield Company and retired after 35 years as a Terminal Superintendent. He was a member of the Air Force Association and Erie Maennerchor. Jim had an engaging smile and good humor and will be missed by his many friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death seven months ago by his wife of 64 years Marjorie Wolfe; his sister, Gertrude Lewis. Survivors include his son Thomas Wolfe and his wife Laura of Denver, Colo.; a daughter Janet Raup and her husband John of Erie, PA; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and his sister, Ellen Wolfe of Erie.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 where services will take place on Monday at 10a.m. Burial in Fairview Cemetery. Jonathan Wolfe born 22 November 1847 in Ballinhassig, Co. Cork. In 1912 it was noted he was married to a Rebbecca UNKNOWN and had sons Jonathan, Robert, Thomas, James, Frank & Victor and a Daughter Julia.

Frank Bernard Wolfe, his son, married Elizabeth May Browning at Cardiff in 1920. Frank was a Sailor and Jonothan Senior served with the Royal Navy between 1872 and 1884.

Does any of this ring a bell with anyone.

John Wolfe (born abt 1918) had a daughter "Betty Lynne Wolfe" with Shirley Hensley, who was the daughter of Charles W Hensley (died 1942) and Katherine Grogan (died 1965). I don't know where Mr. Wolfe was originally from but seems to have resided in the Baltimore Maryland area. Betty Lynne's parents were in 1915 and resided in Baltimore City during the 1930's. Charles' occupation is listed as a well digger in the 1930 Federal Census. Both are buried in a cemetery located on the property of T. Marshall/BWI Airport, Harmans, Anne Arundle, Maryland. Interested in information about their daughter Shirley who had daughter Betty Lynn (born 1953) with John W Wolfe. Betty Lynn stated that both her mother Shirley and grandmother Katherine were killed in a automobile accident. According to information I've received online the Hensley and Wolfe families have been connected on previous occasions

They lived in Oaktown, Knox County. HE was first married to Mahala Land and

Niles News -- Joseph Frank Wolfe was born at Buffalo, N.Y. April 22, 1866. Was united in marriage to Carrie Funk August 7th, 1884. To this union were born 9 children, 8 of whom are living and one died in infancy. His wife Carrie Wolfe preceded him to that better world, March 23rd, 1913. On August 7th, 1915 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Ellen Sims, to this union were born 2 children, one of whom is living, the other passed away in infancy. Joseph Wolfe came to Kansas, August 1885 and has lived here almost continually ever since. He passed away at Solomon, Kansas, May 30th, 1918, aged 52 yrs, 1 month and 8 days. Besides his wife and children he has left to mourn his departure 10 step children, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

Trying to locate Mike Wolfe and mother Diane Adams-Wolfe

I'm trying to locate Mike Wolfe. Last known location was Dade County, Florida. His mother is Diane Adams who married a Wolfe. Diane's parents are Franklin E Adams and Helen Tankersly. I believe Diane was born in Chattanooga, TN between 1941 and 1944. She has a brother named Frank aka Toby. I'm guessing Mike's age to be between 35 and 41. I believe Mike has a sister, but I do not know her name. Helen's mother is or was in NC. Any info would be appreciated. Diane is my father's half sister that he does not know. Murvy and Bertha were my g-grandparent`s. They lived in I think Columbus,OH. might not have always been columbus though. I know that Murvy worked on the railroad..doing what i dont know.
thier children are: helen, hazel meria,mitch,robert, rose and maybe one more but i`m not sure.
Hazel Meria was my grandmother, she married Carl N Rehl and had 2 children, both girl`s.
I believe Hazel Meria was born Febuary 6, 1925 or 26.
She died June 12, 1969 of cerosis of the liver.

Donald McDowell Wolfe Sr., 79, of Howard, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.

Born June 1, 1928 in Beech Creek,
he was a son of the late Samuel Ezra and Alice Mae Rupert Wolfe.

His wife, Trixie I. McKean, survives at home. They were united in marriage Feb. 18, 1946.

Don was a concrete finisher for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two sons, Donald Jr. and wife Betty of Spring Mills
and David of Spring Mills;
a brother, Samuel Ezra Wolfe of Philadelphia;
and two grandsons, Donald III and wife Lorie
of Wellsboro and Michael of Spring Mills.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 135 W. Main St., Howard, with the Rev. Alan S. Eckenroad officiating.
Burial will be in Christian Cemetery, Blanchard.

POLAND, Ohio – Blanch R. Wolfe, 89, of Sunrise Assisted Living of Poland, Ohio died Friday afternoon Febuary 8, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Boardman Ohio campus.

She was born Sept. 9, 1918 in Pittsburgh,Pa., a daughter of Leon and Catherine Simkin Celmer.

Blanch was a homemaker and had served her country during WWII with the U.S. Navy. She was a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was also active with water aerobics at Club South. She enjoyed reading and had loved to travel.

Her husband, Walter Wolfe, whom she married Feb. 18, 1950, died June 9, 1979.

She is survived by her sons, James L. (Marsha) Wolfe of New Waterford and Walter J. Wolfe of Tennessee.

There will be no calling hours or service at Blanch’s request.

Arrangements are by the Anstrom-Velker Funeral Home.

I found a newspaper story in the Davenport newspaper dated Sept 26, 1924 about Daniel Wolfe, Sr. It is a four generation photo and appears to have been taken circa 1918. those listed in the photo are Daniel Wolfe, John Herbert Wolfe, Jesse Carter Wolfe, Sr, and Jesse Carter Wolfe, Jr.

Daniel was born in Leesburg, Ohio September 24, 1846 and died October 08, 1926 in Davenport Iowa but is buried in the Knoxville cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois I am looking for the original old photo so that I can get a copy.

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Americus GA as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: LAWRENCE ERVIN WOLFE, JR.
Born: Feb. 26, 1930, Caucasian
Date of loss: April 26 1952, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Wolfe family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

As a Result Thirty Gamblers Have Been Arrested

ARDMORE: Tom Harris, a well known gambler, was shot and probably
fatally wounded by C.D. Wolfe, also a gambler. The shooting
occured in the gambling room in the Apollis building. Wolfe was
said to have been intoxicated, and upon entering the room began
firing at Harris, who was seated at a table. Three shots took
effect in Harris' body, and his physicians say he cannot live.
After having been shot, Harris drew his revolver and attempted to
shoot Wolfe, but in his weakened condition his aim was poor and
the shots went wild. Wolfe immediately surrendered to the
authorities and is now being held awaiting the result of Harris'
wounds. Both Harris and Wolfe are prominent in sporting circles
and have resided here for several years.

As a result of several dificulties in which gamblers in this city
have recently been engaged, the authorities arrested thirty seven
white men and placed them in jail on the charge of gaming. All
the gambling houses in the city were raided and the paraphernalia
burned in the southern district. Houses in this city have continued
to run wide open since the beginning of the town, and most of them
will probably be in operation again in a few hours.

Anna Jane died 1905 Cabell County, Children were John, Abraham, Matilda, Mary Jane, Sarah Elizabeth, William, Thomas Thurman, Samuel Lewellyn, David Edward, Leslie Clark.
According to the census David's parents were also born in PA. Do not know if it was in Beaver County or not. I am wondering if his father would be a John since he named his first son John. Help!!

I recently purchased a bunch of old photos. One of the photos shows two young women and a man. On the front of the tin type photo is written "Alice E. (Huss) Wolfe, James G. Wolfe, and Alta M. Huss, twin daughters of James E. & Lydia Huss". The twins are dressed identical in beautiful dresses and hats. Unfortunately I don't know where this photo was taken. I would guess that this photo was taken around 1890. Hopefully someone will recognize their ancestors.

Navy Crew MIA From Vietnam War is Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of five U.S. servicemen, missing in action from the Vietnam War, have been accounted-for and will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors.

The dates and locations of the funerals for the . . . servicemen are being set by their families.

On Oct. 8, 1967, . . . an E-1B Tracer en route from Chu Lai Air Base, Vietnam, back to the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany. . . . Radar contact with the aircraft was lost approximately 10 miles northwest of Da Nang, Vietnam. Adverse weather hampered immediate search efforts, but three days later, a search helicopter spotted the wreckage of the aircraft on the face of a steep mountain in Da Nang Province. The location, terrain and hostile forces in the area precluded a ground recovery.

In 1993 and 1994, human remains were repatriated to the United States by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (S.R.V.) with information that linked the remains to unassociated losses in the same geographical area as this incident. Between 1993 and 2004, U.S/S.R.V. teams, all led by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), investigated the incident more than 15 times in Da Nang city and Thua Thien-Hue Province.

Between 2004 and 2005, the joint teams surveyed and excavated the crash site where they recovered human remains and crew-related items. During the excavation in 2005, the on-site team learned that human remains may have been removed previously from the site. S.R.V. officials concluded that two Vietnamese citizens found and collected remains at the crash site, and possibly buried them near their residence in Hoi Mit village in Thua Thein-Hue Province. In 2006, another joint U.S./S.R.V. team excavated the suspected burial site in Hoi Mit village, but found no additional remains. In 2007, more remains associated with this incident were repatriated to the United States by S.R.V. officials.

Among other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from JPAC and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory also used mitochondrial DNA and dental comparisons in the identification of the remains.

Looking for info on my GGrandfather Henry Wolfe. The 1870 Cameron Parish, LA Census lists him as 35, making his bdate abt 1835. His birthplace is listed as Germany, and it states he was an illiterate German seaman.
His wife is Sarah Jane AVANT, with an estimated bdate of 1843, born in LA.
Their children are listed as Henry and Ida Ellen. Other info also lists Mary, Josephine, Viola Rosalie (my grandmother) and Fred. I do have some info that Fred was born in 1910, making his mother 57 at the time. (Still thinking about that one)
On the 1870 Census, listed immediately after Henry Wolfe is Fred Wolfe, also listed as an illiterate German Seaman, with approx 2yr difference in age. They may have been brothers.
Any help, info, directions would be appreciated.

Wilma Etta Wolfe, the enfant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wolfe died Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the age of 1 year, 5 months and 18 days, of pneumonia fever. The child was taken sick two weeks ago and altho her condition was quite serious at first it was thought last week that the little one had passed all danger as her fever had been checked and she seemed to be rapidly recovering. Monday, however, congestion of the lungs set in again and grew steadily worse. Tuesday her lungs were congested so badly that the attending physicians made preparations for an operation but her condition had become so serious decided such would be useless and the child passed away in a few hours.
Only those who have set beside and watch their dear one breathe its last know the suffering of a parent over the loss of a little babe.
Wilma was a bright little girl, full of promise, she bore her untold sufferings bravely. She will be greatly missed from the home circle.. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe in the loss of this little daughter. The services were held at the Willowdale church Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Stevenson of Talmage. The body was laid to rest in the Prairie Mound Cemetery.

(The family lived in Willowdale Township, Dickinson County, Kansas.)

Looking for anyone knowing anything about John Wolfe born abt. 1746, married to Mary Magdalene, last name unknown. She was born abt. 1750. Children were-Jacob Wolfe Sr, married to Mary Elizabeth, Abraham married to Hannah Arritt, Mary Magdalene, married to Michael Arritt. I am searching for the ancestors of Valentine and Cynthia Ann Wolfe.

Valentine was b 2 Jun 1803, and d 1 May 1871 in Tate Co Miss. He maried Margaret Turk Wright. She was born 2 Jan 1813 in Tn and d 2 Nov 1883. They were married 30 Sep 1834 in Alabama. I am searching for the ancestors of both these folks. They had 10 children Martha, Louisliana, Francis, Lawson, Cynthia, Geroge, Richard, John, Lynthia, and Sarah. I belive all the children were born in DeSoto Miss.

Cynthia Ann Wolfe b 27 Apr 1846 DeSoto , Miss and died 30 Dec 1930 in Calahan Tx. She marriled William Jasper Price b 22 Nov 1837 DeSoto, Miss, and d 13 Jan 1879 White Co. Ark. They had children Wiliam, John, Clinton, Minie, and Benjamin. I need the ancestors of Cynthia Ann.

I suspect that the two Wolfes are from the George Wolfe/Elizabeth Flemming line but can not get any facts to that effect.

ANY information you may have will be helpful to me. Got any ideas or thoughts?

I am searching for my Aunt who left Ireland and joined the WAFs during the second world war. She married flt. lft Walter Bruce Wolfe, who was from Rhodesia. They divorced when the war ended and she went to Vancouver from Scotland where she was to set up a hair dressing salon with some friends. My mother Kathleen is her only surviving sybling, I would welcome any informatinon on this women.

Mrs. Nora McVaugh, of Manchester, and Mr. Ray R. Allgire, of Abilene, were married in Abilene Saturday afternoon at four o'clock by the Rev. R.E. Gordon, pastor of the Abilene Methodist church, the ceremony being performed at his home.
Mrs. McVaugh is a sister of Mrs. Clay Crabs of this place, with whom she made her home for some time. She has been employed in Abilene for the past several months.
Mr. Allgire, who formerly resided at Industry, is employed at the Abilene Flour Mills.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Allgire are well known in this community and their many friends extend best wishes for their happiness. They will make their home in Abilene.

(Nora Wolfe had previously been married to Thomas McVaugh. They were divorced in 1926.)

A marriage of interest to the groom's many friends in this community is that of Miss Mary Kneisel and Mr. Virgil Edward Wolfe, which was solemnized at four o'clock Tuesday afternoon, November 20th, at the Ravenswood Evangelical church in Chicago, the Rev. Alfred Meyer officiating.
The bride wore a gown of white satin fashioned with an overskirt of lace. Her veil was arranged in cap effect and held in place by a garland of tiny pink rosebuds and she carried a bouquet of white roses, lillies of the valley and asters.
The bride was attended by Mrs. C. Nodthurft as matron of honor; Miss Dorothy Lang, maid of honor; Miss Elsie Feller and Miss Kathryn Feller, bridesmaids; and Anna Schoepko as flower girl, all of whom wore gowns of pastel shades.
The groom wore a tuxedo suit and was attended by Mr. Charles Koenig as best man. Mr. Charlie Julcher and Mr. Chester Rodeen were the ushers.
Following the ceremony, a reception and dance were held at 835 West North avenue.
Virgil has been employed at a filling station in Chicago ever since going to that city three years ago. His many friends in and around Manchester extend to him and his bride best wishes for their happiness and success.
