Anders Hanson from Gothenburg to Hull, England abt 1875
I would like to kindly request a look up for my great-great grandfather, Anders Hanson, who I strongly believe sailed from Gothenburg, Sweden to Hull, England around the year 1875 and who might be listed on the Gothenburg, Sweden, Passenger List 1869-1951 with arrival at Hull, England. He gave his birthplace as Halmstad, Halland, Sweden on his U.S. citizenship application in 1890. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Re: Anders Hanson from Gothenburg to Hull, England abt 1875
Anders Hanson was born in Halmstad, Halland, Sweden about 1847 (the month I have is June). This is the date I have found on most records, although the headstone of his grave, in Corning, Steuben, New York, reads that he was born in 1844. I'm not sure, but he may have sailed on the Wilson Line ship the Rollo from Gothenburg, Sweden to Hull, England. I am not sure which ship he sailed on to America. He entered his immigration year as 1875 on the 1900 U.S. Census record. He preceded his wife and daughters to America to find work and provide a house for them to live in. They came over to join him in 1880. He married my great-great grandmother, Johanna Maria (maiden name unknown) in 1872 in Sweden. Thank you for any help you can give. It is greatly appreciated!

Before trying to find the ship you have to have more informations about the family. I found a possible family. This Anders Hansson was born in Harplinge and that is a parish north of Halmstad in Halland. When Swedes emigrated and came from smaller parish they usually told they came from a bigger one closed by and the "family history" is just a history! This is a try, let mew know if something hit you. Source: Emibas, cd

Re: Anders Hanson from Gothenburg to Hull, England abt 1875
Hej Solveig, I don't know how you did it so fast, but the records you just sent are all correct! The dates of birth are all correct for each of my ancestors and my great-great grandmother's maiden name is correct also, as I have just found out that her maiden name in English is spelled Johannson (which, as it is listed correctly in Swedish, is Johannisdotter). The only thing that is different that I can see is the listing for Anders Hansson, stating that he emigrated 5/21/1880. The information he gave on his U.S. citizenship application, was that he emigrated from Sweden in 1875, so I'm not sure about that discrepancy. All of the rest however is correct and true! I do have a record of Johanna Maria, Gerda and Anna sailing on the Wilson Line ship the Orlando on June 9, 1880 from Goteborg to Hull, but Anders name is not on the record with them. I wish to thank you very, very much for finding my ancestors' Swedish records so quickly, when I was beginning to believe I would never see these records. You are a great researcher!

You were correct about Anders moving out earlier. I looked into the original church books and there is a note saying Anders left already in 1876 without moving attest. Guess he was "signed out" when rest of his family moved 1880. At the subscription site svar.se the passenger lists are scanned and when looking through the lists for 1876 I found Anders Hansson with contract no 106 from Halmstad, age 33,going to NY. The ship was ångfartyg Rollo from Gothenburg to Hull April 14th. Solveig

Re: Anders Hanson from Gothenburg to Hull, England abt 1875
Thank you for the scanned image of Anders Hansson's contract for travel on the Rollo in 1876. My family members are very interested in knowing all they can about our Hansson family in Sweden before they emigrated to America. You have helped us find out more about them than we ever knew and now we are wondering if there might be some way to find who Anders' and Johanna's parents were and where they were from in Sweden and to go back as far as we can in our family history. Also, it would be great to know of any living Hansson relatives we might have in Sweden. As you said, 'family history is family history' and we would like to know everything about it that we possibly can. Thank you again Solveig, from all of my family, for all of the help you have given us. It is deeply appreciated by all of us. Sam
