Tractor Crossing - Federal Court Convicts 'Angel of Guadalupe'

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 12 – Mrs. Mary Rogoff, 49-year-old Russian-born woman known as the “Angel of Guadalupe” because of her care of the injured and ailing, has been found guilty in Federal court here to charges of transporting a stolen tractor from Riverside into Mexico.

Mrs. Rogoff allegedly used the tractor at her ranch at Colonia Guadalupe, Russian colony about 35 miles south of Tijuana.

ORDERED HOME
Federal Judge Jacob Weinberger fined her $750 and ordered her to return to her home in Baja California. She is a naturalized Mexican citizen.

John Silbaugh, 30, of Los Angeles, a co-defendant, pleaded guilty to transporting the tractor and a truck to Mrs. Rogoff’s ranch. The tractor was rented in Riverside and truck was rented in Los Angeles.

Judge Weinberger set Oct. 23 as date for sentencing. Similar charges against Gilbert Chester Marcon, 34, of Los Angeles were dismissed at request of the U.S. Attorney due to insufficient evidence.
