Does anyone have any information on the Edwin (or possibly Edward) Sutton family from the Manchester area in England?
Edwin Sutton was born in May 1810, and died April 1857 in Bollington Cheshire England.
He married Sarah Wilkinson in Aug 1829. They had six children: my great-great-great-grandmother Lavinia Sutton was born May 1835.
She had sisters: Ann Sutton born about 1838, Emma Sutton born about Dec 1840, Ruth Sutton born about June 1843 and brothers Lawrence born about 1834 and Edwin or Edward Albert Sutton born Jul 1845. I have seen the father & brother called both Edwin and Edward on census records and other references. The father Edwin Sutton married Hannah Bradbury or Litton about 1849 after his first wife, Sarah, died. Edwin & Hannah Sutton had one daughter, Sarah Sutton, born about 1851.
My G-G-G-Grandmother Lavinia Sutton Raines emmigrated to the United States in about 1881 with her son, John Raines, my G-G-Grandfather. They finally settled in St. Louis, Missouri. Lavinia died in Aug 1900.

It looks like Edward/Edwin's 2nd marriage in 1849 was to Hannah Litton. Hannah's parents were Gervas Litton and Sarah Hollins (IGI Marriage: 05 Dec 1802 - Norton In The Moors, Stafford, England). Gervas/Gervis was born in Cheadle, Staffordshire in 1779 (IGI Christening: 25 Jun 1779 - Cheadle, Stafford, England / Father: Gervis Litton / Mother: Jane Cooper). In 1841 Gervas is a school master in Bollington.

To get further back with Edward/Edwin Sutton it might be useful to order the marriage certificate to Hannah Litton:

Name: Edward Sutton
Year of Registration: 1849
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Ashton Under Lyne
County: Cheshire

Page: 10

The marriage certificate should give the name and profession of Edward/Edwin's father. You can order the certificate online at:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp.
It will cost 7.00 UK pounds and take a few days to arrive.
