This is a long shot, but I thought I'd try! I recently started searching my husband's family roots and am finding the Zeis family to be very hard to track! This is what I've found out so far.
My husband, Robert A. Zeis, Jr. b.1974
Parents: Robert A. Zeis, Sr. b. 1945 & Mary Jeanette Benson b. 1949
This is where it gets trick with my husband's grandfather -
Robert Sr. parents: John Russell Zeis, Sr. b. March 27, 1904 in St. Louis, MO d. October 16, 1964
Dorothy Serth b. July 1911 d. April 10, 2010 in Birth Vergennes, Illinois
John Russell Zeis, Sr. was married prior to being married to Dorothy. I found this information in the 1930's census. His first wife's name was Irene b. 1904 d. ?
Daughter: Betty b. about 1927 (She was 3 in the census.)
I do not know when John & Irene divorced, and I do not know when John and Dorothy's married. I know their first child, Jaqueline, was born in 1931. Other children of John & Dorothy are:
Jacqueline Zeis 1931 – 2003 (listed above)
John Russell Zeis, Jr. 1937 – 1982 or 83?
Karen Zeis 1944 – 2008
John Russell Zeis, Sr. parents:
Fredrick Zeis b. 1879 d. ? (born in Missouri)
Hazel Hoffman b. 1883 d. ? (born in Missouri)
My father-in-law tells me that there is a sister named Pearl, but I can't find any information on her. I found John's birth record and on Ancestery.com he is listed as Jno Zeis. That was how I knew his parent's names.
At some point something happened to Fredrick, because in the 1920s Censu I found Hazel remarried to George J. Dominick b. about 1878 & wife Hazel and step-son John R. Zeis (my father-in-law's father)
Fredrick is listed in the 1900 Census as the son of
John Zeis age 62 b. August 1837 and he was widowed. It also states that John was born in PA. His wife was born in Missouri, but I do not have a name.
Another son, Paul Zeis is also listed 22 yrs, b. July 1877 (born in Missouri).
I figured that since I can find John Zeis b. August 1837 in PA, that maybe there is some connection? Please let me know if you could be of any help.
