Do you know the first name of William Martin Heenan's grandma, and did she live in Ballynahinch or Belfast? Iam looking for descendants of Hans Martin and his wife Jennie ---., probably both born around 1810. Thanks, Doris.

Doris,

Isabella Martin is my 2nd great grandmother. She was the 2nd wife of Thomas Henry McClure. They had 4 children named Priscilla, Margaret, Samuel and Robert. Margaret was my great grandmother and she was married to Hugh Dixon. Isabella immigrated to NY in 1922 with her daughter Margaret, son-in-law Hugh and her 3 grandchildren Isabella, Eileen and Thomas. Thomas was my grandfather. On the ship manifest she listed her brother and nearest relative as H. Martin living at 23 Mountainview Street in Belfast Ireland. She lived with her son Robert McClure in the Bronx until her death on March 1, 1926. She is buried at Mt. Hope cemetery in Westchester NY. My great grandparents Hugh and Margaret and their daughter Eileen are also buried there. I have been to the cemetery and located their headstones.

I am very interested in any information you have about the Isabella's family. I have not been able to find much information on the Martin family. I have a copy of Isabella's death certificate which is my only source with her parents names listed as Hans and Margaret Martin. My great grandmother Margaret Dixon provided the information listed on the certificate. I also have a box of photos that came from Ireland (Belfast) with Margaret and Isbella. There are no names or dates on the photos so I have no way of identifying.

Thank you,

Tom Dixon

Thank you. The 23 Mountain view St address is consistent with Isabella's ship manifest listing her brother H Martin as her nearest relative. I'm confident that this is a connection. What is the source of this information?

Surnames: MARTIN
Hans (and Robert) Martin were listed in Griffith's Valuations 1863-4 for the Townland of Ballylone Big, Magheradrool, Ballynahinch. If you knew his wife's maiden name the family is likely also listed there. The Martins in Belfast can be traced through the various Directories found at lennonwylie.co.uk H. Martin for example is listed in 1907 as a Harbour Constable living at 23 Mountainview St.
