Do any of the persons searching MINICK/MINNICK in Rhea Co TN. know where they came from? I had thought PA., but I just found information on SAMUEL MINICK who bought land in Obien Co TN. and he was in N.J. So I am wondering if they came to TN from N.J. Help. Verna

Approximately when did your Minicks arrive in Rhea County? I am researching a Minick family that purchased land in Mansfield, Burlington County, NJ on December 22, 1834 and moved there. One of the children was a Samuel Mink/Minick/Minnick, and he had descendents named Samuel as well.

If your family arrived in Rhea, TN after 1834, perhaps there is a connection. Minick is a very uncommon name in NJ.

My Minick/Minnick line came to Rhea Co TN before 1830, but do not know just when before that. I didn't know there were lot's of them in N.J. The ones in Rhea Co. were PETER MINICK & SAMUEL MINICK. Possible others also. Verna

No, my posting said Minick was an uncommon name in NJ.

I'd love to know more about the NJ connection when you learn of it. I wouldn't be surprised if you find they were originally from PA, where the Minick surname is more often found. The Delaware River forms the border between NJ and PA, and is really all that separates Philadelphia from Camden, Trenton, Gloucester cities. My own Minick ancestors bounced back and forth freely across the state line. Good luck!

There is a Bailey Minnick in the 1850 Rhea Co., TN Cenus who was born in NC in abt. 1825. He and his family are also in the 1860 Census. Another Bailey Minnick (probably a grandson) is in the 1920 Census of Rhea who was a Justice of the Peace and is listed in several marriage records.

Yes, I know about BAILEY MINICK in Rhea Co TN. , and his father was probably brother of my SAMUEL MINICK, but I don't have any proof of that. Thanks for taking trouble to send to me. Verna

According to previous posts, it just seemed to me that Bailey Minick giving North Carolina as his birthplace might have been new information for the question you had asked.

Hi Verna I was so glad to see your name and new e-mail address come up. I still have info you shared back in 2000. I can't help with your question but hope you can help with mine. My gggrandfather was Samuel Minnick Minich born 6-8-1817 in Rhea County TN. I feel sure he was related to your branch but have absolutely no info to back it up. You got a reply to Melissa back in 2000 indicating you had additional info but when I tried her e-mail address the guy didn't know what I was talking about and I got no answer from mindspring where I think you were before. She indicated that Bailey was buried in Keytesville, MO. If so he is not in the city cemetery or in Mt. Pleasant as that is where my Samuel was buried. There were no others except some of my Samuel's descendants. I did find a couple of stones close by with no information except Robert Minnix and one other Minnix if anyone is interested.
Thank you so much. Sorry I'm so long winded.

Surnames: MINICK BARNETT HOPKINS COSHOW and many more
I guess I have overlooked answering your message. If so, I am sorry. Was gone for 3 weeks and then it takes another week to catch up. My SAMUEL MINICK/MINNICK was m. to ELIZABETH BARNETT (have proof). and had a son SAMUEL bn abt 1819. b. date is based on Court records as all of the children of SAMUEL/ELIZABETH were left orphans as f. d. in 1831. So don't have exact b. dates. This SAMUEL m. SUSAN HENRY and d. 1908 Carroll Co AK. There is some wrong information out there on this MINICK/MINNICK so be careful. I am not sure about the death date or place for this SAMUEL MINICK/MINNICK as I don't have proof as yet. BAILY MINICK I haven't searched, but there are lots of people out there that have, as I have seen their queries and answers on the Roots lists. Sorry I can't help you more. Verna
