okay...the name could have originally been spelled differently. Or not. You should consider that in any genealogical research.

Missouri has a great resource for death certs. For those post-1910, here's the link:

http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/

Be sure to search on SalinE (not SalinA). It appears Saline J Harris Saline J. Harris died June 04, 1933 in Jackson County. No info on mom, but it looks like her dad's name was "Hardin Johnston".

Do a search at the above URL and you can download a copy of the actual death cert.

You are not wrong -- my husband has a "Johnston" line and it's a coin toss on whether the "t" makes it in there.

When I first started on my research 10 yrs ago I had a very hard time..until I found out my last name actually started out Read and that part of the family kept that spelling but most went to REED. In fact there is an indication that it may have even been Reese or Reece or some version there of.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it

Connie thanks for your help. Looks like I might be looking for Johnson's as well. We will see. I asked my friend and he was quite sure it was Johnston not Johnson.
