I don't think I was properly effusive in my previous message. You gave me quite a bit of new information. Thanks so much for the obituary.

Adam Stropes and his son, J. L. Stropes served in the Spanish American War, J.L. being quite young, was an aide. Adam also fought in the war of 1812 with Andrew Jackson, and was wounded in a battle called "Horseshoe Creek". He was given land in Greene Co. Ind as payment for his services and was one of the earliest settlers of that county.

I would appreciate learning the specific data, including a source to confirm the facts, of Adam Stropes' land received for military service.

Thanks.

I am a descendent of Adam Stropes, and really appreciate the information you posted on this board. It explains how the family came to Greene County, Indiana. Do you know his father and mother's names or the parents of Penelope Lockwood? That is as far back as I can find on the Stropes line. Thank you for any information you may have.

I did a search for Mexican War Pensions on both these names. There is not one for Adam. However, there is one for Jeremiah L. Stropes. His widow Patheny D., IC-435538 file #4887 filed 14 Jul 1887 in Indiana, WC-3020 file #29987 filed in Indiana, no date given, Mex War SO-15128, for service in Co H of 2nd IN Vols as a Private.

Good luck!
