I would be grateful if anyone can tell me the best way of getting official records from Fiji. I would like a copy of the death certificate of my great grandfather who died in Fiji around 1912. I haven't had a response to my general inquiry to the e-mail address INFO@FIJI.GOV.FJ. I have also written to the Family History Centre in Suva, by 'snail-mail' and I am still waiting for a response from them, although that was not long ago.

Iam trying to get my Grandmothers birth certificate, Cissie Brown nee Chapman. I rang the Registrars Office in Suva. They told me to send the name of the person, their parents name, DOB, place of birth and they would do a search . The certificate would be $2.50 Fijian.
Maybe this might help your search.

Thank you very much Bernie : I will try that, although in my case it may be a bit more difficult as I want a death certificate, and am not sure of the exact date. However $2.50 is so cheap that I don't mind paying them a bit more if it requires more searching!

Did you go through one of the government departments, or through the Mormon Church? I recently received a reply to a letter I wrote to the Mormon Church Family History Centre in Suva, wanting more information than I originally gave them, so I am hoping that that line of inquiry might be fruitful! However, I would be very interested in knowing how you met with success.

I have obtained duplicates of all my family certificates from early 1880s from the LDS films. Whereas copies you get from the Registrar in Suva are transcribed the LDS films are films of the original certificates. If you go to the LDS site and bring up the Library site you will get a complete list of every year filmed for BDMs. I even found the orginal of my marriage certificate from 1966.If you need any further information I can get the film numbers if you supply the years you want.
