Hi, cousin, my name is Barbara (Bromagem)Molen. I am a desendant of James's brother Hyram both were the sons of Elias Bromagem. Elias's father was also named Elias who fought in the Revolutionary War and the war of 1812. Old Elias was from Monongahila County Virginia. He received a land grant in Kentucky for his military service. He went there late 1700's and in 1803 settled and later died in Greene County, Ohio in 1828. His son Elias went to Darke Co. Ohio about 1830 according to land patent near Hollansburg, Ohio. He then abt. 1850 went to Portland, Indiana. He was a pharmacist or drugist. He bought a bldg there abt 1853. His son James M. Bromagem was one of the first newspaper printers there. Old Elias was shot by a man he had had a dispute over a horse sale and his son William shot and killed the man. Old Elias settled at Hill Grove, Ohio and is buried there. James M. Bromagem started a newspaper the Portland Journal in Portland, then went to De Kalb Ind another paper there and then Centerville, Ind he and his brother John had a newspaper there. He also was a printer in the Civil War and suffered terribly as a POW at Anderson Prison. He died in an asylum in Washington D.C. possibly of TB.
