Bob, do you happen to know if the Dwelling numbers were also duplicated as well as the Family numbers? I suggested to Ancestry that they could add the Dwelling number to the Family number for those family numbers that are duplicated and that would create two seperate Household Member lists for the index. Then they could also index the names the same as they did the other years instead of alphabetically. I'm obviously not as good as you at describing things because the customer help person thought I was suggesting they add numbers to the original census! In my second attempt at explaining, I 'borrowed' some of your wording to make things more clear but I don't know if it helped. I just received this reply:
