Kentucky Marriage records

I was hoping someone would know the meaning of the initials after some (witnesses?) on the marriage records:

Marriage Records Fayette County, Kentucky Volume II 1810-14.

example:

Name: James Perkins
Spouse: Lydia Moffett
Marriage Date: 16 Jan 1810
Henry Poague, B.; Susannah Moffett, M.

I am guessing that M stands for mother and B stands for brother. I notice when looking through the various records, some say "M of groom," etc., but there are also designations that aren't as obvious to me. Like W (and it's not wife). And some of the "B" designations have different last names. Enough that I think it might sometimes be a brother-in-law or have some other meaning.

If there is a place that explains these designations, please let me know. Or if you are aware of what they mean. Or just want to give some educated guesses to throw in with mine!

Thank you.

1920 Census Pages Out of Order Resulting in Incorrect Relationships

While I was saving all of the hints for some of my relatives, I came across a mistake on the site for the 1920 census. Two pages are reversed in the scans, resulting in my great-grandparent's being linked to the wrong children, and my grandfather being linked to the wrong parents. The sheet numbering at the top was done in a confusing way, but the correct order is obvious when you look at the sequential house-visit numbers, and with that you can reconnect all of the correct parties.

I emailed the help system about it, and after about 2 weeks got sort of a stock answer that they assume my issue had been resolved unless I replied within 2 days, and that had a link to the same page where I initially sent my email, so I thought I'd give up.

I don't know if I have a question here, or if I'm just complaining. :) But, has anyone else seen something like this? Or am I just "lucky?" If you've seen it, how did you alert ancestry.com about it? I've found that it's a pretty specific problem, compared to the options given to report a problem. When I did report it, I followed their instructions on what information to give, but I didn't get a resolution. My next plan was to call them on the phone, or is that a bad idea (anyone tried that?)?

Thanks!
Re: Errors in State of Tennessee marriage records.

I am seeing numerous errors within the data base just posted-State of Tennessee marriage records. While the collection is really great, the persons responsible for placing the various certificates within the proper years obviously cannot read dates. Many of the really early dates-those prior to 1830 in Madison County-are actually from 1870 through 1892. Some are placed in 1830 but when at the actual certificate is viewed, it is quite apparent that the date is 1870 or 1880. Some placed as 1832 are 1882 and 1892. If it was just one, I would say one mistake was made and not a big deal at all, but all together, there are a number of placement mistakes.

Missing record - Sarah McLumpkin

About a year ago, I found the name "Sarah McLumpkin" in one of your databases. I think it was one of the Alabama record collections. Well, I came back to try to print it out a few weeks later, but it was gone. And I don't know where it went. Would anyone over at Ancestry.com help me get that record back? Thank you.

New York immigrant savings bank?

I was just at local library looking on the Ancestry, com site. I came across the N.Y. immigrant savings account. Is anyone familiar with this? I'm wondering what area in N.Y. this immigrant savings account covered. It had a lot of info. I was looking for my GG Grandfather Mathew Hogan-Onondaga. There was one in there but I don't know if he was mine. They gave his place of birth in Ireland even the parish and parents names, occupation and address but I couldn't read the address and even if I could I wouldn't be familiar with it. Does anyone on this list know anything about this site???/Jewel

Genealogy.com databases?

Does anyone know (before I call Ancestry) what Genealogy.com databases are already available on Ancestry.com? Or, if any are planned to be made available (and roughly when)?

I'm asking because I was recently made aware of a Genealogy.com record that connected a link for me that I've been struggling with for a while now using just Ancestry, so it would be a great help. This one was specifically from their basic/CD collection.

Suggestion: alphabetize the Birth, Marriage, Death records list!

When I browse the Birth, Marriage, & Death Records, the databases are listed in a scroll box called "Search Individual Birth, Marriage, & Death Collections." I wish instead of being alphabetized by title, these databases would be alphabetized by geography. Most of my research focuses on Pennsylvania, and I want to be able to go straight to the Pennsylvania records, instead of having to scroll through the whole list to see what's available for my state.

It would be helpful if an entry like

"Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, 1765-1858: Jordan Reformed Congregation"

would be reworded to something like

"USA/PA/Lehigh/Jordan Reformed Congregation, 1765-1858"

That way all of a country's, state's, and county's listings would be grouped together. As more and more databases are added, this will be especially important.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Diane - can you check something for me? As I recall, when I had the US Records Collection - the Immigration Collection was a separate subscription and I could not access immigration records with my US Records subscription. Is that how you recall it too? If so - maybe that is why these new records, which I guess they would call immigration records, aren't available....but again, I may be remembering the limits of the US Records collection incorrectly. Or have you been able to get other immigration records all along up until now?

New Database - WW II "Old Man's" Draft Registration Cards

FYI - ancestry.com has posted WW II Draft Registration Cards for men born between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897. I found my grandfather and a number of others in it.

When you type in Place of Birth - Lithuania, it results in 22,668 names. Unfortunately, it currently only contains results for 14 states (incomplete records for New Jersey/New York). Some cards have the actual place of birth (though usually spelled incorrectly) versus just "Lithuania".

See below for more information:

The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered.

This database is an indexed collection of the draft cards from the Fourth Registration, the only registration currently available to the public (the other registrations are not available due to privacy laws). The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military.

Information available on the draft cards includes:
•	Name of registrant
•	Age
•	Birth date
•	Birthplace
•	Residence
•	Employer information
•	Name and address of person who would always know the registrants whereabouts
•	Physical description of registrant (race, height, weight, eye and hair colors, complexion)
Additional information such as mailing address (if different from residence address), serial number, order number, and board registration information may also be available.
Which states are currently available in this database?

This database currently contains draft cards for the following states:
•	Arkansas
•	Connecticut
•	Delaware
•	Indiana
•	Maryland
•	New Hampshire
•	New Jersey*New York*
•	Pennsylvania
•	Puerto Rico
•	Rhode Island
•	Vermont
•	Virginia
•	West Virginia
*The collection of records for these states in this database is incomplete. Therefore, it is possible that an ancestor who fits the age requirement of this registration and is from one of these states, will not currently be found in this database.
Records for additional states will be added to this database as Ancestry can acquire them.

Tom

Researching Ammutie(sp?)/Amulis(?), Baltramonaitis, Darlunas/Derliunas, Draugelis, Geguz^is, Grauza, Ilgunas, Karalius, Kliokys/Klokis, Mic^iunas, Moc^kus, Molius^is, Noreika, Pac^esa, Paulauskas, Prasauskas, Puskorius, Sadauskas, Senkus, S^iugz^da/Z^iugz^da, Steponaitis, Volungevic^ius

Hi
There is a group of Univ. of Montana students
working on getting pardons for men who
were mislabeled seditionists . The only way to trace them and origins are though the draft cards. They are mixed up. Look at Matt Johnson born Sep 14, 1885 in Montana
and it reads instead John Alfred Johnson born april 9, 1898
and if you look up John Alfred Johnson's his reads James Johnson instead. I tried calling Ancestry but there is no one available answering the phones today.
The other line is for orders only.
This University group is fast closing in on it's due date for this project.
Can these card be fixed soon?
Alicia

Is anyone else, with a subscription to the US Records Collection, being denied access to certain images? For me personally, I cannot access the ones in the NC marriage collection. I can see the index results and the record abstract, but when I click the link to see the corresponding image, I am told to upgrade. Since I already have a subscription to this record set, I am feeling rather irked by this message. I submitted a support ticket, but I haven't received a reply, other than a standard, automated one of course. So, anyone? Or is it just my misfortune?

What's happening? I've been able to access the WWI registration cards earlier today but now I am getting an error message. Strange this is that one correspondent sent me this FREE link and it works but my paid subscription link does not. I can't get to the records from the main Ancestry site.

Click here: Ancestry.com - World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918

This is free this weekend.
It looks like Ancestry has finished putting up the cards for NY State. I think the only place missing is the City of Albany - and it doesn't even look like they plan on putting it up.

Does anyone have any idea if the cards for the City of Albany, NY will ever be put up? I will stop wasting my time looking if its just never going to happen.
I attempted to research the data base, North Carolina Deaths, 1979-82, today using its search function. I put in the name of the person I was researching but received no result. I tried an even broader search with no result. I searched for the last name "Smith" with no result. I searched for the first name "John" with no result. The index does not appear to function. Is there any indication when this will be fixed?

Revolutionary War Service Records, 1775-83

The database labeled "Revolutionary War Service Records, 1775-83" has a problem causing hardship to research.

Titles (or more often suffix abbreviations) such as Sn., Snr. [senior] and Jn., Jnr. [junior], etc. were put into the Surname field after the surname (instead of in the given name field in parens.)

When searching for surnames either using Soundex or Ranked search (which we must do because of the terrible Rev War era spelling,) we get HUGE results lists that are treating these abbreviations as surnames. Because of the results limit I can never page to where the results would be helpful.

This database needs to be corrected, with the Jr / Sr abbrevs either in their own field, or put into the given name field in parenthesis after the given name, but definately NOT in the Surname field.

This is quite EASILY done with Excel, using the string functions to strip the abbrevs from one field and concatenate them onto the end of another field.

* I hope this is where we ask for corrections or enhancments to the website or databases. Could not find a suggestion link anywhere.

Ancestry obviously does not want complaints about this database on a board frequented by many people. The US Records Collection Board has a FEW messages and I wonder how many subscribers even know it exists. It is an "exile" board.

World War 1 Draft Registration Cards reply to Jack O'Connor

YESSSSSSS! I've e-mailed them several times about this and I get a nonchalant response in the likes of "We'll fix it when we have time." To me that says "Screw you, we have other things to do."
I subscribed to the U.S. Records Collections about six months ago primarily to have access to this particular database, and I've been screwed since. All the St. Lawrence county, New York WW1 files are corrupt, and ancestry won't repair this.
I have about 10 relatives and 1 ancestor whose military backgrounds I would like to research.
It's ridiculous.
What ticks me off about this is that prior to my subscribing to the U.S. Records Collections I did a search for my grandfather. His name popped up in the WW1 database. I clicked on his name and got the "Sorry, you need to subscribe" comment. So I subscribed only to find out that all the St. Lawrence county, New York WW1 files were corrupt and have been since. Prior to one subscribing to this collection, ancestry portrays all of New York state as being available in the WW1 database. After one subscribes to this collection, one discovers that the St. Lawrence county, New York WW1 registration database files are corrupt, reports this malfunction to ancestry, and they get the run-around.
I feel that this is a very misleading and blatant tactic, by ancestry.com in an attempt to gain as many subscribers as possible, whether or not they could provide the services they advertise.
I think that a new topic in "Message Boards" should be recommended, titled "Class Action Against Ancestry.com". I know there's a lot of upset people out there. I'm getting fed up with this crap.
ANCESTRY. COM, STOP MOVING MY POSTS TO THE U.S. RECORDS COLLECTION BOARD. IF I WANTED IT POSTED TO THAT BOARD THEN I WOULD HAVE POSTED TO THAT BOARD! THIS IS THE BOARD I POSTED TO SO IT SHOULD STAY HERE!

Ancestry just posted "NYC Marriages 1600s - 1800s" online February 4th as part of the US Records Collection. This database appears to be the same as the old Family Archives - Broderbund CD # 239 from 1998.This may be useful for some, and convenient one-stop-shopping for others. Meanwhile, many of us are still waiting for new information based on completion of projects that were promised by Ancestry and not delivered.

Beverly G.
Deleted WW 1 Draft Card Board Message

Earlier today, someone posted a message complaining that he had subscribed to Ancestry in order to research these cards and found that the St. Lawrence County, NY, cards were corrupted. He was looking for a Glenn Wilson in the County and had complained months earlier to Ancestry. This message was deleted and I am curious as to the reason. I have been requesting Ancestry to "fix" Dade County in Fl for a few years with no response. Does the Board Administrator now delete messages that contain complaints?

World War I Draft Registration Cards

I subscribed to Ancestry's Records Collection for access to this database. I have several family members that registered for WWI. Their names were listed in ancestry's index. But, after subscribing I discovered that the images are all corrupt! These images are for St. Lawrence county, New York. I e-mailed ancestry about this and their response was "we'll fix it when we have time." That was seven months ago!
Just so you can see what I'm referring to, do a search for Glenn Wilson from New York in this database. His name comes up, click on it (from St. Lawrence county), then click on view image. It's corrupt as is every image from this county.
This is very annoying.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, IOWA BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY

I attempted to use the new database recently added and advertised in Ancestry Daily News, 30 January 2004, "WASHINGTON COUNTY, IOWA BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY". I used the link provided in the newsletter
http://www.ancestry.com/rd/prodredir.asp?sourceid=4717&k...
which brings up a form to enter search parameters. I entered a surname "claypool" and pressed the search button. I was then presented with a "rights refused" message. This page recognized who I am, and reiterated the database I was trying to access, but gives an irrelevant error message: "To access these matches for Claypool in Washington County, Iowa Biographical Dictionary, you need to sign up for the U.K. & Ireland Records Collection." The last time I checked my atlas, the state of Iowa was still in the United States. What does the UK & Ireland Records Collection have to do with this?
