PHOTO: Elmira F. Metcalf PIERCE, wife of Wm G, mother of Arthur, taken in Providence, Rhode Island 1880-1910

I bought this beautiful cabinet card photo identified as Elmira F. Pierce and Willie B. Pierce
in St. Joseph, MO. It was taken by L.M. Jackson of Providence, Rhode Island between
1880-1910, I believe.

I found an Almira F. Metcalf married William G. Pierce in
Rhode Island on 11 June 1857.

I found Wm G. Pierce, a merchant, with his wife Almira
in the 1870 Census for Providence, RI.

They have one son, Arthur, born 5 Aug 1860.

Perhaps Willie B. Pierce is Almira’s grandson?

I found Almira F. Pierce’s death record as 30 Nov 1928 at age 93.

Please contact me if you have an interest in this over 100 year old photo.

Kathy@FamilyWeSearch.com

Family Heirlooms. Who owns them by law?

My great great grandmother was a famous poacher in the Hertfordshire area who died in 1930 and is still talked about in the area to this day.

When she died she had no family around to care for her, they had all left the area. She knew her way around the bible very well and owned a tattered copy which was left in her cottage when she died.

This bible is now kept in Hertford Museum. They claim to have been given title to it by someone in 1932. Personally i think i should have it as it belonged to my great great grandmother.

Does anyone know where i stand on this?

3 photos of young Marguerite F. Baightel

I purchased 3 photos of a young girl with Marguerite Baightel written on the back of all three. I believe she was the daughter of Tad A Baightel and Mary E or C Baightel. Tad was born in OH in Dec 1864 and Mary was born in NY in Mar 1870. They had another daughter named Vesta or Vester who was born in May 1896. Tad died 13 Oct 1918 in Cuyahoga, OH In the 1900 census, the family was living in Collinwood Township, Cuyahoga Co, OH and in 1910 they were in Cleveland Ward, Cuyahoga Co, OH.The young lady appears to be about 6-8 in the pics. If this is your family, please contact me at spowell40@ntelos.net. I want the purchase price which was 10 dollars to return them to her proper family.

Can anyone help place these people in vintage photos in India?

I have a batch of old lantern slides (3.25" square glass positive photographs) that relate to India, with some of named people. They were in a very large batch that I bought (aka rescued!) at auction and I would estimate date from around 1900. I am trying to see if I can place them, and hopefully find some descendents who will no doubt love to see them.

The full set can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/whatsthatpicture/sets/721576085... and the particular names are:
Thomas de Souza
Geo Blair
Morris (unknown if this is a first name or surname on this one)
Frank Clark
Wildman
Shipman, Illinois
Dec 25, 1872
Presentd by her Mother
Next page is written in pencil: Presented to my son Al & Mary his wife by his Mother.

I can take pictures of the Bible, but I can not give the Bible up. It was my mother-in-laws, but we are not certain it was given to her by a blood relative or not. I'm wiling to share pictures of it and that's all.
Hopefully that's understandable.

Photo of School Teacher, OWEN Surname, K.C. Location Also Oklahoma

I recently obtained a photo of a lady, who is identified as Lala (Lela,Lola?) OWEN. Also written on it is: One of my early teachers.

It appears to have been taken in K.C. (Kansas City?) However, the woman who had them all of these years, was born and grew up in Oklahoma. So it's possible the photo was taken in Kansas City but was given to the student in Oklahoma. In the 1910 census the student lived in Wittich Township in Franklin County, Oklahoma. She was 8 years old at the time the census was taken.

I'd like to locate family to send this to. For details, please contact me at: digginroots@hotmail.com

Kathy
As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them.

I recently obtained one of a couple, both dressed (probably) in black. It's a sepia tone (the browns) photo so it's hard to tell for sure. He's wearing a tux style suit with a white bow tie. She's dressed in a long gown, with Victorian puffy shoulder/sleeves and has an oh so narrow waist! She's holding his arm as if he's escorting her. Someone wrote Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Mooney along the bottom of the photo. It was taken in Portsmouth, OH. My guess, late 1800s.

If you'd like to obtain this, please contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com

Kathy

Found in an antique store near Zanesville Ohio. An old CDV photo by E V Coe Coshocton. Written on the back:

"Mary Leighninger was born Aug 20 1796. Age 83 years".

Could this be the Mary Wolf who married George Leighninger?

A while ago I bought a used copy of FTM at a garage sale. Today when I looked at the package I found the original owner (whom I suspect is deceased) left a folder of notes and research material regarding these surnames, among others. I most likely couldn't identify the people I bought the package from, and it's likely that they had no interest in genealogy or they would probably have not been so happy to have someone buy everything for $1.

I have no connection to these surnames, but also no desire to toss out someone's work. If there's anyone there who has a connection, I'd be happy to mail it to you.

Rescued Photo, PIERCE Surname, Sacramento, California Location

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them. I obtained one from an auction, of a little girl. Her hair is curled in pipe curles down the front of her shoulders and her hair is brown. She's about 5 years old and identified as Helen Whitney PIERCE. I don't know if WHITNEY is her maiden name, or her given middle name. I will post this also on the WHITNEY message board.

The photo was taken in Sacramento, California. It appears to be late 1800s, early 1900s. It's a sepia (the browns) tone photo.

I'd like to locate family to send this to. If you'd like to obtain it, contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com

Kathy

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification and attempt to locate family to send them to.

I rescued a photo of two ladies, taken either late 1800's-early 1900's. It was taken by George Von Blon of Cooperstown, ND. One is identified as Laura Pierce and the other as Aunt Ella.

I hope to find family members who would be interested in having this treasure. Laura has beautiful dark hair and eyes-very striking. Aunt Ella's hair is dark, but she appears to have light (blue or green) eyes.

I found recently at a fleamarket a very large family bible of the Detmar family. It starts with a recorded birth of Catherine Izabeller Detmar born 8th March 1778. It also gives a time but it is hard to read. It then goes on to say she died of Small Pox on 10th July 1779. It records others too up till about 1820s. They are from Middlesex London. I got this as I am a keen genealogist and would like to reunite it with its family. (I would love to find one of mine)
If anyone is interested please contact pat at patmrshll@aol.com...... I do not wish to make any profit and would only ask what I paid and postage. It is a very large bible though so I am not sure how much it would cost.
I am searching for the Harris Family Bible. My Harris family are from originally Lanarkshire, Scotland and then later from the West Lothian, Scotland area. The bible was amongst my grandparents household goods which were sold to a second hand dealer in Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland about 1954. Names mentioned in the bible are Harris and Arthur. Has anyone any information on the whereabouts of this family bible?

Agnes MacDonald (nee Harris)

I'm hoping that someone will locate my husband's family bible. William ROGER died in Telluride, Colorado in 1940, and his wife Maria Christina SENA passed away in Durango, Colorado in 1941. According to Chris's Uncle Don, who was about 13 at the time, he gave the Roger family bible to a Mrs. WHITE in Telluride for safekeeping, and was unable to return to retrieve it for many years.

Names in the bible would be William ROGER, born in Lonmay, Scotland in 1866, and it would probably list a previous marriage to a Cora Isbell CANFIELD.

Hello,
I have old photos of different families. I have collected these for my art projects. I would like to see if I have photos that belong to a family out there, first. I know I would love to find photos of my family members, so I hope there are people out there who are looking.
Email me and let me know if maybe these long lost photos belong to your family. Some photos have cities on them, and first names or initails. Also some have the studio where they may have been taken.
I will not use them for a few days in hopes of finding family members.
Most of these photos are cabinet cards so I would think they are from the late 1800s.
The names I have mentioned are written on the backs of the photos. I hope to here from someone soon.
Thanks
My father dug up a small silver object a few years ago and I'd love anyones ideas on what it may be. Ive dated it to 1889 and assayed in London from the hallmark. Its 7cm long and a tapered slightly flattened conical shape. Its narrow end has a small ring so it was designed to be hung from somthing. The other end flips open to allow access inside. On the top of the lid is engraved a swan like bird with wings sticking up and a fierce almost serpent head! Any ideas?

I have a set of wedding goblets that my father acquired at an antique auction.
There are two - one with the name Lula Mae and the date of 11-7-32 - the othe r has the name Lemuel and the date 11-7-32. My assumption is that they are wedding goblets. I have searched through every marriage record outlet I can find - to no avail. I've also search death records - birth records and the like. It's a bit tough without a last name!
If anyone has any information with regards to these names or the date - please let me know. I'd really like to track down any ancestor/s and get these goblets into the hands of a family member. Thank you!
Engagement Ring

I have been researching the genealogy of an engagement ring that was given by a family friend--Cecilia "Cecil" Read Powell--to my grandmother's aunt--Anna "Tanna" Bushnell Read. My grandmother gave it to my mother and my mother gave it to me. It has an inscription of initials and a date inside the band and it took me a while but I believe I have found the couple belonging to the initials. Now I am curious to see if I can find any living descendants of their relatives. It appears that those most closely involved with the ring have no direct living descendants.

Here are the names I am researching:

Annie Rue Read (to whom the ring was given on 4 Sept. 1872)
born: Sept. 1850, Pennsylvania [1900 census]
married: October 1872 [Family Search]
died: sometime after 1930, possibly in Atlantic City, NJ. [1930 census]
parents: Joseph Jones Read and Cecilia Rue (aka Cecile Leroux) [Newby Family Genealogy]
siblings: Mary, John R., Cecilia, Emily, Katherine Whitney, Joseph F.B.

William Bond Knowles (who gave her the ring)
born: 20 Feb. 1848, Philadelphia, PA [The Baptist Encyclopedia by William Cathcart 1881]
died: 22 Sept. 1875, Philadelphia, PA [The Baptist Encyclopedia]
parents: Deacon Levi Knowles and Elizabeth Adeline Crosky [The Baptist Encyclopedia, censuses]
siblings: Mary, Brevet Brigadier General Oliver Blachly, Fanny, Elizabeth

Cecilia "Celia" R. Knowles
born: 9 Apr. 1874, Philadelphia, PA.
married: before 1900 [1900 census]
died: between 1910 and 1920, apparently childless [censuses]
parents: Annie Rue Read and William Bond Knowles
husband: Francis L. Buck [1910 census]

Cecilia "Cecil" Read Powell (missionary to Japan)
born: 27 June 1892, Larchmont, WA.
never married
died: 5 Jun 1953
parents: Katherine Whitney Read and Edward B. Powell
siblings: Annie T. (army nurse) and Mary B. (deaconess)

I have two photos, of children. One is identified as Velma Eryin Fish. It was taken in Woodsville, NH. She's a baby-probably 6-12 months old, seated on a wicker type chair on a pillow.

The second photo is of two boys, who are identified as Burnes & Robert Fish. Burnes is 4 years old and blond and Robert is 6 years old. They're dressed in matching outfits-knickers w/ jackets and large bow ties. Long socks and tall high top boots. This photo was taken in Lisbon, NH.

I'd like to locate family to connect these to.
I have an original studio photograph of “Ella Franklin Fell, mother of Grace and Delos Fell”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1910, and she looks to be about 65-70 years old.

In the 1900 census for Rockford (Winnebago Co.) IL, I found Delos Fell (born Aug 1883), Grace Fell (Oct 1886), and their parents Thomas and Elne. Elne was born May 1846.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Elne/Ella/Elenora Fell.

I found some family Bibles given to a Mrs. Owen Lair from Newton, Iowa dated October 1961. Also one inscribed to either Dove or Dave from a Lee R Giddings from Pleasant View Baptist Church. I have no idea where this church is located. Another Bible is to Miss Helen Lair from M/M Don Hesson in July of 1957. Then another Bible to Helen Meredith from her husband Dennis W Meredith on her birthday 2 april 1960. I am assuming the former Helen Lair is/was Mrs Dennis Meredith.
If you are interested in having these Bibles, please let me know. I'll be happy to send them for just the price of postage.
Casey

I recently purchased about 30 old photographs on ebay and most are marked from Chehalis, Washington, and Oregon. The three that are written on the back are cabinet cards with the names, Lillian and Lucy Seely, Clarence Seely, and the last one reads, "A Merry Christmas to Robert and Alta From Rene and Katie" a little hard to read, it's wrote in pencil. If anyone had a connection with this family you are more than happy to have these wonderful old photographs. Hope there is a connection.
Angie

CROOKS Family Bible - Glasgow....

I have a Bible which belonged to a Crooks Family of Glasgow .
The Bible contains Birth Marriages and Death information from mid 1800s untill approx to mid 1900s....
It is a large well used Pulpit Bible containing even a lock of hair and some small sundry papers which may mean something to the Family Historian....
I have had the Bible over twenty years (originally hoping to trace the family) I never did get around to doing this untill a few years back....
I know the father Archibald Crooks was born in Edinburgh and moved to Glasgow (I have had contact with a very distant relation.)...
This relation feels I should continue with my search for a closer relative in order to send the Bible 'Home'
I am not looking for any payment for this treasure just the satisfaction of finishing a task and uniting some family with their own Family History written in love etc....
Many names are connected to this family of Crooks
I would welcome any interest whatsoever in it.....
Unfortunatly I confess I have been asked to send it to various researchers who could or would not satisfy my need for facts relating to this Crooks family before I let it go.
It is a valuable peice of research....
Archibald Crooks Married Agnes Gowans.....
First names in the Bible.....
Please email me privatly as well as onlist
jeansmith3012@hotmail.com
