I dont think this is my James on the 1916 census, he did have a brother William but he died as an infant.
I did have some luck today and found him coming home for a visit in May 1947. It looks although he was living in Halifax and was a janitor. James had a middle name of Dryden
I also forgot that there was another brother who also went out to Canada.
John Watson Coutts born August 1897 in Angus. Sailed on vessel Cassandra in 1920 with his brothers George and David they evenutally returned to Scotland but John stayed.
