John Taylor was one of the first settlers in Belleville. He is listed in the UEL Registry. He is recorded in numerous publications including: City of Belleville History, Historic Hastings, History of the Settlement of Upper Canada. His genealogy is not recorded in Pioneer Life on the Bay of Quinte. In the History of Upper Canada there are a few pages dedicated to him. (pgs 122-125) These pages describe his brothers, Neil and Daniel, who were executed as spies in the revolutionary war. They also indicate that Sheriff George Taylor was the son of John. They also indicate that John returned to Kinderhook NY to bring his mother back to Thurlow. John married the daughter of a UEL by the name of Russel. John was 14 years old when the war broke out. That would put his birth date around 1762. His son, Sheriff George Taylor, is listed in the Lowell directory for Hastings in the year 1871 as sheriff. George Taylor is recorded as being born around 1915 and his death is recorded in 1889 in Hastings. Pioneer Life records his daughter as Mary Ann who married Jacob Cronk UEL. Mary Ann Taylor may have been born in the 1790's. If John was born in 1762 and his son George was born in 1815 John would have been around 55 years old at that time. Does anyone know any more of his this man??? Does any one know who Sheriff George Taylor was married to or his offspring?? Any help will be appreciated
