FAIRHAVEN, MA - Mary S. Mello, affectionately known as Auntie Mary, 95, of Fairhaven, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at The Royal of Fairhaven. She was the wife of the late Manuel R. Mello.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Francisco and Maria (Carvalho) Machado, she was raised in New Bedford and has resided in Fairhaven since 1954.
Mrs. Mello loved babies and enjoyed her work as a nanny. She was a wonderful cook, baker and craft maker who loved birds, flowers and travelling, especially on cruises. She was loved by many people and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her nephew and godson, Richard Machado of New Bedford; her beloved cousin, Dorothea Machado of Fairhaven; and several nephews, nieces and godchildren.
She was the sister of the late Frank Souza, Georgina Rebello and Gil Machado.
Her funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at 10am in St. Joseph's Church, 17 Spring St., Fairhaven. Burial will be in River-Side Cemetery.
Arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven.
